VoicePlay is my favorite group by far. They are so versatile, talented and creative and they all have amazing personalities as well. As some others said, the bass has his own channel worth checking into but please react to more VoicePlay. They never disappoint! ❤

All the big a cappella groups are super-talented, but VoicePlay just hits different. One of the best things about them is that there is no single song that defines their style, nor do they confine themselves to any particular genre. Some of their songs are silly, others will make you cry; some will make you want to dance. You'll hear trap beats incorporated into classical compositions, or maybe soul rhythms inserted into classic rock- nothing is off limits if it works for the music. And these guys are 100% independent artists, and responsible for nearly every aspect of the production of their videos and music. For example, this song was arranged by Geoff Castellucci (the bass vocalist), who was also responsible for the video conception, direction and editing, and it was filmed in the video production studio owned by Layne Stein (the beatboxer/violinist, who takes turns with Geoff doing the music/video work). The rock tenor in the center, Eli (rhymes with 'jelly') Jacobson does their lighting work (as well as video special effects and backgrounds, as well as sometimes taking a turn on the video and arrangements). Rather than suggesting songs, I generally just advise reactors to just pick whichever songs on VoicePlay's channel appeal to them, because there is not a bad choice in the bunch. The unfettered creativity that they have the liberty to pursue allows them to take risks that other groups won't, and they have the skills to pull them off. I promise, this rabbithole may be deep, but it's one of the best rides you'll ever take.

Their newest song, MJ's "the way you make me feel" is another they really focused on the voices... but they do all sorts of styles.

Big fan of VoicePlay. #TheatreKidsOfACapella. From Metallica to Disney and everything in-between. Geoff Castellucci the bass has his own channel where he does low bass covers. They or Geoff have never disappointed. Geoff has close to a five octave range. Enjoy the ride that is VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci.

I discovered VoicePlay a little over three years ago and think they are a phenomenal group of talented individuals. Geoff (bass) and Layne (beatboxer, and violinist on this song) have been singing together since they met in middle school and have also known Eli (pronounced 'Ellie' not EE-lie), the 'rock tenor' in the middle in this video since high school. J None (between Geoff and Eli) was a VoicePlay member, but left about three years ago when he was recruited by the US Navy for their choir. But he returns quite often to feature with the group. Wait until you get to see Cesar (in between Eli and Layne) shine in another video, you don't begin to see/hear the spectacular emotion and sass that man can deliver when he's unleashed. VoicePlay has traditionally been a five man group, but have been down a group member for quite a while now, so you typically will see them billed as VoicePlay plus a 'featured' singer filling in.
Now, if there were 'just' these great singers, it would be amazing enough. But, they do almost all of their own arrangements. This one was done by Geoff, for years he and Layne were doing all of the arranging, but Eli is now sharing duty on that as well, on top of his being the lighting maestro for their videos. Whoever does the arrangement is in charge of the direction, costuming, set design and visuals for the video as well.
Hope you will check out more VoicePlay and some of Geoff's solo work!

Welcome! Appreciated your reaction. If you want another minimal beatbox performance - one that will break your heart with the beauty & emotion of their voices - listen to their cover of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me." But if you want to see their incredibly silly side, watch their latest drop, Classical Chaos. (An original medley of classical music that they've created a story line for... think Fantasia.)

2:59 LOL, yes, meet Mr. "deep tones" - Geoff Castellucci, who also has his own solo channel. I love VioLayne but beatboxer Layne can provide amazing percussion, sing a sweet baritone (or bass if needed) and also play violin. Just an insanely talented bunch

Welcome to the wonderful world of VoicePlay. They are by far my favorite of the acapella groups. Geoff Castellucci (the bass) has his own channel. I have subscribed to see more VoicePlay and Geoff Castellucci reactions. They are so talented, you can't go wrong with any song you choose.
My favorite VoicePlay song would be Valhalla Calling, but 'Dream On', 'Creep', 'Hellfire', 'Classical Chaos', 'The Way You Make Me Feel', 'Seven Nation Army', 'The Dragonborn Comes', 'Black Hole Sun', 'Hoist The Colors', and 'Drunken Sailor' are all great as well.
For Geoff, I would recommend: 'Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold', 'I See Fire', 'Unshaken', 'Don't Mess Around with Jim', '16 Tons' and 'Ain't No Sunshine', but anything you choose will be great.

