- This lecture covers the historical background relevant to Virgil's Aeneid. That includes a brief history of Rome from its legendary founding by Romulus in 753 BCE to Augustus' victory at the Battle of Actium in 31 BCE

Wow! I have the Great Books Series and started reading Virgil. This historical context is so timely. Very thorough erudite presentation with timelines, motivations, and understandable distinction between history vs fable. Looking forward to other videos now:)
