The full scene was one of the best things I've ever watched. You need to experience this in theaters, it's incredible. Truly amazing to behold.
I saw it yesterday in the movie theatre , absolutely mind blown!
I watched it on Netflix on my phone on a train. Bit underwhelming to be honest.
@@TomRipley7350 relatable, first time watching on netflix felt kinda meh, but the 2nd one on theatre felt sooo beautiful and epic.
I recommend watching the clip of the real thing. This is nothing in comparison to it
@@davidstrope9121I don’t think they were trying to make it better. I think they were trying to do a reenactment. Hence the word act
I just saw this film in the theater, I sobbed so hard during this scene, I don't know what happened, the acting is just out of this world....
Bernstein conducting the finale of Mahler’s 2nd Symphony. Being a composer and brass player, this finale blows me away, and seeing Bradley/Bernstein conducting it is just amazing!
No, just the music is out of this world.
Same. It's the language of feeling so it's hard to put to words. That helplessness comes out in raw emotion.
Mahler's music has a big part in this! I've heard the Resurrection many times and the last few minutes tear me up every time!😭
They recreated one of the most beautiful moments in music history...
And did it wrong
Bradley is pissed about those 9 Oscar nominations with no wins. He's coming for all of them with this movie. LOL
Oscars mean nothing to them they work for the check like everyone
Not really, it’s actually a beautiful movie and he did amazing, if he gets it, I’m sure that’s just icing on the cake
Idk about the movie but best actor going to cillian I'm sorry
Bradley Cooper it literally just playing a caricature of Leonard Bernstein in this clip.
Have you seen the movie ?
This is me, in every room in my house, listening to my favorite film and tv scores.
Contender for THE scene of the year. Seeing this in a theater was incredibly euphoric.
Now watch the real thing. Even better!
The transcendent music is doing all the work.
@@looney1023 Right? Half the people in the comments seem to think this is just the movie soundtrack while their city's symphony is probably playing this piece at a deficit struggling to stay in business.
It's just a sound bite of an already existing performance of an already existing piece of music. Plenty of great scenes from movies this year that were new and not just giant sound bites.
@@villain7140 I'm a bit confused by your meaning... They didn't rip the sound from the performance, the music was performed live for the shot with the LSO.
Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan were great in this movie. This scene was the best part of the entire film. The rest of the movie I felt was good, but it didn't blow me away like this scene did.
This scene literally took my breath away in the theater.
Did you have a puff on your inhaler?
@@TomRipley7350yeah in what world is that funny or clever?
Same here. My audience applauded when it was done.
@@FilmSureelist97 I don’t believe you.
@@TomRipley7350 shut up
just watched this film for the second time today in theaters (the Paris in NYC). full tears streaming down my face each time during this sequence. act III of maestro is just some brilliant storytelling, filmmaking, and acting. I couldn’t help but be moved
I need to know! - is this the final scene of the film? I can't imagine anything following the finale of Mahler 2…
@@mgwynnjonesIt’s not the final scene. It comes at about 70% through the film.
@@mgwynnjonesnot the final scene, but I love where it comes beat-wise in the narrative!
gay
This was the most spine tingling part of the movie. I’ve watched it countless times. It was as if Bernstein was back among us once again. I’m sure that Lenny would’ve been proud of Bradley Cooper’s film and performance. His children have said that they felt that they had been given the gift of their father’s life on screen.
That string section was JAMMING!!!
They are flailing around like lunatics. Nobody plays the violin like that
@@joelyloucks6555 Except the London Symphony Orchestra violinists--right there in the clip--playing live
Olivia Coleman going ape shit on the Viloin
my exact thoughts lol
Totally true
That was the worst part of the scene
Saw it at The Paris in nyc opening day. Carey Mulligan did a q&a afterward. What a beautiful piece of art thus film is…Bravo to all the actors and the Maestro himself.
Bradley Cooper, ready to be a candidate for best actor, director and screenwriter...