Hello from Tennessee! I think you will find Voiceplay fascinating! If you want to hear something crazy, go listen to their Valhalla Calling. It features more complicated beatboxing (it was arranged by the beatboxer, Layne, IIRC), Geoff Castellucci (bass) being a human earthquake, Ellie (bald tenor) being a rock god, Cesar (baritone with all that hair) getting so into the part you start worrying about him becoming a Viking berserker, and J. None . . . well, you'll see. In addition, Geoff Castellucci has his own channel, where he does non-acapella covers by recording himself multiple times. (And let's not lie, here: I've got a crush on Geoff, you've got a crush on Geoff, everyone has a crush of Geoff, that's just how it works.) I am personally really blown away by Sound of Silence and Over the Misty Mountains Cold (yes, all those guys are him), but you really can't go wrong if something catches your eye. Dive in and have fun and welcome to the madness!

This video caught the attention of the iconic band Chicago and got these guys an invitation to perform with them in concert last year. There are literally no bad VoicePlay songs or videos. Anything you pick is well worth a watch, but some of my favorites (that cover a wide variety of styles, genres and group lineups) are Hoist the Colours, the Greatest Showman Medley, Queen in Five Minutes, Valhalla Calling, the Moana Medley, Creep, Just Sing, Man in the MIrror, and The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

Definitely continue down the Voiceplay rabbit hole....but feel free to explore the bass's Geoff Castellucci's solo channel. For your next Voiceplay reaction I would suggest "My Mother Told Me" or perhaps "The Wicked Medley" for a first reaction to Geoff's solo channel I would suggest his cover of the Beatles' "Blackbird".
    Enjoy the journey.

Welcome to the VoicePlay family!! Great song choice for your introduction. Everyone notices Geoff (pronounced Jeff) first. He is affectionately known as the gateway drug to Voiceplay, and he arranged this piece. Next to him is J. None, the feature and a former full-time member. J. Sings for the Navy and returns as a guest. In the middle is Eli (pronounced ELLIE) who is the bald high tenor and also does lighting and stage design and arranges some pieces. 2nd from right is Cesar, an incredibly smooth baritone who can also cover tenor 1 parts. And finally on the far right is Layne (VioLayne) who does the masterful beatboxing, also sings sporadically, a concert violinist, and he arranges half their releases. You're in for a mind-blowing and fun ride down the Voiceplay rabbit hole!! You would love Voiceplay's version of Hoist The Colours, Hellfire, Valhalla Calling, Classical Chaos, Dragonborn Comes...just to get you started. Enjoy!!

VoicePlay is the oldest of the 3 big a cappella groups (including Pentatonix and Home Free); they formed right out of high school in the mid-to-late 90s as 4:2:Five, and changed their name to VoicePlay in 2012, just before they competed on the 4th season of The Sing-Off (which Home Free won). The bass singer, Geoff Castellucci and the beatboxer (and violin player), Layne Stein, are the two remaining founding members, but tenor Eli (rhymes with jelly, bald man in the middle) Jacobson has been with them since before the name change. The 4th permanent member is Cesar de la Rosa, who was between Eli and Layne in this arrangement
While nominally a 5-man group, due to some personnel changes over the years they are currently down to 4 permanent members. They have been using a "featured artist" to fill out their numbers to 5 people for several years.
The 5th person here was J. None, a former member of VoicePlay who left a few years ago when he was recruited by the US Navy to sing in one of their choirs. He is a frequent guest in both their full length videos, and the shorts/minis that they put out several times a year.
This video is something of an anomaly, because it included a musical instrument (Layne's violin, which earned him the nickname #VoiLayne). This was only the 2nd time that the violin has made an appearance in their songs (it has since made a 3rd), all of their other work is strictly a cappella.
VoicePlay are known as "the theater kids of a cappella" because a number of their videos will include sets, costumes, makeup, etc. - essentially you get a little piece of musical theater with those videos. While not every video goes that route (as this one didn't), it does happen fairly often, and makes them extremely entertaining to watch. And virtually ALL of the work is done by the members and a few close friends and allies - lighting, costumes, sets (Layne is part owner with a production house with another former member, Tony Wakim), even cameras sometimes. They control every bit of their music and videos themselves - no label, not even a manager.
The VoicePlay rabbit hole is very deep, but I think you'll enjoy exploring it!

