You saved me well over $50.00! The rattling was driving me nuts. Your video was dead on when I examined the shaft. Thanks for the post.
Your welcome!
I owned many aquaclear, and the one i bought recently made subtle but annoying rattling noise, so i took it apart, and i didn't even take the rod out. I just put vaseline on the tip of the rod and put the impeller all the way in. Took the impeller out and put some more vaseline at the tip of the rod again and did the same. I did this 4 times, and the rattling noise is 100% gone. The lid can make the rattling noise louder, but the lid only amplifies the rattling noise. If there is no rattling noise, the lid doesn't cause the noise unless your lid happens to be very defective.
Thanks, this video saved me from having to buy a new filter. My impeller shaft was loose and I hadn't realized you have to push it in like that. All quiet now
Good
This video was exactly what I was looking for. After i took the impeller off, i could see the worn-out area of the impeller shaft before even pulling it out. Thank you.
I am late to this, but if anybody has a new filter, I recommend putting petroleum jelly on the filter. If you have a new impeller shaft, mine was completely new and I started to hear some rattling. I added some petroleum jelly to the shaft and to the impeller no more rattling noise, try it out.
Going to try it later today.
Totally worked for me today with a new rattling filter, thanks a ton!
Best comment ever, literally killed the hum/buzzing noise!
This is genius. You not only found the problem but also the solution. I spent the past 30 minutes banging the unit on the table thinking there might a screw lose in there but it’s in fact there is a screw loose in my head. The Vaseline is definitely helping. You guys should be engineers tbh
In lieu of a new aquaclear shaft,I installed a Fluval 405 (ceramic shaft). Although this shaft is a little bit longer, it does not affect its operation. It does not wear out like the original one.
I replaced mine with a nail and it works fine. Cut the nail to the same length as the shaft and make sure the nail fits the impeller.
I have the same noise with my new filter. Do you think it’s the same issue?
It's possible the shaft could be misaligned or something wrong with the impeller, in my experience these filters are pretty quiet
Thank you so much!!! This stupid rattling noise was making me go insane
Your welcome!
5 years? Mine started vibrating in 5 days
Thanks for the video. It was driving me crazy.
Your welcome!
I'm on my 3rd freaking impeller shaft on my Fluval C4 which has the same motor as the Aquaclears, i clean the impeller every time i maintain the filter. The problem is the top of the shaft isn't held by anything causing a vibration which grinds down the metal shaft. This causes noise, Fluval bought Aquaclear designed a new C series filter but never fixed the noisy motor problem.
Yep it's really the only flaw in the whole system
@@TrafishAquatics If only Fluval would address the issue, these filters would be the best
All they would have to do is add a cap with a retainer like they have in the fluval canisters and that would fix it
@@TrafishAquatics I agree
Ok, cool, but where do you get a new impeller shaft?
There's a link in the description for the one I got from Amazon
I have a marine land magniflow 360 and I was wondering where can I get a shaft for my type of canister filter
Let me do a little digging for you and I'll post a link here if I find one
Here you go www.marineland.com/parts/filtration-products-and-skimmers/magniflow/impeller-assembly-for-360.aspx
Trafish Aquatics thank you
Your welcome!
amazing that this company refuses to fix a major problem..i had a aweful rattle on a brand new store bought one
It makes them more money so in thier eyes it's good for business, but in a customer's eyes it sucks
ceramic shafts on the Fluval 07 series were meant to prevent this kind of wear, but even those make a horrible grinding noise
This guy is so smart thank you big help
should I go out to my shed and get a new impellor shaft?
You can if you want to
Mine is brand new and it’s making a buzzing sound is that supposed to be normal?
My impeller shaft broke at the very bottom of the motor on my aquaclear 110 . I cannot pull the tiny remaining part of the shaft in the motor . What options do i have of getting it out . A needlesnose is much too big . Am i screwed or is it possible to drill from the bottom of the motor to get it out and glue a new shaft in ?? Thanks :)
So the concept is shaft should be clean without any dirt such as sand in my case, for the impeller to not make noise.
In my case new hang on filter is rattling I guess due to sand intake...
If magnet on outer side as some scratches does it make noise?
What is the diameter and length of the shaft?
Amazing! Thank you!!!!!
Well done buddy thanks a lot. One of the best explanation and solution
I'm going to try this with my anko filter??
I know I shouldn't use cheap shit but ATM I can't afford anything else I have a 5.5Gal tank i use an anko filter and heater roughly around $13 to 15 each I haven't had a problem apart from getting a brand new filter and it being twice as loud as the old one I'm not sure why maybe a lemon or the quality has dropped because I brought the exact same one 3 years ago
Thanks, 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I just bought one yesterday and it’s making that noise right from the start. It’s so annoying 🤬
Make sure the impeller and the shaft is seated properly, there's also a plastic housing that drops down over top of the impeller, Make sure that is snapped into place properly as well
@@TrafishAquatics Thanks I did check. I’ve made at least 6 attempts. It sounds seated correctly because god know *that* noise is instantly intolerable 😂 I saw where someone took it apart and showed why it vibrates and it’s my exact problem. I simply swapped it out with another filter in a different room that doesn’t bother me as much 😂👍
Ok, I've heard others having issues as well, it's unfortunate since they cost so much
Where did you get the shaft?
I bought it on amazon www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004PBG4P0/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_inactive_ship_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Thanks brother
Any time
Thanks dude
Mine rattles after I clean it every six months.
There is probably enough buildup around the impeller that it smooths out any imperfections that would cause a rattle, when it's cleaned it probably comes back for a little while
Thank you Sir!
Your welcome!
But I just got mine last night lmao
If you just bought it and are experiencing rattling, either the shaft is bent or the impeller is making contact with the plastic housing.
Trafish Aquatics I put some Vaseline and it’s quiet now :) hopefully it will last a while before I have to dismantle and do it again
@@Luceium01 Vaseline? Wouldn't it contaminate the filter?
Nope, Is petroleum-based lubricant, which does not break down in water which makes it safe
@@TrafishAquatics ok...thanks
lemme get a new shaft then
Of course I watch this when the stores closed
