I used to utterly depend on Alt Shift X’s GoT vids back in the day. Found Quin about 3 years ago when I was wanting to know more about Dune stuff, but had only read the first book, since that day, ive read every Dune book from father and son. To see you two collaborating on this was the best surprise. Keep it up yall 🫡
I found Quinn after seeing the first film, a week before the second came out. I watched the film because the algorithm - over and over - had Uncle Schwifty’s Dune Part I video. And one day I finally paid attention. I saw the movie, then put “Dune” into search and Quinn showed up! With his masterpiece videos and beautiful readings and I have been hooked ever since.
I came from the asoiaf community. From David Lightbringer found Quinn. I don't even know when I saw my first Alt Shift X video... But when a saw Raised By Wolves I followed his analysis after every episode! A dreamteam indeed!
ASX and QI are two of my all-time favorite RUclips channels. So glad you've both been present on each of these discussions. Would love to see more collabs, you two feel so natural together!
My introduction to the Dune Universe was through Quinn. Listening to the God Emperor of Dune audiobook felt weird because his voice just IS Leto II's voice in my mind. He should totally work with Audible. I'd listen to anything Quinn narrates.
Maybe the lack of effort from the fashion distinctions in the lansrad scene can be explained by how early this new Empire is, just 2 generation post-butlerian jihad, they’re just holding their ground as a human-ruling Powerhouse, their wealth is at its infant stage, even the Corrina house are not yet established as a noble house compared to for example house Richoses. 2 generations removed from the warriors that won the war, at its infant stages of its human-only empire
Good explanation, I considered that too. But even different nations have far more diversity in fashion/culture than what we saw, and it was logistically feasible imo to make it happen. Christ, just tell the actors, “here are your different wardrobe options, make yer own costume for this scene” if wardrobe ppl don’t have the manpower.
All I know is you were the prophet bringing Dune out years ago and I should have listened more. Im beyond depth into all the symbolism and just glorious ways this story and productions are unfolding.
The best part is when at the council when she gives her family a voice... its quickly taken and said by another and the least they expected. It was a great element to show how the prophecy or the "plans within plans" end up the same road. The pride was their family downfall and her worst enemy. Also she gave her house the mother superior and yet he had no voice at the council. It was a triple slap. Bc as much as the voice is her power. She had none, her family still had none.
I agree highly on the boring styling. The dune movies were so beautifully styled with the Rick Owen’s and northern African influences that made it unique
Found you this month because I was looking for some insightful Dune knowledge based on the episodes and happy to see you collaborating with Alt Shift X, been watching him since Game of Thrones
If they knew about him I think Desmond would have. If the face dancer was a she, its stated that no female thelaxu has ever been seen, as they are all used as tanks. But i wonder that if it predates that time this may be the first iterations of face dancers and maybe not all females are axolotle tanks.
And they are mixing up things, like how do they have space folding already , or at least safe passage, Nora hasn't been mentioned, all that came during and after the machine wars.
Didn't it say it was thousands of years like 5000 before muadib, that should put us at the start of the jihad against machines, however it seems like they've already outlawed thinking machines
Well Facedancers can become anyone it is possible this facedancers has simply found it prefers existing as a woman, which we do see at the very end of Frank Herbert's series

Which would probably make them wear something like uniform.
Yes and also probably loss of major factory and textile products bc lack of machines. I appreciate your explanation on this bc I could not find the right words.
Lila’s not pre-born or anything, just under-trained. So she may still be able to exercise some control over the dominant personalities, given time. Plus Raquella’s still in there; generally benevolent and sympathetic to their cause
it occurs to me that even 200 years after Bulterian Jihad there may still be small disruptive "evolved soldier" cymeks and or collaborater humans about...
> Why not a remote control drone? Well, humans in the show are 10k years back in evolution compared to humans in the movie. Maybe they don't yet have reflexes necessary to remote control a drone through vents. Alternatively, no way Emperor's palace or, at least, the council chamber doesn't have jammers to disable remote control.
