- Here's the "Director's Cut" of my Disney Princess Half Marathon Experience.
It's long enough to warrant that moniker.
(I may release a shorter version for the Attention Deficient.)
On February 26, 2017, I joined more than 21-thousand runDisney fans at Walt Disney
World for the 9th annual Princess Half Marathon. This race is defintitely geared toward
the "princesses."
18605 Women and 2097 Men, including myself, crossed the finish line.
This year's event was themed "Beauty and the Beast" as Disney cross promoted its
new family film of the same name. Accordingly, I picked a lot of music from the
1991 animated version for this video.
I dressed as Prince Hans from "Frozen." The balmy costume slowed my pace quite a bit
but gave me the oppotunity to get a lot of video. It also helped me prove a theroy that
those who dress up get noticed much more by the Disney Phtot Pass photographers.
I endced up with 45 picturs from the event.
This is also the most comprehensive video of any of the races I've finished.
I crunched more than 3 hours of video into this 29 minute adventure..
Next up: 2017 Star Wars Dark Side Challenge in April.

I agree. There is something extra special about Princess Weekend. I know ~ I know it's geared for women ... but the characters (Princesses and Princes) add something to the atmosphere.
LOL, that was me who shouted your name! I saw a guy with a Go Pro and knew it was you. :) Fantastic video, as always! I love how you capture so much detail, making me feel like I'm there again. Great costume and awesome, you stopped for some character photos! But come on, the line for the princes wasn't that long. ;)

OMG ... That was you!!! That's awesome. I thought I recognized your voice after hearing it back. I wish I didn't have such crappy eyesight.. although ~ it was still dark. Did you stop for the princes after MK? I'm waiting for you Half video!! I can't sto laughing. Some of those Princess/Prince lines were 50+ Deep. Talk about losing time.
It was very dark and on ramp, so I was relieved I didn't make you trip. ;) And yes, I'm shocked at how long the lines were for you considering your faster pace! They were beyond insane for me. I stopped for Mrs. Incredible (love her) and Buzz, since people don't tend to see him on the right. I really wanted a Gaston picture but the line moved too slowly and I was terrified of another Balloon Lady encounter. I had to stop for Captain Jack, though! I was bummed about walking injured and needed a pick-me-up. :)
I'm hoping to get the half recap done soon. They wouldn't take as long if I wasn't such a perfectionist! I'm still bothered by some mistakes in my 10k one. ;)
I can't wait to watch. It's really what I love about these Disney races. The experience is shared .. yet different for each of us. As you may be able to tell... I'm a perfectionist too. This one took nearly 4 weeks. You're tackling *4* videos. That's tough. I really do like your editing style. I am so torn right now about next year's PHM. After this race and video ... AND seeing it's the 10th AND a name change to the Fairy Tale Challenge ~ I want to run it. As you discuss, though ... time to crunch the numbers! Dopey and Paris are going to cost a lot of $$$$ in 2018. Hope your foot if healing.

Hey ... you know I have to "Up" the ante. LOL I don't think I'll go that far with a costume too often. I truly love these races too... but the cost is going to break the bank. I am desperately trying to show a little discipline. Dopey may have sliced into my SuperHeroes budget. ... the on ly consolation for me is living close enough to WDW to do more than one a year.
Your video is so inspiring to me! I will be running my first Disney Princess Half Marathon in February and I cannot wait! The best part is I am running it with my daughter! Thank you for your videos!

This video is my favorite so far, and also of your Grandmother when you visited Philadelphia. Hopefully I don't embarrass myself on the Nov. 2018 Wine and Dine two course challenge with a year of preparation, I just started the couch to 5 k. It will be a thrill if I bump into to you, not literally.

Thank you for posting this amazing video. I have been out of long distance running for about 8 years, but I've registered for the 2018 Princess Half Marathon. This both inspires me and gets me so excited about this race.

Great job with the video! Love the costume. This makes me really want to do the princess half. I've only done one disney race at Disneyland. I'm hoping to do the princess half in 2019!

That was an amazing video! You really do such an amazing job at these vids! Absolutely some of the best course recaps on YT!! My hubby and I were there with our girls for the races and had the time of our lives! Can't wait until next year! Training already!!

Our 13 year old ran the 5K with me and our 8 year old did the Kids' races! And no kidding, they're hooked so mission accomplished. Now, if only Disney did a family discount! Seriously next year, we've got 1 challenge, 1 half, 1 10K, 2 5Ks, and 1 kids dash....and cue the screaming wallet...hahaha! 💸
That's awesome! It really is a great .. active .. family vacation. I totally agree with the "screaming wallet" observation. I really want to do Princess Weekend again... but with Dopey (4 racees .. 5 or 6 hotel nights) and Paris in Sept. 2018 ~ Cha-ching! I can only imagine how expensive it gets for a family of 4!!
I love your videos!!!! I'm a runner and am putting up my races this year on my channel! I love destination runs and SOOOO hope to do a Disney run some day! Right now I stick to runs around the mid-west. Your editing is really awesome, btw!

