  • Since our shed is a repo, it has lots of extra screw and nail holes in the siding. All of these hole are potential entry for water. Plenty of work to do! This was an easy fix to help protect our siding for years to come.

    Hi Ashly. This is Crystal. How you doing have not seen you on for a bit. Did you get to sell your home yet so you can stay all the time at your farm and you can work on your shed to home all the time. I know you have a full time job and it is hard to do a lot of stuff after work. I hope with in two years you can be in your new place. You have a good night and a good day at work.

      Hey! We have been working so hard to get things done on our home so we can get it on the market, that we haven’t had time to work at the property. We are finally close the the finish line and working everyday after work and on the weekends. The transition phase is a lot of work but it will be worth it! We will definitely make a before and after video of our current house when we sell it, because this place has taught us so much! It gave us the basics to take on the shed to house conversion. Thank you for checking on us, you’re so kind ❤️ hope you have a wonderful day!

    Consider using stain instead of paint ! I put T1-11 on my house & garage over 30 yrs. ago & used a good stain & it still looks new. Good job dealing it up .👍👍

    • @Carolina12GA
      @Carolina12GA 3 года назад +1

      What kind of stain can you use on T11?

    • @robertrhodes9123
      @robertrhodes9123 3 года назад +1

      @@Carolina12GA Hi. The reason I suggested stain over paint is stain does not chip, peel or crack like paint. So if you ever need or want to recoat there is no prep work like scraping or sanding. You will want an exterior (all in one ) stain plus sealer. There is regular stain or a solid color stain. You probably want a solid color stain which allows you to choose what ever color you want. You start with a neutral base & have what ever color you choose mixed in. There are different brands so it's kind of get what ever is a convenient place for you to get it (lowes, home depot or local hardware store as long as they can mix it ). Any other questions I'd be glad to help if I can. Good luck !😊😊

    • @CountryRootsFarm
      @CountryRootsFarm  3 года назад +2

      Wow! 30 years and it still looks new is amazing!! Since our siding has already been painted in the past, we can’t stain it, right? Otherwise that would have been a great option!

    • @robertrhodes9123
      @robertrhodes9123 3 года назад +1

      @@CountryRootsFarm Yes, you can use a solid color stain over paint as long as there is no chips, blisters or loose flaky areas. If there is you will have to scrape or sand to remove any loose stuff. A wire brush is great for getting rid of loose areas.

    I am not sure what part of the country ya'll are in. I am in the south. But I was thinking a low cost ac would be a buried pipe, with a fan forcing the air to the hot building. I have had these building for work shops and in the past they have been hot. Just a thought

    • @outdoorlife5396
      @outdoorlife5396 3 года назад +1

      @@CountryRootsFarm It shouldn't, you use solid pipes, not like a french drain. You go down 3 feet or so. Like digging a fruit cellar. I would think a fan is like a pump, it can push a lot better than it can pull. Funny I am in NC. I am looking a chill out cabin in the western mtns. It was one of the things I was looking into for off grid cooling. I was thinking with land, I would come out less than a tiny house, although I do like some of there storage and layouts.

    Not to be nosey, but what kind of money would I be talking about doing a shed to house? I was thinking about doing that, a tiny home is off the hook. I have seen them anywhere from 50 to 100K without the land. What are you suggestions, I am thinking like a hunting/fishing cabin for family hang outs. Thank you

    • @CountryRootsFarm
      @CountryRootsFarm  3 года назад +1

      No nosey at all! We’ve been sharing how much things have cost along the way. Before getting started, that was a big question for me too.
      We went shed shopping many many times before finding this one as a repo. It was a goal to try to find a used one, since there is a huge savings.
      We paid $10,000 for our building including delivery and blocking. The same building new is a little over $22,000.
      We also plan to do everything we can ourselves so that will reduce the cost. And we go to auctions for tools and supplies. You might can even find builder auctions in your area! The last one we went to, we got all new, solid wood, soft close cabinets for our current kitchen for $2,400. We had already priced the cabinets and had $7,000 -$10,000 quotes for new cabinets that weren’t as nice as the cabinets we found at the auction! They also had wall panelling at the auction that sold for 50 cents a sheet!! I couldn’t believe it! We didn’t have our building yet so we didn’t buy it but the same paneling is at home depot and Lowe’s is over $20 a sheet!
      I guess the point it, I think the cost will depend on what and how you want to spend. Shopping around and in some unusually places (including Facebook marketplace) can really stretch your dollar! And after working so hard to make it, I like to make the dollar stretch 😊
