One of my favourite fights from Banshee, and most people don't mention it, is Ana vs Olek. It's a brutal fight, but is interspersed with a lot of flashbacks.
I remember way back when this episode first aired and all the MMA fanboys losing it because "there's no way this random guy is gonna come in and beat out a trained MMA fighter like this who has years of training and wins under his belt", and most other people pointing out, well no, he didn't have a good chance at beating him in a straight up brawl with grappling, which is entirely why he quickly changed gears and started fighting as "dirty" as possible and broke him down bit by bit all while still getting the shit kicked out of himself.
one of the reason i love Hood, because he always fight to survive, not to win, either you`re dead, or im dead if you play by your rules, you invite doom when fight agaisnt Hood
Hood also was trained military style so that adds whole other flair combined with his insane will to survive. Watch the albino fight and you’ll see how nuts the show makes this guy at survival
Thats what I always find funny about people who love MMA and see the fighters as Gods and while they are really good at fighting, they do so with a specific set of rules in place and like this guy said, if you take them away you open the door to all manner of things most MMA fighters aren't trained for.
@@DarkLordDiablos MMA fighters can fight with no rules to and they will do it better than anyone. Breaking rules isnt a skill so MMA fighter not following rules vs anyone still wins tho
I wonder if that MMA character did any prison time. Being in prison and fighting for survival in prison changes how you fight. That fight scene with Albino guy in prison.
I think the scene is made even better by the fact that Hood gets his ass kicked until the fight exits the ring, then it becomes a fight to the death where Hood has the advantage. Really clever writing and use of the environment to tell a story without saying anything.
One of my favorite fight scenes ever, it shows a good depiction of someone that's a polished pro fighter against someone that's fighting to survive by any means necessary.
One of the top 10 tv shows of all times. When the writing makes you pull for the bad guys it's great. At least five characters you fall for on here. Job is hilarious. Must watch.
I love how much range Antony Starr has to play this guy that you root for at every turn in Lucas Hood and then the guy you just want to die as Homelander in The Boys
Hey, Max. This show is pretty nuts. Part of Hood's strategy is to tank everything his opponents throw at him and keep coming in order to break their resolve/spirit. It gets him into too-deep water a time or two, but protagonist armor is the highest class of all.
Absolutely love this show. Started watching it because of Antony Starr. Just finished season 3. I’m sad that I’m on the last season but I’m definitely going to re watch it in the near future.
The fact that the protagonist is an utterly brutal and certifiably crazy SOB is a recurring theme in this series. He's one of those guys who genuinely doesn't seem to care if he lives or dies, which makes him thoroughly frightening.
I love BBJ. When the MMA fighter got the guy in a triangle: I'm yelling at the TV..."GET YOUR LEGS UNDER YOU AND POSTURE UP." I think that might be the first time I've ever seen someone get out of a triangle like that, on a show.
Ah banshee, my all time favorite TV series, I've watched it through 3 times. I was always incredibly impressed with the brutal realism of the fight choreography.
Fight clearly shows the difference between martial arts as it is today (Sports based) and factual self defence: brutal, anything goes style of fighting. Something fight Sports fanboys will never understand. Good to see you make that clarification. Always enjoy your reactions.
100% Correct. Fight Sports fanboys are totally clueless, many of them think that just learning a little bit of BJJ means they are invincible, and that the Gracies invented grappling.
@@Chris66able what is crazy is if you look into muay thai the modern version isnt as lethal and is sports based where as some sects follow the original style of muay thai which usually involved caving in the skull with the knees and using the elbows to crush temples.
This was an incredibly brutal scene and really set the tone for the series. You don't really understand why he fights this way until quite a bit deeper in. It might even have been Season 2.
I think it was even later than that. Like, maybe even season 4 because they are looking for Job. And we get those flashbacks bc Hood tracks down his former CIA handler to find Job. Was pretty awesome seeing Sheriff Hood and future Sheriff Hopper reveal their back stories. Lol
@@rudyNok The audience doesn't find out his true background until season 3 or 4. His time in prison doesn't actually explain his fighting ability, it just demonstrates that he is a savage. But the flashbacks of his time in the military is what I would consider to be a logical explanation for his fighting skills. And we don't get that til later in the show. But the show isn't fresh in my head right now, so I might be forgetting something.