Welcome to the Voiceplay Rabbit Hole. It's a wild ride diwn but so worth it.
This song shows off their vocal talents along with being one of only three times Layne (aka VioLyne) has brought out his violin (he's been playing since he was 4). The other two are Warrior (an oldersong with J None and Earl who have both left the group) and the Lion Sleeps Tonight (a perfect example of them just having fun)
Voiceplay is also known as the Theater Kids of Accapella and their newest release Classical Chaos, a sequel to their In the Hall of the Mountain King, are perfect examples of their theatrical side.
Thanks for the reaction 😊 hope to see more from you. And don't forget to check out Geoff's Solo Channel (low bass covers) for another wild Rabbit Hole 😁

I don't normally get into a cappella that much, but VoicePlay are special. I've heard them described as the Theater Kids of a cappella; they do like to dress up for the parts. The deep bass singer whom was obviously affecting you is Geoff Castelucci, and he's also got his own channel with his own Deep Bass Covers.

I discovered Geoff Castellucci (fabulous bass) nearly 3 yrs ago when he was doing Monster Mash for the upcoming Halloween. It was my first RUclips foray into music and it was amazing. I went looking for more and found that Geoff was a member of VoicePlay so I did Hoist the Colours and Dragonborn Comes Skyrim. I've been hooked ever since. The guys have been doing this 27 yrs, they've worked in Orlando, FL for Disney, Universal and others over the years. Working with the theme parks has gotten them the moniker of The Theatre Kids of A Capella. Working with audiences, costuming, makeup, arrangement, camera work, lighting and more gave the finished video something a bit beyond the norm. They wanted to keep the creativity among themselves and not have managing companies tell them what to do. They do it all in house themselves. There are still 2 original members from back in middle and high school and that is Geoff and Layne Stein (began as the baritone and when their beatboxer, Scott Porter left for an acting career, Layne opted for taking over the beatboxing. You can see Scott with the group from nearly 3 yrs ago with them doing the Halo theme. You'll also get to see photos of them when they were just starting. Eli the bald guy with a high rock tenor came on in 2010, J None (beside Geoff) was a member until the US Navy recruited him for their chorus. J comes back when he can (see him on his first trip back in Friends On The Other Side). Cesar (beside Layne) is the most recent member and has a beautiful voice and runs from low baritone to high tenor. See his audition with VoicePlay doing We're Good. Another original member was Earl Elkins (can see him in VoicePlay's Queen in 5 Minutes) who left for personal reasons just before J None went into the Navy, so VoicePlay really needed at least one more person which is how they got Cesar. The 5th slot is a guest vocalist (have lots of people they've worked with in the past that they can call on which gives them a lot of flexibility). Geoff and Layne usually swap responsibility for that month's project, like Geoff did the work for Nothing Else Matters, Layne did it for In The Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Eli has done a couple, Creep is astounding, and should be getting ready to step in more often. He is in charge of all the lighting, CGI and more. Welcome to rabbit hole!

This is my favourite Geoff (bass for VP) arrangement. My favourite Layne (beatboxer for VP - also affectionately known as VioLayne) arrangement is "In the Air tonight" (Phil Collins), but the joy of VP is that they have an insanely wide genre range - and you can pick your genre or your mood and choose a song - they will never disappoint. They are fully independent so they follow their own creative direction. They do everything from arrangement to video - they only hire in help where they do not have all the skills (like complex make-up). This is one bus you do not want to miss! 🌹🕊

Voiceplay to me are the better group of the three groups. The effort and patience they put in make them stand out. As they are independent, they can choose what they want to do, and they never disappoint. Their discography is large and diverse. From Disney to rock and everything in between. I personally love their cover of in the air tonight. So much so that it has replaced the original in my playlist. I have subscribed in anticipation of more Voiceplay and subsequently Geoff Castellucci who has his own solo channel. 😃 ps. I am from a small village in the middle of Thetford forest,Norfolk 🇬🇧
