The U.S. Supreme Court Weighs in on Nursing Home Residents’ Rights

- Few lawsuits make it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. However, one brought by the family of Gorgi Talevski did just that-and they won! The Talevski case decision is important in that it addresses the rights of nursing home residents, their ability to sue a state run (publicly owned) nursing home, and addresses the importance of the Nursing Home Reform Act in establishing the standard of care.

Ms. Gyamfi authored an amicus curiae, or friend of the court, brief on behalf of AARP and several other groups, including Consumer Voice. Ms. Edelman authored an amicus brief addressing the background and history of the Nursing Home Reform Act. I am glad this come across my page, I watched alot of your videos and I see I am going to move forward with my case. I am fighting for my rights rights now being in a nursing home and I wish ya'll can contact me and help guide me on what I need to do.Isent emails to my Sen. even to the President and VPb as well as even about my Ombudsman who failed me and I just talked to my State Health Dept, Wed. I want to get everyone I can to talk to me before they find a reason to kick me out. I try to voice it out and keep it in public eye and the only difference I have going for me is video cameras up in my room. Pics I took and detailed records and outside drs. PLS, if someone is reading contact me. If it wasnt for me being cognative and having my own voice I think I would have been kicked out. Its just a matter of time, I have no one or any place to go if they do....