Hood learned all of these tricks in prison where he was for 15 years. You see in this segment some flashbacks because he remembers how he learned to fight the hard way. There was a brutal fight with a guy in prison where he learned that trick with the elbow. Hood learned the hard way to survive, all of the dirty tricks. This is very good show.
I always thought the fights were very creative because in this scene you can clearly tell that once he fights dirty (since dude was a professional fighter) he out matches him
I'm an old-school Karate guy, makiwara and body conditioning and all, and people don't really appreciate how much punishment a tough man can take and still be dangerous...We used to do full contact with no pads 'cept a cup back in the 70s and the only rules were, well, pretty much what the sheriff did in that video weren't allowed. Maan, you'd hurt for a week even WINNING a match like that!
Thanks for this, Banshee is amazing and has enough fight content to keep you going for many weeks! As many have suggested a "Hood" vs "Proctor" breakdown would be awesome.
Excellent point concerning sport v.s. street. It's why when anyone asks me about learning "self defense" I tell them that's a great term that martial arts schools use so they don't sound like psychopaths, but in reality, in the real world, if you don't practice "self offense" you may wind up being a statistic. It comes down to mentality - whenever I have trained anyone, one of my first tenets is you can go green when you are in your home. The second before you open the door to go outside, you switch to yellow alert level. You stay there as you move through the outside world. You never stare at your shoes as you walk, and HELL NO not your damn cell phone. Be alert and aware in every circumstance, and most cowards who may consider you a target, will quickly move on to the next because they perceive awareness and strength. This is especially true for women. When I've trained women, I've taught them the swiftest and most brutal ways to destroy an attacker. This cinematic clip is great entertainment (it really is a great program - I enjoyed it), but it is completely unrealistic that nobody else jumped in on either side. In the real world, remember, if there is 1, there is 2. If there is 2, there is 3 and so on. You may not see them at first, but always expect cowards to move in packs and employ predatory tactics to flank and corner (and attack you from behind). They are bold in numbers, and nearly always draw strength from one figure they consider the alpha. These days, I prefer teaching people how to shoot. 🙂
Loved this show! Glad it’s finally getting attention. Watched it long before the boys ever came out. And it’s based in my hometown area (Lancaster Pennsylvania)
My Mother was a US Marine. She told me that if I ever got into a fight that I should always focus on injuring limbs. If you take out the limbs, men falter faster. She explained the idea of body shots and head shots are not as consistent in ending a fight because you don’t know what your opponent can tolerate. Taking away a limb or two? No one can tolerate it.
This show I randomly just started watching and I was hooked immediately! Great acting, delivers beautifully and this scene in particular I was just like holy shit!
I use to go the gym with this guy who use to fight Muay Thai in the ring. He had professional fights, won a few of them. Decent fighter. He came into the gym with a scar on his nose. He had gone to the pub, some thug started a fight with his friend. Rather than mash him up, he clinched him to wait for the bouncers. The guy bite on his nose. Sometimes being a fighter in fighter mode in a streetfight can work against you.
Banshee is one of the few shows that get down and dirty and show how "realistic" a fight turns it does not hold back and showing how brutal it gets, and the show had me hooked from the first bar scene with Hood.
Kinda. But some parts were unrealistic. For example the biting escape from the armbar. If you bite someone's leg in that position your arm will be broken.
I have watched the series three times, but I have never felt the pain in this fight so...lively like when you commented it. I mean, it was like you felt it too. Yes, it was a movie after all, but I found the characters pretty well built. Thank you!

Kudos for making the distinction between combat sports and self defense. Most MMA fanboys tend to afirm that MMA is unbeatable. I'm an Aikidoka for many years (I will probably get some shit for stating Aikido :D) but, at least in my style, there are no assumptions for rules, so the mindset is to expect the unexpected, but also expect that there's no style that's unbeatable, not there's no one person that's unbeatable. People tend to disregard the 'mean' factor of the opponent, as well as the luck factor in a fight. Again - kudos mate - I really enjoy watching your analisys.
I am so glad you decided to review this show... and one of the first, and somehow still most brutal, fight scenes that it delivered! You could have a whole channel devoted to this show's fights. EDIT: Also, expected the 'elbow-block' to be called out as bullshit, was surprised!
