  • While traveling down south, i needed to make my way from Gatlinburg, Tn to North Carolina. In between those two areas is a steep, twisty road that goes up and over the Smoky Mountains. Being from Pennsylvania, we typically dont have many roads like that here. So i thought i'd share my ride up to the top and show you some of the most breathtaking views you will ever see. Enjoy

Hi have a question if you don't mind . We are going to be driving from IL to Myrtle Beach. Is there another way to get there beside taking this road through the mountains? Flying is not an option either. After watching this video looks Amazing but to many turns and twist for my liking. Is this road scarey then the Needles Highway in SD? Thank you 😊

Love this drive. Another drive that has amazing views is the Foothills Parkway. The Tail of the Dragon is more winding, sharp curves, very popular with motorcycles and sports cars. I think the Dragon has over 300 curves in 11 miles.

I left Gatlinburg one day in late November driving over to Cherokee, NC in my BMW Roadster. It was 50 degrees and sunshine in Gatlinburg. Somewhere around 3500 ft. altitude we started seeing snow on the ground. We rounded a curve at about 4500 ft. altitude and snow and ice was covering the road. At 5000 ft. it was a white out, the road was impassable and my traction control was going crazy! I turned and came back down to Gatlinburg. When we got just about to the Welcome Center there was a Ranger closing the road!!

Beautiful views. My dad used to take us there when we were real little. We'd leave Friday and drive all night and wake up with the sun coming up over the mountains and the tops completely cover with clouds. It was like looking down into a sea of clouds. So beautiful. He would always drive as far up Clingmans Dome as far as he could and park just for that view.

Beautiful work, though I'd like to say that the view is even better when there has been rain / fog in the area. I'll never forget travelling through there as a kid in the 1980's, and there would be fog. You wouldn't be able to see very far and that intensified everything. BTW anyone else remember the Cherokee Indian reservation / attraction that was in that area in the 1980's? Are they still there?

I love when I see someone from out of state pull up at a trailhead. I'm usually strapping a pack to myself and getting my gear squared away. They'll say "Hey, you look like you know what you're doing! Do you know where this waterfall is?", while they point at a map. I think I was on that road just a few months ago in April, wanted to go to Clingmans Dome on our way out of Gatlinburg (heading back to TX). The weather didn't cooperate. What was a drizzly day in Gatlinburg, was a gale force, raining sideways, socked in with clouds day at the top. I could barely see two car lengths ahead. I stopped at the peak, but the weather was showing no signs of clearing, so I pressed on to get down out of the weather. With that behind us, the rest of the road was epic and beautiful.

I have driven this scenic road many, many times. I love it. I do agree the slow pokes can be annoying.😤 But between Pigeon Forge TN and Cherokee NC it is well worth it. Thanks again JP for the memories.❤️

That stone type stage is also where President Franklin Roosevelt gave a speech to dedicate the National Park!

Planning a week in October and November. Born and raised in south Mississippi and it will forever be my home . But East Tennessee is my heart.

You are in beautiful country. I use to live near there and I miss it. A lot of stops for overlooks. There are natural springs through that drive that many people stop and fill up a few gallon jugs. Living water. I have driven the Blue Ridge Mts in Virginia and I was in the clouds. Gods country.

Wow, that opening shot, priceless. The downhill was as bad as a rollercoaster, with the exception of being able to control your speed. I may have even found myself leaning a little to the left while watching this video. Such beauty, you shared with us today.

Thank you JP for taking me along with you! Really enjoyed your video. Absolutely beautiful! I've only been to The Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone and Hoover Dam. Those were truly awesome parks to see in person than when we read about them in the history books in school.

I dove to the mountains heading to Roanoke VA from SC and I was so scared especially when I saw all the runaway ramps.

Those runaway ramps are designed to save semis that run away down the mountains. There nothing to worry about if anything they keep you a little bit safer

It sure is a beautiful view. The trip up there I might would have to close my eyes if I were not driving. I love Tennessee especially Gatlinburg. It's my favorite. Thanks for the tour. God bless you and your family.
