- In this video you will know the biography Jayadeva Goswami (কবি জয়দেব গোস্বামীর সংক্ষিপ্ত জীবনী) in bengali. He is the writer of Gita Govinda. His short 'Documentary Biography' will show you a clear picture of him.
Jayadeva (born c. 1170 CE), also spelt Jaideva, was a Sanskrit poet during the 12th century. He is most known for his epic poem Gita Govinda which concentrates on Krishna's love with the gopi, Radha, in a rite of spring. This poem, which presents the view that Radha is greater than Krishna, is considered an important text in the Bhakti movement of Hinduism.
Little is known of his life, except that he was a loner poet and a Hindu mendicant celebrated for his poetic genius in eastern India. Jayadeva is the earliest dated author of hymns that are included the Guru Granth Sahib, the primary scripture of Sikhism - a religion founded in the Indian subcontinent centuries after his death.
A Brahmin by birth, the date and place of Jayadeva's birth are uncertain (see Jayadeva birth controversy). The Gitagovinda suggests that he was born in the "Kindubilva" village: scholars of Odisha, Bengal and Mithila have variously identified this place with a present-day village in their own region, including Kenduli Sasan near Puri in Odisha, Jaydev Kenduli in Birbhum district in West Bengal, and the village of Kenduli near Jhanjharpur in Mithila (Bihar). Recent studies show that scholars still disagree on the issue. Jayadeva, a wanderer, probably visited Puri at some point and there, according to tradition, he married a dancer named Padmavati though that is not supported by early commentators and modern scholars.
The remaining part of his life has been described in this video and you will know who was Jayadeva Goswami.

Jayadeva was never a contemporary to King Laxmana Sena of Bengal. This fact is vividly discussed by Padmashri Late Sri Satya Narayana Rajaguru in his book 'Mahakabi Jayadeva O Gitagobinda'. Jayadeva was the court poet of Ganga Monarch Choda Ganga Deva and his son Kamarnaba Deva. At that time the contemporary Kings of Bengal were Bijaya Sena and Ballala Sena. Chodaganga and his son Kamarnaba ruled over Odisha from 1112 AD to 1157 AD and it was that era when Gitagobinda was written in Odisha specifically at the Prachi Valley. King Laxmana Sena ruled over Bengal region from 1166 to 1205 AD and he was contemporary to Ganga King Raghaba Deva and Rajaraja Deva II. So basically writing of Gitagobinda was completed much before the ruling period of Laxmana Sena. So there is no way that Jayadeva worked as a court poet of Laxmana Sena as it is mentioned the above post.
