- The noon newscast on January 19, 1994 from WJW-TV, Cleveland. Hopkins airport dropped to -20°F, establishing a brand new, all-time record low for the city. Then morning news anchor Debbie Kern donated her orange "to science" to show how quickly it would freeze. Other items included a banana (that was able to drive a nail into a board), a slice of pecan pie and several glasses of water which froze solid in 30 minutes.
"Pee can" pie. Love it!
Some people say "puh cahn" pie.😂
I just found out you just retired! Congratulations!🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
watching this on January 19, 2017 and it's 40° lol
I was a bike messenger downtown that day; 6 out of 30 of us showed up. It was never above zero before noon when we all hung it up. It was just warm about then at -3 degrees for the snow to start melting on the road, which in turn made the slush stick to our chain and freewheel. When we came out of a building 2 minutes after going in, our drive-train was completely frozen. We had to pick the ice off to ride...that lasted about half an hour. That was it!
I remember that winter, I was going to school, had to get up around 5am every morning and then drive over an hour. In fact, it was so cold that January we had to hang blankets on the front door because their was ice forming on the window from the inside.
woww hahha, -20 coldest ever? it didn't rise above -26 F here today...
At 3:06, what does the M mean below "Deadhorse?" The other cities have values.
M=Muerte. That means 'death' in Spanish. Duuuuuh!
In NWS terms, M means “missing value.” The equipment must not have been working.
"I'm not going to tell you not to go outside..."