Quinn, I’ve read all the Dune books and couldn’t reconcile Daniel and Marty until it dawned on me that facedancers are likely cyborgs with mechanisms that change their organic shape.
The Face Dancer is Theodosia. In the ep where Valya told her to go with her to Salusa, Theodosia asked Valya if she is aware of her "condition", which Valya of course was.
I have a feeling that the facedancer is much older than the sisters. They never found a place to belong. And having a complicated relationship with Valya being master and apprentice at the same time. If I am not mistaken the muscle control for face dancing comes from Prana Bindu. Theodosia excelled in the fighting scenes and was worried about her "apprentice in the art" while questioning if Valya was ready to fight the attack. Maybe Theodosia is the origin of martial arts in the sisterhood or an evolutionary leap in its application. After all, face dancers depend on Prana Bindu to exist. Rewatching the last episode scenes, I got this feeling that Valya is the master on the sisterhood but Theodosia on Prana Bindu. Theodosia advanced abilities could come from them being a natural or prototype face dancer, much of what was included later were mechanisms of control by the Bene Theilax rewriting theis DNA. All of these gives meaning to Theodosia’s goodbye as Griffin as a last sweet gesture for the woman who gave her a place and also her apprentice. A simple kindness. I really love that the series is, imo, showing the origin of certain elements of Franks books. The box test is to not surrender to Desmond burning attack. A sister should die before betraying the order. The litany of fear should come from Tula dealing with what is happening with the younger sisters. Lyla is almost certain the origin of the aberration fear. And I worry that Desmond would be the blueprint for the kwisatz haderach but including a lot of Harkonen blood. After all even House Atreides was full of HK blood in the end. This could be Valya end game, creating a hk savior. The plan passed on over many Reverend Mothers. If Desmond is Voryan, Paul would a HK with the abilities the machines coded on Voryan. This would be a change in the breeding plan. But I noticed that although there are Reverend Mothers with other memories, they didn’t pass the memories of the previous one before death. Maybe Valya will start this. This last one I am not so sure if you check the actions and consequences of each sister. Valya speaks louder, complains, and calls attention to her. But Tula does a lot more, in a much more discrete way. I wouldn’t be sad if Tula is considered the good one after using Valya as a scape goat in the end.
I really got the postapocalyptic feeling. Especially in the flashback. It is almost like the middle ages or even hunter gatherer stuff. And this is the nobility or like planet kings. Imagine what the common people's life's are like... And the difference in the Harkoonen quaters in just 30 years is extreme.
Maybe the Atreides was only reenacting ancient hunting rituals, and then they whent back to their super luxurious palace, and lived in total decadence the rest of the year, but we don't see any of that. So I think the Atreides are supposed to be consciously living closer to nature, pushing themselves to be the best they can be. The rituals also crates a sense of community, a sense of a clan. That even if you are not blood related to the Atreides, you are Atreides. The dancing in a circle chanting also creates a sense om group with no hierarchy. Even if the lord is the lord he is in some sense ecual to the common people, just performing a different task. I think this carries somthing on to the time of Letho I and Paul.
Thankyou for everything you do, Quinn. You really held my hand & helped guide me to wrap my head around the Duniverse. Couldn’t of got this far without your help 🫡
I am only 15 minutes in, so forgive me if this comes up. Is anyone else getting Terminator vibes? That is, Leto has somehow reached out through time and created Desmond Hart in order to strengthen the Sisterhood and ensure his own creation. I have just been getting this vibe the whole series. I hope this is not the case.
I haven’t heard anyone mention this but this last episode set the stage for the Bene Geserit ‘Litany Against Fear origin. I’m willing to bet that the next episode will have a scene where the acolytes are instructed through the Mantra. There was heavy foreshadowing for it.
I love these discussions (they're more entertaining than the show itself LOL), but something annoying is going on with Altshiftx's audio, it's constantly transitioning between I can barely understand and my ears hurt. Yours is consistent though so maybe it's some setting with the voice call software?