It looks spectacular :D
The guy already has 10 nominations and is now adding three more. He might win one too
@@seauryakumar Four...I think he'll definitely get a "Best Picture" nom as well. (He produced the film, so he would get an Oscar for that.)
@@Kristine_202 Probably. It's still early though. Yet to see Maestro, although I don't see it winning best picture. Actor maybe, Leo is not going to win, Coleman and Cillian have more chance of winning.
We should be able to predict by January
The lady with the short black hair going crazy on the violin at 0:19 is incredible
When I tell you that I almost jumped out of my seat...
Literally gives me goosebumps everytime I see it
Chapeau bass, hats off, bravo, standing ovation. Class. Beauty. Music, simply Maestro.
I love it when music inspires a smile on my face. I couldn’t stop smiling when I watched this scene.
Watched it last night .... Fantastic .... Several scenes really stand out ... This one of them .... Wonderful ❤
Perfect... But all we ever wanted was S3 OF Shadow and Bone's!!!!
Wow. What a spectacular film!
Tremendous acting job by Bradley Cooper!
I actually welled up..... absolutely amazing
Incredible.
Like it or not - the fact is - a conductor like Bernstein entertains the audience - but what is way more important - he brings the ultimate performance out of each of the musicians. And result is - what is known - A Bernstein-conducted performance.
when i listened to this, so did my neighbors
I'm reading a lot of praise and I'm excited to watch the film. But it's doesn't take a Bernstein expert to notice how off Cooper is. I don't really care for impersonations, but Bernstein's movement was intentional, purposeful and very fluid. How can you not capture that when there's high quality footage of the performance.
This was my favorite scene ever
So powerful. Bradley out did Himself here.
One of the greatest scenes of all time
Best and my favorite scene in entire movie
Thank you Bradley Cooper rise and shine
Masterpiece!!!!!
I don't care about your movie-turned-meme and box office hit: MAESTRO is the movie of the year.
Yes sir Maestro, work hard play hard 🎶🪈
Bradley Cooper does better than most but it's still hilarious watching actors dramatize conducting, over exaggerate gestures, and knowing that the musicians are squirming and panicking to stay together so the thing doesn't fall apart. Regardless I'm so happy Mahler's music and classical music in general is being featured in recent films.
But wasn't Bernstein known to be a bit (and oftentimes more than a bit) of an over-exaggerator himself? Histrionics at the podium his trademark in fact.
@@mcaito Yes, he was known for "over-gilding the lily" as Isaac Stern put it. Bernstein wasn't originally a conductor I paid too much attention to because of that, but eventually I've realized he wasn't just putting on a show - he really was completely in love with the music and the thrill of live performance (and was actually doing something with the music).
I guess that's the difference here: actors in these movies are doing just that, acting, and as a musician you can tell.
Still a good movie and I can't believe there's a film out now featuring Mahler's 2nd.
@@brentmarquez9057 So true, not that John Williams hasn't already given us bits of 'borrowed' Mahler over the years, but what an absolute Mahler showcase this movie is, and if Phil from 'The Hangover' can help make Gustav Mahler a household name, I'll take it, regardless of how convincing Cooper is with the baton.
@@mcaito lol, me too and the contrast from The Hangover to conducting Mahler 2 is hilarious now that you mention it.
Idk if you’ve seen Bernstein conduct Mahler 2 before because he literally is that expressive
Brilliant film, outstanding performance, every time I watch, it give some goosebumps 🙌❤️
Can’t wait to watch ♥️
I could barely breathe while watching this in a theater. I think my heart was about to burst.
Tried so hard to not cry. What a film, what a sequence !

Looking forward to this story and music.
This was the only part of the movie that really clicked for me
Having just watched the original video of Bernstein, it definitely recaptures the feel of it.
Muuuuch better mixing than the original clip of course, understandable. Feeling the bass makes it so powerful.
What’s crazy about this, is that this man also played the American Sniper, Chris Kyle.

Why is the sound so bad? Has anyone who worked on this actually compared a real recording from him to this?