The elbow block requires a lot of precision, and I wouldn't do it vertically like that because it would be really easy to miss their hand, but can definitely be done. Yoel Romero has been known utilise a 'visor guard' or 'cross arm guard' which is a high guard with the elbows out, in the UFC, he actually managed to break Robert Whittaker's hand with it during their second fight
Never seen the series. But from experience in seeing actual street fights. This was scary accurate with the amount of "dirty" tricks there are. When a real fight breaks out, survival is the only thing that matters and survival doesn't have rules.
Hood aka you never actually find out his name, is the Maaan👌🏽 And yes, banshee is a hidden gem if you've not seen, one of the best shows to binge watch👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you! I was looking for a fighting specialists reaction to this particular fight. It’s great at showing the difference between being a good fighter as a sport mastership and a real street fight. Sheriff was absolutely outmatched in the ring. The black guy was practically dancing around him. But sheriff is treating this as a street or prison fight where loosing is not an option so he’s willing to bite, go for balls, eyes etc. And as you said, you can’t train for someone biting you lol. Endurance (being able to take a hit) and brutality can outlast skill. I spent 10 years practicing judo as a sport. And yeah I can flip a guy over on a tatami. Where he’s restricted by all kinds of rules on what he can do to me. But the one street fight I was in while travelling all that training flew out the window. The dude who jumped me was older bigger and stronger and he would’ve kicked my ass. (He was Russian and attacked me cause I was wearing Ukrainian flag on my backpack. So he probably wasn’t gonna just rob me and go away, he wanted to beat me up). I only survived that cause the first thing I did is I punched that guy in his Adams’s apple with my phone and ran away while he collapsed down coughing lol. I got on my train and spend the rest of the day thinking of how useless all my judo was here.
The creep had it coming, having beaten a young girl terribly. The guy was a big up and coming MMA type star. Of course I know it's just a TV fight, but what a freaking TV fight it was...!! So my question: if it were real how long do you think it would take Sanchez to recover in a hospital?? He literally got maimed terribly, compound fractures, shit broken that's not supposed to get broken like that.... wow. I would think a beating like that ended his career....am I crazy??
Banshee certainly did things with fight scenes that I'd never seen before, and considering how many fight scenes have been made, and how many I've seen, that's a remarkable thing. They way they did this was perfect. A trained fighter against a street fighter, and we clearly see the pro dominating, until it turns into a street-fight and all the rules go out the window. Then it's bottle over the head, bitten ear, bitten leg, nut shot, blocking with the elbow (which he had done to him in prison), throat strike, split finger webbing, headbutt, torn/dislocated elbow/shoulder and a serious beating. All the way through the series, Hood comes across as a very capable fighter, but what elevates him is he fights dirty too.
I trained in various kung fu styles but grew up with a few street fights first! Then i got into security which was a happy blend of the two, clean in the defence but with a little dirty grab n drag to exit the idiots from the venue.

Burton vs. Nola was the best fight imo. They also used some neat camera tricks for that one
You finally done a banshee reaction, SO excited for more of this man. RESPECT!!! let's GOOOOO, there chereography is insane
I remember way back when this episode first aired and all the MMA fanboys losing it because "there's no way this random guy is gonna come in and beat out a trained MMA fighter like this who has years of training and wins under his belt", and most other people pointing out, well no, he didn't have a good chance at beating him in a straight up brawl with grappling, which is entirely why he quickly changed gears and started fighting as "dirty" as possible and broke him down bit by bit all while still getting the shit kicked out of himself.
one of the reason i love Hood, because he always fight to survive, not to win, either you`re dead, or im dead
if you play by your rules, you invite doom when fight agaisnt Hood
Must watch.
My dad was the cinematographer for this. Chris Faloona
Wow!
Because of this short scene, I binged watched the whole series. The show is awesome.
Fighting with a suit, that an elegant high class fight 😂😂
No way u reacted to this! Love this show, soooooo underrated.
The fact that the protagonist is an utterly brutal and certifiably crazy SOB is a recurring theme in this series. He's one of those guys who genuinely doesn't seem to care if he lives or dies, which makes him thoroughly frightening.
Banshee the best series EVER. watched it 3 times ALL the characters are brilliant.
I love BBJ.
When the MMA fighter got the guy in a triangle: I'm yelling at the TV..."GET YOUR LEGS UNDER YOU AND POSTURE UP."
