Great interview, being an old Stickie I knew Johnny well back then as well as Red Mickey. I remember one time when he was living over the border he came up as far as a pub in Killea in Donegal and two bus loads of us went out to meet him , Johnny was always held in the highest esteem, sound as a bell. Willie is right about the Republican movement back then being led by socialists as I remember as a teenager at a political education camp near Laytown we read and discussed mostly books by Marx and Engels and of course James Connolly , there were about 30 of us from all over the north , a few from Dublin and Kerry and it was the first time I met the two legends Cathal Goulding and Sean Garland both in leadership positions back then but the man who impressed me most that I met later on in Derry , a most committed socialist Republican , extremely bright and articulate was Seamus Costello later assassinated in Dublin and was a huge loss to the socialist movement in Ireland. It’s great that people are taking the time to hear the history first hand from people like Willie who is spot on in his whole analysis of where we were , still in an economic apartheid space in the Northwest.
