FACTS
I wonder what kind of people Mineta's parents are and how they raised him? People defend the villains and blame their upbringing and how they were treated for why they're the way they are, but they ignore that fact when it comes to Mineta.
Mineta has no backstory. We know why the villains are like they are which why people defend them. But Mineta has no backstory like most of the class. So there’s no way to tell how he was raised you can’t really defend a character if there’s no reason given why they do the things they do.

You would know that mineta actually contributes to defeating Gigantomachia and it nearly kills him (since he overused his quirk) but he doesn't chicken out like a coward which WAS in his nature.. So, I would say he had better character development than you know... HALF of the class. He literally saves Deku, Bakugo, and Todoroki from being ACTUALLY murdered and he was a critical part of the plan to defeat Gigantomachia while the main 3 were wounded and injured. So I feel mineta redeems himself since he could have literally bled out by using his quirk to whole down an actual giant
While roshi was very useful in beginning of goku and krillin's lives by teaching him techniques and life lessons like "There will always be someone stronger." (For Goku to deal with arrogance) or "It's ok to accept that someone is better than you, so you be the best you can be." (For krillin when comparing himself to goku and the rest of the z-warriors).
He really didn't play a role in Z and actually took a break to live a simple life until the golden frieza saga, roshi really doesn't change as a character until the tournament of power where goku and krillin to PUT everything into a blast due them pushing themselves to their limit to win this match and he feels like he is holding down the team since his old age compared to the others.
So I feel that was the opposite of roshi in the sense that mineta took a while to developed since he was the gag character but roshi BARELY development and he is the gag character.
Literally, he is the author favorite character besides Mirko. He was made to be a joke character but he actually developed in a healthy way and sees his classmates more than just "attractive women" but friends.

One other thing to note about Mineta is that he’s actually smart. He may not be nerdy like Izuku, but he does have a big brain of his own. He may be a pervert, but he’s an intelligent one. And his hard work and ethics backs up his motives. Sure, he wants a harem, but he’s honest about that. How many people today would be honest about being a pervert? Not enough!

I don't mind Mineta because he always gets punished for whatever behavior he does. Maybe the more time he spends are people like Deku and Ida, and the more he matures, he'll turn into a decent person and hero and maybe get an actual gf who likes him as a person.
He never gets any repercussions from the school though. It does not help a girl who gut assaulted if the perpetrator is punished. Especially if it is expected that she does the punishing herself. The school has the responsibility to ensure the girls safety. Sure the guy is a child too, but as soon as the school knows about an incident they have to act. They can use education to make him understand how his behavior effects the girls. Then they should tell him, that he will get kicked out if anything like this happens again. But the school does nothing and what the girls are doing to him is obviously not much of an issue for him. As long as he is there every girl must fear to be assaulted at any time. Who knows how he will escalate his assaults in the future.
Mineta is hilarious to me. Makes me laugh pretty hard at least in the dub version. He is the comedy relief of the show. If people are seriously getting offended at a cartoon about super heroes they need to go back in there safe space.

I'm okay with Mineta. Sure, his perverted antics can be funny and annoying but his level of annoyance is what I considered slightly tame compared to Monoma. He’s weird he’s gross and he’s a pervert
Mineta’s quirk obviously has some potential as a support hero or something along that line. Maybe not a big hitter, but he could get the job done for sure. I wish they would give him more cooler moments to shine though, kind of like Sanji from One Piece in how he’s a skirt chaser but still has cool moments.

Mineta is one of the best in his class, he is entirely underestimated in his intelligence(He's one of the top two smartest in 1-A which is the top class in the top school in japan) The way he can use his quirk is out of the box and insane once you realize Mineta figured out his trajectory while zooming in the air at high speeds and perfectly placed his balls in a way that added pressure to his opponents. The fact that Mineta is a joke character and that he doesn't apply himself enough is why he isn't seen as more of a contender in the eyes of superficial fan girls.
Mineta quirk floats on water what if he learned to fight on water using a bouncing styles for water combative situations .