I think that might be the first time I've ever seen someone get out of a triangle like that, on a show.
Subbed for more Banshee analysis! This show had some great looking fights, would love to see your takes on them.
Lol
@@RustCole01 It was way before that, I just finished watching it. Probably season 2 like RandomGuyDan wrote.
I always loved that almost everyone in Banshee knew how to fight. lol.
One of my favorite TV shows of all time.
Dat season one finale. Damn.
I always thought the fights were very creative because in this scene you can clearly tell that once he fights dirty (since dude was a professional fighter) he out matches him
Yay!! took my suggestion :D
10 years and still the show holds up really great shit
lol! you even put a legit looking advisory warning too, i think there was good reason for it, awesome
There's a fight in a restroom from the Punisher TV series on Netflix that's pretty brutal.
The Best Show on TV most people have no clue about. It was great start to finish. So many amazing fight scenes.
Missed the best part; after getting up Hood looks atvone of his deputies who had made a snide comment about him & says "meet the new boss"
Hood was a character study in, it’s not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog.
I think this is the best fight in tv shows that I've ever seen. And so satisfying
I remember watching this scene during the show and thinking "this is the best fight scene I've ever seen. "
Hood was like some special forces dude before he became a thief or something. Spooky scary shit. Damien Sanchez was outclassed from the beginning.
That elbow block and the finger snaps had me cheering I was like "FUCK YES!"
Has to be one of the best action shows out there...!! Keeps you on edge of your seat every episode!! Unreal
This show I randomly just started watching and I was hooked immediately! Great acting, delivers beautifully and this scene in particular I was just like holy shit!
One of the most fun shows and so underrated. Great from start to finish.
One of the brutal and satisfying fight scenes in the tv history!
I will second and third that this show is amazing. Just watched and wish it had more seasons.
No when you’re fighting somebody like that there’s never too much ground and pound
One of the best shows I have watched. Nice to see it being picked up for this vid
Thank you!
Banshee was such a gem of a show ! Very underrated.
The Law & Order SVU signature sound effect in that disclaimer was a pleasant surprise!
Oh god he did the banshee video lmao, ever since I saw the guy commenting about it the other day I've been binge watching the show currently at season 3 episode 5, pretty damn good show, would still like get max to watch Warrior more tho but I've already seen it
I hardly see anyone react to this show which is a shame for how good it was.
Hell yeah! I love this scene, it sold me on the show when I first saw it.
That possessed look at 5:07 when he breaks the fingers though... 🥴😡🤬👹
Hood vs Proctor or Nola vs Burton. LOVE you're vid's mate.
"I LIKE HIM" eek!, he are a raper!, I take that back!"
Too feckin' true! he is an unpleasant individual!, brutal shots from both of them in this row!
HomeLander after being depowered by Soldier Boy ..... Dude is still lethal
That's not a fight, ladies and germs ............ that's just a BRAWL.
Right that just makes me wanting to watch the whole show again.
Banshee had some amazing fight choreography. I'm glad you watched it.
Never seen the series. But from experience in seeing actual street fights. This was scary accurate with the amount of "dirty" tricks there are. When a real fight breaks out, survival is the only thing that matters and survival doesn't have rules.
If you haven't watched it yet, the show BANSHEE is absolutely amazing. A Must Watch!!!
best show ever, seen 3 times complete
Hood aka you never actually find out his name, is the Maaan👌🏽
And yes, banshee is a hidden gem if you've not seen, one of the best shows to binge watch👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
"No. He's done! Permanently! That sherriff fucked him up! I know! If I hadn't seen it myself I wouldn't believe it."
I've only just realised the main character actor is none other than 'Homelander' from 'The Boys'. DOH! You should watch his prison fight.
"I like him already" - famous last words
Loved this show. Amazing fights. So raw and brutal.
Dude I know this isn't no comedy but I laugh every time I heard this poor man scream 🤣
Yeah the screams were a little over the top haha
Walking off after the fight, Hood steals the guys Rolex.
Antony Starr great New Zealand Actor ! BANSHEE Rocks !
I trained in various kung fu styles but grew up with a few street fights first!
Then i got into security which was a happy blend of the two, clean in the defence but with a little dirty grab n drag to exit the idiots from the venue.
That elbow block was something else.