My hope is the blue eyes are a reference to both Leto II and the intelligent Ixian hunter-seekers shown in one of his prescient visions in the books. For instance, the girls' visions could be showing two hunter-seekers set up to look like the God Emperor's blue-within-blue eyes, thereby foreshadowing both the Tyrant and the threat to humanity that he was trying to prevent with the Golden Path.
Another good question. If Desmond is a faithful Tleilaxu (which is a possibility) and Theodosia is a faithful Tleilaxu (which can be true as well), what are the odds of them working together against the Sisterhood? Is there a chance Theo stabs Valya in the back in the right moment?
I’m still confused on what was the purpose of the shape shifting at the end?? It was a cool reveal but what did it accomplish, was it literally just for Valya to feel like she got closure with her brother?
That choice was a bit weird, but yeah, was Theo’s proof of concept I think. Her way to say I’ll do it even though I said I’d never do it again, and the scene was obviously there to demonstrate to the audience that she was some kind of face dancer.
@luckyplvys well, a nice explanation is Theo decided to comfort Valya. A dark explanation is Theo the Tleilaxu manipulating Valya and getting closer to her to deliver a perfect stab in the back.
Shift’s audio is still bad this episode. Really hard to listen to. I think it’s something on Quinn’s end and how he’s recording it. Shift usually has amazing audio
So, my predictions for the ending of the series: 1. Sisterhood will get a beatdown. They got way too obviously powerful. They need to be forced to go into shadows. 2. Tleilaxu sperm doesn't talk. They won't be able to figure out what Desmond is. But they'll get a new goal for the Sisterhood: 10000 year program to breed someone like Desmond to be able to look into those blue eyes.
I think the trauma shows in the Emperor alot bc hes humble and he doesnt overreach, his wife does and makes him... whilst his kids are out if control. The emperor only feels his worth from outwardly factors at this time and he shows alot of a traumatized individual. He's more codependent and also was attempting to marry into that type of House. I think its done purposely bc he feels out of control and not seen beyond anything but a pawn for everyone and peace has become his purpose to the point where he is abused.
I think the blue eyes are Paul because he was yelling something about .. when you stare into the abyss, I’ll be staring back at you.. something like that.
The Face Dancers in 10,000 years will be neither. At this point, who knows? She might be an escaped Tleilaxu female, and they’re already being experimented on. We know that they’ll eventually be reduced to axolotl tanks, so it’s not a huge leap.
I tent to side with Quinn in thinking that the eyes are robotic but I think it’d be really cool if it was the god emperor reaching back through time subtly influencing events somehow. One example I can think of is having the god emperor be the reason Paul’s first son died. Just a thought 🤷♂️
I definitely think its played down to be more universal and unified as a humanity point where people are brought back to basic principles and a facade of simplicity to talents of the races and people versus the lavished things AI produced. However we see their kids and younger adults all bringing in the dark many things, drugs, sex, etc.... how the girl with the veils and then behind their veils is the realistic thing. I bet as trade and things come more and we are introduced to other houses we will see the changes in wardrobe and sets.... right now they are using their own planets resources too. if you see though Valya does change alot in her wardrobe despite same color but styles depending on where she is.
at 53:10 when discussing the rebels overall plan and how it seems like a plan for children. They way I interpret their story is that its completely the idea of the bene G. and they're just easily influenced men that they we're able to convince to go thro with the plot. But overall the idea is to keep checks and balance for the Bene G. Create a problem and a solution so you constantly prove your worth to the imperium. Aslong as you become the problem solvers they become more like the thinking machines of old.
Am I crazy for thinking Dune, especially everything past children of dune, should be an anime? All the internal monologues would be badass animated. Just imagine the God emperor narrating a whole episode of his trips through memory. (As im writing this shift says the exact thing im writing)
I think he left the blood bc he realizes the power isnt the bloodlines or in blood. Its the spirit that came afterwards that brings life. Spirit of hope and revival.
The blue eyes. Is it possible that it's representing the looking backward archiving of Leto using a Dictatel to record the history on ridulian crystal paper?
