      It’s inevitable that you will make mistakes in Pro Wrestling. Sometimes your mistake could hurt someone. However I could say the same for any sport. The key is training in a Professional environment with Professional coaches who can minimise the chances of injury being a result of a mistake. Bumps, bruises and accidental knocks are part of the game though.
      In 18 years I can’t really remember ever hurting anyone, especially not the point of injury.

    Hey mate, thanks for the video it's really helpful. Currently I'm 16, 6 foot 5 and 285 pounds. My primary focus is losing weight and getting stronger. After high school as I'm from Singapore I'm required to serve in the military for 2 years, which I think would help me a lot in getting fitter and being able to do things such as 100 push ups. While wrestling school is almost 5 years away for me I really want to start preparing now. My one question is - what do bookers care most about, while I'm not the most fit person (working on it), I am quite strong and am pretty decent on the mic and I'm also a very creative person and love to tell stories (I've written 3 books) which I think would benefit me in telling a story in the ring. All these things are what made me love pro-wrestling. Thanks once again, your channel helps a ton.

      Thanks for the comment mate. Just stay consistent, get your diet and training program down as a routine, keep educating yourself and you'll see steady progress. At the same time, if the opportunity to start training arises, don't feel like you need to get into optimal shape before you start. Wrestling training will get you into shape even more so than any outside routine could.
      As for living far away from schools, it is what it is man. You have 2 choices. Either leave it as an obstacle and never pursue your dreams, or do whatever you can to get there. Whether that means moving out of your hometown, or dealing with long journeys to training. I've done both before and regret nothing, despite it being scary at the time.

    I went to a wrestling school a few years ago, was so excited. We never got to even step into a ring though. It was mostly hard cardio work until we could barely stand up followed by 20 minutes where we were taught to bump on the floor. It felt so unnatural doing it on the floor, they had a ring right there too! Throwing yourself around a ring would've mentally felt way more natural than doing it on the floor. Would've hurt all the same but without the mental barrier. I went for about a month (8 2 hour sessions) and had to stop, I was constantly in pain, even though I was being told I was doing everything correctly and I felt like 75% of the lessons was exercise and cardio work which I could've done at home or in a gym. My elbows and wrists have never been the same since, bumping on the floor with no experience sucks.

    • @damianslater
      @damianslater  2 года назад +1

      I 100% support that method of training and it's exactly how I was raised. I probably have too much of an explanation for the comments box, and of course I am not actually there to see exactly what's going on but the short of it is...
      Having trainees earn their way into the ring builds a culture of respecting the art form and most importantly, cements the fundamentals. Without strong fundamentals, everything else beyond that will crumble.
      Also, Pro Wrestling is not a natural thing for our body. The first year is all about building the calluses and conditioning the body to take impact. It took many months for my body to feel pain-free again. I'd leave every training session with a headache, sore elbows and mat burn/bruises all over. But I've now been wrestling for 20 years and have had zero catastrophic injuries, with very few minor injuries (most of which were caused by BJJ and Weight Training). I truly credit that to my original training.

    • @unrivaledwrestlingfigures

      @@damianslater Yeah my teacher used to say it was a respect thing regarding the ring. We needed to earn being able to step into the ring. Hey Damian, if one weight trains 4 times a week should I mix in my calisthenics with my weight training. E.g chest day, finish off with Hindu pushups/ other push-up variations etc
    Or should I do them on seperate days

    • @damianslater
      @damianslater  Год назад +1

      The optimal approach is to separate them by at least 6 hours if possible. If you mix too many stimulus (i.e. weight training immediately followed by cardio or another training method) then current literature says that your body will struggle to adapt and grow.
      You'll still see results, so if it suits your schedule better to put them together then go ahead, but if possible keep them separated.

    Awesome video. On a random note, I’ve always been surprised no one else ever adopted a similar gimmick to IRS. Irwin R. Schyster was my favorite wrestler growing up in the 90s. I was born in ‘81. Loved him and Money Inc. I wish today’s pro wrestling had a similar gimmick involving the same ring attire etc.! There’s so much potential. It could be a CEO. It could be a corrupt investment banker, it could be private investigator even. Anything. That dressy gimmick has tons of potential. I had friends who went to PW school who hoped to find a gimmick like that ultimately but no one seemed interested in the idea. I don’t get that.

There's a capoeira school not far from me and it seems like a good way to get more cardio in.

      I personally don’t agree with training that young. Most schools have an 16-18+ rule with good reason. You put yourself at a much higher risk of facing long-term injury. I’d always recommend getting into a grappling martial art from a young age like Freestyle Wrestling or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
      As for your question though, training generally doesn’t change at all regardless of age. I would hope the school you go to take major precautions, particularly when it comes to learning breakfalling and other high risk aspects of the game.

    What age is best to start wrestling school? I'm 17 right now and gonna start one soon

      17 is a fine age to start but it’s hard for me to put a number on it as everyone’s different.
      I started at 15 (which is no longer allowed in most places) which was ok and gave me more time to develop. Some would struggle starting that young due to the emotional and physical difficulty of it all.
      Others start well into their 20s or 30s and have a higher maturity level so may pick up things easier and cope better socially, but they also have less time and more miles on the body.
