Excellent tutorial - thanks! So nice to find actual tutorials that explain everything, rather than the all-too-common, so-called 'tutorials' that are just speed art and which don't explain anything and don't help in any way whatsoever. I look forward to working my way through the rest of your uploads 👍
Welcome back everyone, I know you guys love logo designs on this channel, and today we look at using the shape builder tool with a few gradient tricks, enjoy! 👌
I just recently got the Adobe CC subscription and been watching your videos for using the new additions since AI 6.0. The shape builder tool will come in handy since I've mainly used the pathfinder tool to cut out shapes or add shapes.
wow! you called me by name. :D hahaha, i'll always watch your vids Tom. I mean, theyre such easy to understand instructions anyone can do :D you are a gift :) stay awesooooome!
a gift you say!? lol I do try and make my content easy to follow and I feel that is one reason why many people watch. Have a pleasant evening, I am heading out for some munch
Then select the object or shape and go up to object>path>simplify Also, you can literally remove anchor points manually by going to object>path>remove anchor points
Great Video Bro! How do you think? Is it good way to use graidents on logo designing? Because most deisgners think Graident is not useful because of printing process. (Actually I like Gradient)
nice :D that gradient trick will help :) Would it have the same effect if instead of using 3 layers I only use the one with the gradient but adding a darker and a brighter color at the end? so i have a gradient with 4 colors. Thx for the video!
The reason to do it this way is that if you add many gradient colours on one layer, you will often get banding (lines along the gradient) and you can control highlights and shadows a lot better with multiple gradients :)
Pls in the future write that it is a tutorial for illustrator cc and not cs6! that's a huge difference!!! cs6 doesn't have features like cc. I spent watching this video just to realize that cs6 cannot connect shapes all at once
uhhh. this tutorial wasn't helpful. when i use the shape builder tool. i tried to mimick your combination, but everytime i do this, it overlaps one another and the shapebuilder tool shapes i made wasn't exact with yours...
I also had the same trouble, everything was overlapping and i could not see most of the rectangle. Then I realised that I had my colour fill on, and for this to work the colour fill needs to be turned off ( the red diagonal line on the colour square). That resolved my problem.
Great tutorial. I'm self taught through RUclips and this is going into my kit bag. Thanks
That's awesome to hear Ryan, and glad that you find my content of use bro 👍
2 min and I follow u because u show all the short cuts.
Was searching for someone like this soooooo long.

This is a great tutorial. Things you can learn in this tutorial are: Rectangle Tool, Ellipse Tool, Hotkeys, Shape Builder Tool, Gradients, and more.
Wow. That was amazing. I've been trying to figure out how to blend the color better when I use gradients so you dont see the color line.
Yeah if you add multiple strokes with 0% opacity on one end, you can make some really smooth blends. Thanks for the comment!
thank you for the tutorial, I primarily use Photoshop and am rather inexperienced with Illustrator, so this is very helpful
5:20 WOOOOAHH THAT WAS EPICCC LET ME TRYYYY

That is great to heat Aqeel, enjoy your day

can use for commercial purpose
How to reduce anchor points? Shape builder tool leaves lots of anchor points. Especially if I using golden ratio technique. 😄😁
Then select the object or shape and go up to object>path>simplify
Also, you can literally remove anchor points manually by going to object>path>remove anchor points
position your objects properly, use grids or snapping to geometry, if you are getting extra anchor points it means you are not doing it right
think you tom i have A question for you When Used (ctr + f and ctr+f) Do top copy grade or not
If you press ctr + c and then ctr + f, you will copy the top layer and then paste a duplicate exactly over the top
great
ccool
Thank you,,,,
thank you for the comment!

Your ai cc version?
that's a lot of trouble, you can just add more colors to the same gradient bar, also wouldn't be fitting for printing process or just organized file

Hello Brother
Hey dude, hope your weekend was all good? First comment gets the PIN! :P
Yes it was great ! what about you ?
it was ok, HOT weather though. My day off is Wednesday, I worked a lot of the weekend lol
Here in Pakistan yesterday was PSL final and guess what my team won :D
Sweet! Did you do anything to celebrate? Congratulations :P
Pls in the future write that it is a tutorial for illustrator cc and not cs6! that's a huge difference!!! cs6 doesn't have features like cc. I spent watching this video just to realize that cs6 cannot connect shapes all at once
I use cs6 and I connect shapes with shapebuilder tool
uhhh. this tutorial wasn't helpful. when i use the shape builder tool. i tried to mimick your combination, but everytime i do this, it overlaps one another and the shapebuilder tool shapes i made wasn't exact with yours...
It was pretty helpful actually it worked for me, you just need to play around with it more and line everything up or use a grid in the background.
I also had the same trouble, everything was overlapping and i could not see most of the rectangle. Then I realised that I had my colour fill on, and for this to work the colour fill needs to be turned off ( the red diagonal line on the colour square). That resolved my problem.
This is so confusing
I've had 4 Ads interrupt this tutorial...
Why you don't use centimeters? The people don't measure the things in real life in pixels.
I do not say: "I am 10 thousand pixels tall".