Cool thought, hadn’t considered that. I think we all want every ominous prescient vision to be Leto II related tho, since he’s the coolest char in the series (possibly all sci-fi). If the series decides to touch directly on the Omnius stuff, I hope they lean more towards Frank Herbert’s vague description of the threat, and not his son’s interpretation, which I feel kind of misses the mark.
Valya is the true shapeshifter here and its without any pain. Its a juxtaposition of the values of that face you put on or off... and what lies in the heart. The true shapeshifter still values love and the faith... and she shows love and sacrifice. Where as Valya justifys her sacrifice. I think she also had a deeper rooted plan to use theodoca and this was not her plan originally.... also maybe Theodoca has a deeper sinister plot using the weakness and emotions to later manipulate her place higher.
I feel regarding the sisterhood they arent pawns yet.... definitely they treat people like pawns in the movies. To me its important to understand the sisterhood had true intentions still and faith. Especially the 2 sisters and their own inner conflicts. I think the struggle for power against losing their place as the strongest religious value is what truly will take their values voided to play all as pawns. The values are still there but as their sisterhood and house is divided it won't stand. Also the younger sisterhood is calling for the true values.
I'm still of the belief that Jen/Jin was lying about not having the dream. While we see Emiline cut her own throat, who is the one that wakes up right after that happens? Jen. Also when she jumps awake, the very first thing she does is grab her throat like all the other sleeping sisters. I'm not sure why she would lie, maybe because she doesn't trust the BG? But I definitely believe Jen had the same dream as the other acolytes.
The eyes are Agamenom. If you look at the source of the Paternal line of the Atreides who do you have to go through? Vorian and Agamenom. Boom blue mechanical eyes.
@Meep-0424 sure he is. But his house? The sister hood sees all their dead female ancestors? If the Atreides run and rearrange humanity through infinity, would you not see the Agamenom peering back at you? Are the worms truly biological or are they nano tech.
Why Landsraad meetings are conducted in person rather than by communications? I don't remember any mention of distant communication between worlds in the original series of books. Messages are "sent" but that is achieved by couriers carrying information in physical forms. If so, the business of the Landsraad would be cumbersome and expensive (maybe making it only possible for major houses) and entirely dependent on the services of the Spacing Guild. That would fit the generally feudal society that the Imperium exemplifies?
Also, nobody in the landsraad mentions, well, he was just a kid, why not interrogate and punish the dad that bought the thinking machine toy for him, and then kill the sellers. I see it as less of a “gotcha” moment, tho this’s likely just the writing
So if abomination is wrong and something that shouldn't be to the BG, would they actually help Lila in her situation? By the time Leto and Ghanima were adolescent, Jessica genuinely found them disturbing and didn't like being around them or speaking to them or something. Would they even keep Lila near them or would they banish her or something? That's harsh but they are cutthroat like that.
Maybe over the course of 10k years the connection to high technology decreased. Not all knowledge runs in a linear fashion. Especially of there were planetary or galactic isolation shaped by who the guild would allot travel to.
Lets not be in denial here. The show's world building is very bad. Casting choices is all over the places (english pub accents) coatimes are inconsistent, they look like cosplay, sets are basic, and the almost no existent grandour or space(small interiors etc). They need to sort these things out.
Could be be a cymek? What if that video he showed the emperor was fake all along???? Am i the only one who really really wants to know what he is? Sorry lol love dune but driving me crazy. Want to know....thank you for this live stream. Can thinking machines bleed?
Well also in terms otherwise not Desmond as a cyborg... its the "holy spirit" as it runs as electricity and feels like waves. Spirits run in electrical systems too in many poltergeist ways and opens the spirit realm. Or the higher vibrational beings and monks, tones etc.... especially with the drumming and sounds from worms. Makes sense he has a spiritual realm type of vibration.
The show has extreme pacing issues. We have gotten 2 episodes worth of content in 4 episodes. Why is everything so drawn out and milked nowadays?

Did they mention the name "Bene Gesserit" in the show? It is always sisterhood or truthsayer. Sisterhood of what? The witches of Rossak or the Bene gesserit.

