I had no idea there were so many books in this series! The only Karen Slaughter book I've ever read is Pretty Girls and it was crazy but compelling. Great discussion!

She found something that worked and stuck with it lol. Pretty Girls wasn't my favorite of hers, but I love her writing style. The Will Trent series is definitely a little less over the top.

@@AlexBlackReads Have you watched the Will Trent TV series? It has 13 episodes and has been renewed for Season 2 for 2024.
I warn you the characters are a bit different, Will, Amanda and Faith have been changed, they merged Sara Linton with Angie's character. I think they did this because they weren't confident in the success of the series and wanted Will to have a more successful relationship and softening Angie's tragic story with Sara's more nurturing side seemed more palatable for network tv. And why start with Will Trent Atlanta series over the Jeffrey Tolliver Grant County? Will Trent seems more progressive than the traditional ol' boy Jeffrey Tolliver.

@@suezcontours6653 I have not seen it. I saw the trailers for it when it was first announced and I do really enjoy cop shows, but it was just too different from the books. I'd probably like it as its own thing, but I don't think I'd be able to separate it from the books in my mind. Like combining Sara and Angie is an absolutely wild choice imo lol. And it bugged me how they turned his dyslexia into like a magic ability almost (or at least it was portrayed that way in the trailers- like Psych or Monk). Because in the books it was handled so well. It also looked way lighter in tone. I'm sure it's well done, but I think I would hate it just because of the constant comparisons.

@@AlexBlackReads I expected that of they were to adapt her books, they'd go over to HBO and be rated 16SVL. But onve you get over the changes, it becomes quite nice as the actors really make these characters their own. Mark Paul Gosselaar make 4 great guest appearances amd episode 12 and 13 do an amazing homage to Criminal and Cop Town. Keep in mind we might never get the Grant County adaption with Sara Linton and Jeffrey. Softening Lena for the network that it's on has its benefits

@@suezcontours6653 Glad you enjoy it! I do think I'd probably love it if I hadn't read the books, but I really don't think I could get past that enough to give it a fair chance lol

I'm watching the TV show of Will Trent and so far it's very good . The main character, and the lady cops are very well acted and written. Love Betty the little dog Will couldn't give up. Its got a lot of pathos regarding his relationship with Angie Pulaski, it's exceptional in how the two are deeply in love but have a lot of tragedy in their collective pasts. I hate hearing how much abuse foster care homes/their own parents inflicted on them though. I believe if foster parents weren't paid, and instead voluntarily( with vetting, lots of vetting,) took in kids, and by law had to keep them for at least 5 years, then the obvious blatant abuse of kids wouldn't happen. Betty the dog and Angie's character are the only ones Will has any thought or love towards. That Betty has sometimes literally stolen the scenes in Will Trent.

Aw I'm so glad you're enjoying the show! From what I've seen, it sounds so wildly different from the books and I'm not sure I'll be watching it. Based on the previews, the books are a lot darker and grittier and more unpleasant (but in an enjoyable way lol). Definitely a lot of heartbreak in both, though!
Are the characters in the show likeable? That's something I've been so curious about because the whole point of the books to me is that they're all kind of the worst and I didn't get that vibe from the previews. Like Angie in the books is so abusive and awful. It's kind of weird to hear how differently everyone is portrayed! I'm sure it's still wonderful, though. Just very different.

can We read her book "fallen" & "Criminal" without reading previous ones?

Yes, definitely! You will get minor spoilers for character growth and personal relationships that carry over from book to book, but each one can function basically as a standalone. The individual cases are very self contained.