Also a common trend in fanfic to swap Mineta out for Shinsou but what would’ve happened if you were to swap out Mineta for a member of Class 1-B like Kendo, Monoma, Tetsutetsu, etc.?

@@cdoggo3352 I would love to see that! The thing with MHA is we are given a reason to dislike a specific character in the beginning, but once we learn their backstory it gets better. Idk if you read the manga or not, but once some backstories get revealed my opinions of these characters change drastically lol. Wait till July I have a few videos discussing these!

And what's the consequence of that? Not three minutes later she's got him TIED TO A CHAIR, BEING SUBJECTED TO THE LUDOVICO TECHNIQUE. For those not familiar, the Ludovico Technique--where you're tied to a chair with your eyes wedged open and forced to watch disturbing imagery--is a MIND CONTROL TECHNIQUE created in the dystopian future of "A Clockwork Orange."

I am not sure how I got this information or if it is even canon, but I believe he got his perverted behaviour from his previous school where he wanted to talk to girls but couldn’t which is why he wanted to be popular with the girls.
I think it's important to look at side material too for this purple-hued overlord. See, in one of the light novels detailing random events of the students and their lives, we see something very interesting. While on the bus that would take them to the summer training camp, everyone starts telling stories to pass the time. Mineta decides to join in and manages to convince everyone that it isn't dirty... mostly.
The story goes like this:
Mineta was four years old and obviously was unable to buy a... special magazine. Dejected, he made his way home. However, he found this page on the way back and wanted to find who it belonged to. In order to do this, though, he needed to do two things:
1. Learn to read
2. Actually locate the person
So he did just that. He studied all of the Japanese language, including Kanji, at the age of four and mastered it. Soon, he eventually found the author. The author was writing an erotica novel and young Mineta didn't like how forlorn he looked, so he tried his best to encourage him. Thanks to his kind words, the author resumed his work even when everyone else doubted him and is currently a successful author with movies on the way.
This story highlights two key aspects of his character, those being his intellect and pervy nature. Realistically, no human should ever be that way at FOUR YEARS OLD, but I believe that his nature is either due to his quirk, some kind of family abuse, or a mixture of both. So with mastery over his quirk, he's mastering his own emotions, since it's clear that his quirk ties into his health. When you look at him from this angle, it becomes so much clearer why he acts the way he does: clearly, he was raised to act this way.
A year late but I LOVED that chapter of the light novel. Usually the light novel author tends to screw over mineta and make him even creepier and gross than the manga. But there, his perverted nature, intellect, spunk, and even kindness was utilized correctly.

Some people also forget that Mineta is actually intelligent then more people give him credit for as he’s shown to be able to having high scores on tests when it comes to grades as he also in the top half of Class 1-A’s Grades, which if I remember, he was ranked top 5 in a test out of 20 people in the class
Thank you for covering a character that is wrongly labeled. Okay, well that might not be entirely true he is a pervert. But you shouldn't focus on a character's bad qualities to judge his character overall. In fact, season 5 so far has shown him to be more capable and maybe even slightly more mature. Yes, he did block the attack only to get knocked into Mina, but all of the other times he was shown off he has acted a lot more maturely. Heck, in the first episode of season 5, he was paired up with Froppy. And not once did he make a comment or a gesture towards her.
mineta for me is an interesting character, he has certainly grown as a person and has done some shitty things, but despite improving he is still widely boiled down to being just a one dimensional person. meanwhile bakugo has been forgiven for well everything without ever being held accountable. and i beleive that if the roles were reversed and bakugo were the one being a pervert people for the most part would be fine with it. because bakugo is seen as more appealing. when in reality he is just as bad if not worse

Hands down the most underrated 1A student is Cero. Has one of those super unique gimmicky quirks that’s actually pretty cool when you think about it

My thing was he got in to 1A but a guy with the ability to use mind control by talking didn’t , not necessarily a bad character but we don’t live in a world where master roshi or master juraiya personality are seen as funny or comical relief anymore , at least not to everyone and since this is his main character trait and he doesn’t have too many other layers to his personality or serious moments like juraiya it’s easy to write him off as a bad character but he honestly has his moments where he gets to shine
Shinso just didn't try and that is why he is in class c.
I actually want to see that Mineta is one of the few characters who got a major change when All the students are back, like there will be some students who still look the same (Shoto and Bakugo) some students who have a small change to them (Kirishima keeping his hair black and down and Tsu with shorter hair) then there will be the complete changes whether in looks or appearance. One of those major changes I'm hoping for is Mineta getting a sizeable growth spurt as well as growing facial hair that look like grape vines; he'll he could just be a body of a "Greek god" and have people call him Dionysis because of how different he looks.