@luckyplvys well, a nice explanation is Theo decided to comfort Valya.
A dark explanation is Theo the Tleilaxu manipulating Valya and getting closer to her to deliver a perfect stab in the back.
Hey, yes we have read all the books!
Shift’s audio is still bad this episode. Really hard to listen to. I think it’s something on Quinn’s end and how he’s recording it. Shift usually has amazing audio
Spicy sisterhood strikes again...
So, my predictions for the ending of the series:
Or perhaps he's a defect or has a mutation. Or if they try to mix his DNA it is more of a disease that overpowers another genes
I think the blue eyes are Paul because he was yelling something about .. when you stare into the abyss, I’ll be staring back at you.. something like that.
tleilaxu girls are axolotl tanks at some point? was the bene g lady rescued before or ?
Face dancers are neither male nor female.
The Face Dancers in 10,000 years will be neither. At this point, who knows? She might be an escaped Tleilaxu female, and they’re already being experimented on. We know that they’ll eventually be reduced to axolotl tanks, so it’s not a huge leap.
@@QuinnsIdeas would be a kind of proto-facedancer no?
Am I the only one that is worried this show will ruin the chance for adapting the dune sequels (minus Messiah of course bc its already being made)?
The movie ALIEN was better than the book.
at 53:10 when discussing the rebels overall plan and how it seems like a plan for children.
Yo, the religious cover was created by the machine god who knew thats the easiest way he could convince them!
Machine "God"🤷🏽♂️
Doretea through Lila could be giving these visions
Eyes of god? Shai halud? What if the thinking machines mixed with the worms? Who is really desmond hart?
desmond seems like some kind of sardaukar founding figure more so than anything else
1:05:40 the security forces interrogated the captured rebels to learn everything
Do you think sister Avila is up to anything? She was with Doretea's group as a younger woman
The Emperor and Constantine main plot point is to be useless, unintelligent, pawns. It’s really disappointing.
The blue glowing eyes have to be Leto's. If you notice they are 2 shades of blue, and they're in a giant worm so what else could that be.
But he’s….dead
What if its Daniel and Marty? Dont they watch humanity in the end of the books? They use the net on the no ship?
I'd assume it's the Arafel that didn't happen because Bene Gesserit created the Tyrant who prevented the Arafel.
What if there is a message in Desmounds blood and he wants Valya to run it through the machine?
SQL injection through blood.
Cool!
Man..isn't listening to new Shift thoughts one of the best things ?
Great discussion.
Uhhhh, refering to Desmond as Bashar is another hint at Vorian, who was Supreme Bashar until that rank was abolished during the early empire!
the breeding index is an Ai now remember - so Letoii is a thinking machine threat. _JC
15:50 absolutely likes like Leto
Thing is from the first episode it’s likey Desmond Hart was known of by the Emperor
Maybe over the course of 10k years the connection to high technology decreased. Not all knowledge runs in a linear fashion. Especially of there were planetary or galactic isolation shaped by who the guild would allot travel to.
Quinn do you think maybe the noise with the blue eyes, could be like the saudukar throat singing?
Lets not be in denial here. The show's world building is very bad. Casting choices is all over the places (english pub accents) coatimes are inconsistent, they look like cosplay, sets are basic, and the almost no existent grandour or space(small interiors etc). They need to sort these things out.
Question: If the police captured the plot co-conspirators, why why was the Atreides swordmaster not denounced under torture?
1:49:40 quinn is the voice for the god emperor
Please invite Secrets of Dune channel to be a guest on one of your lives re Dune Prophecy discussions. Thanks
I think the Ixian and the facedancer are fanservice.
This alt-shif-x guy sound alots like alt-swichf-x
It’d be nice if you guys were just a bit louder imo
The show has extreme pacing issues. We have gotten 2 episodes worth of content in 4 episodes. Why is everything so drawn out and milked nowadays?
Did they mention the name "Bene Gesserit" in the show? It is always sisterhood or truthsayer. Sisterhood of what? The witches of Rossak or the Bene gesserit.
