ive watched SO MANY VIDEOS on how to get this up and running and you're the only person that mentioned the Linux subsystem for windows.. Thank you so much!
There are five billion tutorials on how to configure a Raspberry Pi. They are all the same and BAD ! They assume that everyone already knows everything and only show the configuration, not what to connect and how. This is the only tutorial on the internet showing everything step by step. From the things you need, through connection, to installation. WELL DONE. THANKS !!!
Thank you - this helped a lot!!! here are some annotations which hopefully help some others :) I had to reboot my raspberrypi to be visible with a devicename in the wifi settings on Windows you need to generate ssh keys and move the private key into the boot folder of the microSD card otherwise ssh devicename won't let you in in case your raspi config is not found it is not installed ( it was not on my raspberry pi os 32-bit) so execute sudo apt-install raspi-config and execute it with sudo raspi-config in general be careful using sudo as a root, but you will know what you are doing. vnc viewer worked perfectly well on Windows 10
PING and SSH are available in the current version of Windows 10. SSH may have to be activated via "Turn Windows Features On". PING may be default install.
Really nice, thanks. I got lucky choosing this video first from the search. I haven't even got my pi yet but this video covered exactly how I want to use it so thanks.
As a user from windows and after 3 frustrating hours trying to install debian into a pi3 and seeing I have no sudo command installed , i see this video . Now interesting points about the linux experience : a) The hidden menu Ctrl shift X in raspberry installer why is it hidden ? It might help a person like me be able to get that sudo command ..b) why oh why would debiaan not fit a raspberry pi3 linux distro without sudo command , how can I program my wifi to work to upgrade ? It feels like insane torture . Patience is super low at moment.
Why did you mention you needed a linux box to ssh into the pi? Powershell can do it perfectly fine fron windows 10/11. PuTTy is also a great option as well.
Hi, I followed your instructions on my Mac using the latest imaging package, I can see my raspberry pi zero w on my network but it will not let me ping or ssh into it. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I got all the way thru your tutorial but when I got to the point of entering a password I cannot enter anything. Do I absolutely need the Linux for Windows 10? I was able to "ping" the pi and also able to use the "ssh", but it literally will not allow me to type anything for a password. It's like my keyboard has been disabled. Don't understand why. Can you help me please.
I have question related to this topic. I have rPi 4 on the pole which is in failed state, not responding. I need to boot it up again, but I won't be climbing to reach it physically. I have the IP address, it's in the same network, I can connnect via putty. I have dovnloaded the rPi image and ubuntu image. Is there any way to boot Ubuntu on it remote and headless?
Hello thanks for such an amazing video this is super helpful. Would you know how to download VNC viewer on MAC OS I am struggling to install it since it says corrupt file whenever I try...
I’m stuck at inputting the password for the raspberry pi on the terminal, It is not showing the password while I type and I put in raspberry but it didn’t grant me access
When typing the password it is never echoed back for security reasons so you have to be 100% accurate when typing it in. This includes making sure CAPS LOCK is off if you are using the default password.
can't you use ssh from powershell? installing WSL just for ssh connection is a bit of an overkill, don't you think? getting putty would much faster. also the `sudo su -` is not something you want to advise to any user
@@veroxsity2336 since it's very bad practice to just run everything with elevated permissions. If you need a specific command to run with elevated permission, use sudo just for that one
I followed the video and did all the commands you showed and when you did the LS command that was the first hint that you did not have a new install as there was more content in the home directory. The next clue was when I rebooted with VNC enabled it had the error "cannot display desktop". Being new to the Raspberry Pi what would you add to the video so it boots and the GUI can be seen with the VNC connection?
The "new" part referred to how we set it up using Raspberry Pi imager as opposed to a third party flashing tool like etcher and NOOBS. The headless part just refers to type of setup.

Excellent! For someone who doesnt want to buy monitor keyboard and mouse, its a great alternative. Thank you data slayer!

Hi, so what if the password - "raspberry", doesn't work, what is the other alternative or how do i go about finding the password
Excellent tutorial, Thank you!! It helped me to install OS on my raspberry pi. SSH option is helpful.
I wish you were my teacher in my IT class, you're so good at teaching!
Thank you sir.

thank you so much bro. this worked like a charm on mac.
Great tutorial - had me up and running in no time.
Super tip with the hidden menu, I didn't know that one :)
Very Very straightforward Tutorial. Thank You so much for this.
Very clear and useful. Thanks.

how to do that via powershell?
I think My problem is my router is 5g, so how am I supposed to do this?
Is there a video to show me how to set it up from smart tvs?
Not that I'm aware of but you would just use the HDMI cable to use your tv as monitor by toggling the input/source.
It says cannot currently show the desktop for some reason on realvnc
grat i love this much simplier and works faster
I'm trying to set up my pi but I'm stuck on it connecting to my wifi, should I restart from the beginning
SSH and Ping are native to Windows, no need to download Linux Sub System!
Hi, I followed your instructions on my Mac using the latest imaging package, I can see my raspberry pi zero w on my network but it will not let me ping or ssh into it. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Edit! I keep getting “Unknown host”
are you doing this on linux terminal? can we do the same steps and command with MacOS terminal?
how to do this without an SD card and use the on board storage?

Your keyboard does work and no you dont need the subsystem, its just a safety feature to not show what is being typed out :)
@@moonlmg4087please at that point I typed in “raspberry” as the password but it didn’t work
Great video! Thanks.
16:52 Could you go through how to do that? (VNC over Windows' Remote Desktop Connection)
you should add configuration of eth0 as not everyone uses wifi.
Good point.
FYI, I'm using Window 11 and PowerShell works and rest of tutorial still works

The problem is that i can not connect raspberry pi to wifi network because there are no keyboard to enter pass of wifi.
When I connect my Raspberry Pi with ssh it is saying connection reset. What did I made wrong?
thanks for this idea
my Computer asked me for the public key. what to do?

when i try to download rpi imager it wont let me, says virus detected :(((((
what do i do if it refuses to connect to the wifi. or rather im not seeing any evidence of it.

What do you write in the password section when configuring wifi if your network is passwordless?
Leave blank?
as you type the password, it stays blank. So he probably typed raspberry, you just couldn't see it.
does it have to be sd card

Great info but that music, just can't stand it anymore!!! 😂
You look almost exactly like Ryan Reynolds🤣
You really should incase your pi to protect it from dust and other things. Besides it will look better in this video.
Done!

I for the life of me can not get pass the ssh password… he says “raspberry” is it but I keep getting denied. Any help ?

Hi, I am confused on authenticating to VNC am I supposed to create an account or how do I know what user and pass to enter at 15:01? thank you!
VNC credentials are the same as SSH. You do need to download the VNC client (Real VNC Viewer)
where's the like button?
Raspberry Pi is basically Linux in Windows use Cmd ssh or use putty
CTRL + SHIFT + X
Naa I am on windows. I just use Putty. None of this linux rubbish LOL
Clickbait.
"Headless" is as old as the Internet. Get out. Headless is only "new" if you are a total noob.
The "new" part referred to how we set it up using Raspberry Pi imager as opposed to a third party flashing tool like etcher and NOOBS. The headless part just refers to type of setup.

You *DON'T* need: *"sudo su -"* just enter *"sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade"*

Can this be done on an older pi that doesn’t have Wifi by adding a usb Wifi dongle? Does it need configuration on the initial sd card setup?