Bakugo is improving and actually a likeable character now, i've always liked the addtion, same goes for endeavor. He's also improving drastically on terms with his family and others.

I'm of a similar opinion to you. I can see his potential as a hero and would like him if it wasn't for the creepy comments he makes. It's kind of disappointing the way his personality completely overshadows any good qualities he has.

I get not really liking the type of character Mineta is but the massive hate he get is so overblown and ridiculous
Despite his pervyness, Mineta can also be a bit of a crybaby at times. But at the same time, not only can he be underestimated, but Mineta can sometimes underestimate himself, and when he does manage to take a breather and think, he can surprisingly be useful with his quirk. As for other heroes who can be underestimated, there's one that I feel is deeply underestimated in MHA: Kyouka Jirou.
I legit think Mineta is a really good character and his quirk can be a great combo! Jirou is hella underrated imo!

May I say I agree with you on the forefront of Mineta being more capable than he seems and having more depth when the moments call for it. I believe that the biggest issue I personally have with him is the fact that the moments aren't too much returning to his perverse nature and over obsessive focus on crude comments about girls. He's had growth, yes, but I have to say its disappointing how it seems to disappear too constantly as he returns to being the little lewd ball of annoyance I loathe and detest.
To be honest, while it was funny at first, it is a little played out at the later game. Mineta should get more showing and perhaps it not be limited to just crude jokes and pitiful actions.

to be fair i can stand him better than zenitsu from demon slayer, yeah bite me. Yeah they are both jar jar binks types of comic relief characters but at least the humor from mineta comes from the many way he gets punished for his action (and its always satisfying seeing the anoying character get what he deserve), hell they make him full clockwork orange at the end of the of the training arc, where you can find that from any other perv anime guy. The humor from zenitsu comes that he becomes an over power god every time he sleep and that about it the rest is just crying and simping over nezuko.
The things about Mineta as a pervy trope is an expectation for them made by another great pervy tropes like Sanji and Jiraiya, meanwhile Mineta is ugly & not badass looking make him so unlikeable
The real reason why he is so hated is because Mineta does absolutely nothing he has no backstory barely any screen time brings nothing to the plot his power is stupid compared to most others he is just a side nothing character since he has nothing going for him all that leaves is the annoying pervy joke character since he has no character development and serves no purpose to the story he has absolutely no character beyond the pervy joke character. So he has no redeeming qualities so all that’s there for people to see is the negative sides to a pervy character. I don’t hate Mineta but it’s obvious why is so hated compared to other pervy characters like Jiraya Sanji that are well written have story serve major purposes to the story and actually have much more beyond the pervy joke side.
Everything about him is unappealing, his quirk, his costume, his personality, his general design, his motivation to be a hero, it would be fine if it was a one-time joke but no, he is supposed to be a recurring character.

You’re right about the a lot of things aren’t acceptable in real life part but many people still think that they should be allowed to dislike a character for doing things that would be weird in real life and I, personally agree with them. For example, a lot of my twitter mutuals dislike Jiraiya from Naruto because of his perviness, some of them dislike him so much that they made tweets saying they were happy when he died

While providing comic relief, he also has some good character growth.
He became less pervy (while still being a bit, but hey he's a teenager)
And not to mention he's pretty smart as shown on the test scores and in the training against class B.
And his weirder personality and motivations giving the class some much needed diversity. Almost everyone (except like 5) has the same "i want to be hero to save people" but Mineta is looking for the fame and female attention (while yes, a little weird and awkward, it's still different from the others)
