- Adrian outdid himself by making an already memorable solo even more so with a few little changes that work surprisingly well live.
This is my take on his updated solo. It's not note for note as he changes it slightly from one night to the next, but I wanted to do a fully live take, without planning every single note, all while keeping all of the main ideas and licks intact.

I started following Iron Maiden in 1980 and it's a strange thing to think that back in the early 80s when Adrian joined the band, everyone saw Dave Murray as one of the best guitarists in the world, while Adrian was seen much more as a support act. How times have changed! The thing is, Dave seems to largely play what he did in the 80s, whereas Adrian has completely transformed himself. He incorporates far more techniques now and his solos are also far more ambitious. He's a very complete player. I like all the guitarists in Maiden, but Adrian stands out as one of the most complete guitarists I've ever heard. His stuff is mesmerising and there really should be courses available where players can study his style and approach. I love Gary Moore and Michael Schenker, both of whom have been massive influences on Adrian, but I rank Adrian as right up alongside these greats. I also have a real thing for the playing of Carlos Santana, but Adrian just has it all and he is undoubtedly my favourite player in the world.

When Adrian joined all Dave did was the debut album in which he was far away from showing any skills to get him to a place like the “best guitarist in the world”

What I can say as a fan ( and a drummer , not a guitarist, because I may not know any better) is I feel Adrian is still coming up with very fresh stuff. So many years and so many solos to have to write and each one still fits each song like it belonged there as its destiny. I've said it before that I am a fan who loves this version of Iron Maiden more than the one 35 years ago as each one of them has just gotten stronger and better as Journeymen. Adrian and Bruce have been my two favorites since POM so any offerings from them are special to me and they help keep the band more dynamic while still being Iron Maiden. Cheers ! Up The Irons!

@@LicksOfTheBeast I can only wish I had your positive mind set mate! :) Maybe you could also create a video about the reasons why Maiden do not not create the twin (triple) guitar melodies like they used to. I think I remember Steve saying -back in the day- that harmonies were taken off from Afraid to shoot strangers as it sounded too happy...or something!

excellent work. unfortunately this is one song that the studio version is far superior because Dave doesn't play his lick during the chorus and janick doesn't play the outro - both of which combine really well during the last chorus.