I'm new subscriber.... this is the 4th vlog I've check out and love it. You get great shots... wonderful editing and fits perfect into a storyline. Have you done Disneyland ? I was inspired a few years ago to do Tinker Bell run now want add this run.... first baby steps of 5k

I haven't done a DL race yet. I really want to run one in California. I'll be talking about the race calendar and $$$$ in my next video before Star Wars. I ran my first Half in January 2016... and trainng for a year before attempting it. So, I think a 5K ... a couple 10Ks ... are a good idea. I MAY try to slip in Tinker Bell next May 2018??? From what I understand, the big difference between DL and WDW ~ you stay ON property for all the Florida races. It's a bit more Urban for Anaheim.
What an inspiring video! My team teacher and I are going to sign-up for the Princess Half 2018 next month. We haven't ever ran a half marathon so we are a bit nervous. Any training advice? Keep up the great videos!!
Thank you Jaclyn :) What's the longest distance you've run? I'm no expert.. having only run for about 28 months myself. I would simply look at the runDisney (or other suitable) Half Marathon training plan. Commit to it and stick to it the best you can ... and don't beat yourself up for setbacks. An old friend of mine who has run more than two dozen Marathons once told me, "Trust your training. Trust the time and effort you put it." It's true. The plans may not make you faster, but will help you finish without fatigue. You'll love Princess.
RezRuns thanks for the feedback! I just started about a month ago. I've made it to 2.5 miles and just signed up for my first 5K. I'm hoping that this gives me enough time to get ready for February.
You're doing great. The training program for the Dopey Challenge starts in July. You're ahead of the curve. Disney is soo much fun ... just remember it's all about finishing COMFORTABLY!! Follow the plan. You'll do fine. The course max is ... 16:30/mile ... or about 03:30-ish. You wan to shoot for about 15 min/mile ... to give yourself a bit of pad. If you're already doing better than that at 2.5 or 3.1 miles ~ bonus :)
So do you even have to pay still to do these runs? Your such a great ad for Disney!
I noticed you seem to prefer the Swan and Dolphin. Any reason for that? I have stayed at most of the Disney owned hotels (including the neighbors to the Swan and Dolphin: Beach Club, Yacht Club and Boardwalk), but have never tried those two. I guess the fact that they are not Disney-owned has always kinda scared me away.
Are you doing the Dark Side Half in 12 days? It's my first ever race and I'm like mortified. But your videos have helped and I've learned a few things :)! Thanks for posting them! I had no idea I should get up at 2am T_T!
Thank you ... You'll do great! I still get a bit anxious at races because of my visual impairment. Bottom Line ... if you've put in the time and miles ~ have some fun! Disney is great for a first race. As for the wake-up time, it really depends on how quickly you think you can get yourself together and down to the bus (if you're staying at a resort.) I tend to primp a bit and because I carry the camera and extra batteries ... you get it! When you check in, make sure you have them show you where the buses pick up in the morning. Good Luck. Have fun. Keep an ey out for me. I'll be out there for both the 10K and Half.

Thanks for all your videos again, they have been giving me motivation during this last week of training! I've been having the worst time with it haha.

I would have ditched that jacket by mile 5, lohl! What did you think about the race retreat; is it worth it? I heard a lot of people were happy to have that option during the races in January because of the weather...
You always make me laugh! :) I thought about ditching it ... but then I remembered how much it cost! :P I love the Race Retreat. I've done it three times now ... mostly for the food after. It's nice to get something to eat and start recovering. Oh ... and private gear check.
what's your camera set up? and how do you eliminate the running bounce?
Depends on the race. I have two setups for running. The first is a GoPro Hero 4 Silver and Feiyu Tech G4 steady gimbal for Gopro (They're older, but much more reliable than than newer setup) ... I also, occasionally, use my GoPro Hero 5 Black and Feiyu Tech G5. The latter is a bit more "touchy" and less stable but is water resistant. In addition to the gimbal(s) I stabilize some of my video in Adobe Premiere Pro.
do you have an Instagram for the Disney races ?
Good idea ... I should spread out a bit. I have an instagram ... but have to figure out how to set up some auto-posts. It's a bit exhausting trying to keep up with all of the social media (as you can imagine.)
