I love my 940, too. I've used it for everything from battoning through logs for a wood stove (not recommended, I know...) to stirring coffee when i couldn't find a clean spoon.
Not sure I'd advocate batoning over fidgeting on a 940 but it is a strong blade. You may have better luck with s30v than s90v for uses like that though.

I bought my 940 several years ago, I'm a bit of a collector of knives. I carried the 940 for about a week and used it very lightly. It's been in my knife box ever since. A lot of people might think of that as a sin, but I have a bunch of knives, and I wanted to keep my 940 in pristine condition, and it is. Most of my knives are users, and my Civivi knives are the most used. I have a Sencut Watauga and a Civivi McKenna (both in D2) in my pocket right now and have used both today. Good video today, I appreciate you. Thanks

Enjoyed listening to your take on the 940. I own 4 versions . My favorite is the Blade HQ version in M4. My favorite reasons are some of yours, shape, blade length, weight, and how smooth opening and closing one handed.
My Benchmade 940 Osborne arrived today and I haven’t been able to put it down since I opened the box and opened the knife - it’s an amazing knife. This is gonna live in my pocket for weeks and weeks..!!!
I’ve been embracing the #useyourshit movement for a while now. I love seeing what my knives are capable of handling. Sharpening them only helps me make a better opinion of what I like or don’t like about them. Good video Erica thanks for sharing and have a great day!!
This is why I like super stainless blades. In Florida it’s not the abuse that will kill your blade first - it’s the corrosion. I’ve pretty much cycled my entire collection out for Vanax, LC200N, and Magnacut. It took me a hot minute and it was expensive but I never think “damn I’ll have to clean my knife when I get home” when I spend a day near the water or get caught in the rain.
Love this knife, still find it a riot, I asked about if the 940 was the Osborne..... Meanwhile my dumb ass needed to look at my box. To my defense, I had just gotten it as a birthday gift, and missed that small detail :-) Another great video. Thank you so much as always dear!
One great part of that knife is that if you ever need to send it back, Benchmade is amazing on how they will change worn or broken parts and tune it as well as their Knife Sharp lifetime warranty is great! I love Benchmades. It just irks me how many are fakes though!
I've had a 9400 (940 auto version) for a few years and really love it. It's incredibly light and pocjetable for how much blade it packs. Plus, like you, I love the colors. I honed my blade sharp enough that I shaved your mom's mustache while she was asleep and didn't wake her or the gimp up! Brilliant knife.
It’s interesting… you show a lot of knives, test them, comment on them, etc… but that 940 pops up again at just the right time, every time. Well played, Truth Teller. 😀❤️
These knives look best when they are weathered ! They are meant to be hard use, not safe Queens. I finally picked one up and now I totally get it. Best all around hard use edc.
Many moons ago when I was a young lad before I knew anything about knives, I came across a Benchmade 940 my roommate had. We both worked in a liquor store. I recalled thinking how unusual the knife was and thought it was probably some gimmick flea market knife. I found it too long of a blade to wield to cut open boxes. A box cutter always worked better than any pocket knife. It never occurred to me to use the 940 as a pry tool as I did not want to damage my roommate's knife. I do not recall the knife being very sharp. With that said, today I sorta understand the design. As much as I would like to own one today, I find myself not liking Benchmade's pricing.
I got my 940 back in 2020 just after they were released. The 1st 4 years I had it was the last 4 years I was in the Army and it was used for everything you could ever imagine. I carried it for several years after I retired and was working emergency management and search and rescue but when I retired from that, my wife used it one day and I have only been able to put my hands on it since to sharpen it for her. It is truely the best folder I have ever owned. Now go out and "use your shit".
The Gersh custom magnacut blades are pretty sweet for the 940. It's like having a thin, slicey Spyderco Delica k390 blade that's stainless on a 940. The s30v is probably a perfect general steel, too.. After you sharpen away the burnt Benchmade factory edge.
