I played this music to my 85-year-old. She was sleeping in the hospital and nursing home . When I went back to see her, she was sitting in her wheelchair ,there's my oldest daughter, called out my name. I was so happy and blessed that she remembered everything ❤️. Played Johnny Taylor and dancing in the streets New Orleans music 🎶. She was moving her head side way. She asked for more ice water from dehydrated for almost a month or more. ❤ She is talking. Those are memories of a better time and a awkward kid learning the ways of life thru some of the greatest black singers and colorful characters of our neighborhoods!! I loved this song the minute I heard it on the radio in 1973. I went out & bought it as soon as I saved enough of my allowance. Seems like I remember you could get a 45 rpm single for about 45 cents. I was probably the only white girl in my school who'd bought this record, but I didn't care, because I knew good music when I heard it. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for rhythm & blues, & this song is a classic. Of course, I love Johnnie Taylor's soulful voice, but I also love it when the female backup singers come in - like icing on a cake.
I use to listen to this when I was at home with my mother. I turned 60 this year and still listings to it now. I look at it like this it doesn't matter who the artist is, you like the music and sounds and it makes you happy ENJOY IT. THEY DON'T MAKE MUSIC LIKE THIS ANYMORE.
I love this song, JOHNNIE TAYLOR. The verse of your “mother said loving me made no sense, but, when n she put me down you stood up for me”.I have to say the exact incident happened to me. My mom tried to stop me from the one that I loved but I said I couldn’t because I believed in us.
If the music you listen to the most doesn’t invoke you to think and feel deeply about yourself.....your life....to face what reality is for you and inspire you to be your best and overcome all adversity......then that explains why you might be lost and confused about yourself. Music like this song and or what is massively referred to as “real music”, was predominantly produced in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s because one of the reasons, it was practical to learn how to play an instrument, especially becoming a self taught instrumentalist. The devotion to producing, creating and making music was greater than the desire for fame and money, these artists put their heart and soul into being the best and created volumes of timeless, priceless music, so vast that it seems like they completed what music is and ‘should be’, it’s not old school, or whatever category the industry wants to label it.......no it’s simply what music is suppose to be, why, because it’s The Best of humwoman expression musically, the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and some 90’s......and a little bit of 2000’s. That’s my perspective.
I Truely believe One's Music Tells a lot about their Character. This Music was very Educational and Soothing Inspiring It did a lot for You.Im a Lifetime fan.

Never get Olds keep on going
I have very clear memories of this song from the Summer of 1973. The words. The music. The feeling. That time is gone forever but this song too will live on forever…
OMG, I wish those days could come again. This generation don't have music like we did!!!
Those were the sweetest and best time to be a part of. I love this song and the greatest memories of my life. I truly appreciate our time. The Absolute Best Of All Times.
10 .4 you took the words out my mouth 1973 summer

I thought I was the only one that thought this!
Wish I had stood up to my mom I would not
Yes!!!!
That what you do when someone incorrectly to the one you ❤.
I love this song by Johnnie Taylor, especially when he says , when you go up against your own mother.
Creole Lady sometimes we mothers are wrong!!!!!!!
Yess indeed

Girl, now that's true real love. Cause you don't ever go up against your own mother, noooo not Mama.🥰🥰🥰🥰
I feel sorry for anyone who don't have someone they can call their own. WOW that touch my soul every time
Johnnie, is one of my favorite soul singers and in my top 5 greatest soul singers to ever touch a microphone, he is so underated, and its a shame they don't put this man in the rock and roll hall of fame
But they put Dion in ! I reside in Cleveland, but it's because of such blatant dissing of African artists that I will never go.
Diane Clay you sound stupid.
Great Point sad and shameful but they done put in plenty rappers
Oh you making me miss my father he loved Johnny Taylor
LOOK HERE....I remember back in the 70s especially during summer months, sitting on our front porch with my parents and a few neighbors laughing, talking and sipping with the blues/rnb soul blasting in the background. That's how I was introduced to this style of music by my parents playing JOHNNIE TAYLOR, JOE SIMON, JOE TEX, TYRONE DAVIS, LITTLE MILTON, LATIMORE and MILLIE JACKSON......❤OLD SCHOOL FUN❤...70s
Do I Remember This Song And That when The Good OldDays

He was the real deal
He said "Anytime you go against your own mother, It makes me know you believe in me" .... Whewwww If those aren't some the most true words!!!!
Yes, especially because sometimes as mothers “We can be wrong “!
@@gloriarollins8306 yes because my mom was wrong about my husband, but in no time she
had won him over so much you couldn't tell her that wasn't her son. Now 38 years later
we still good, No body goes harder for us than us.💕

Facts girl
I’m loving his music l been listening to him since he made this song
Can’t help but live in the past when I hear great songs like this.
Who's still listening to this 2023 as I am
I'd rather live in the past as far as music goes , cause these days I don't know what there emotions are and they are our music to our songs for some of the rhythms. That's foul I don't like the music out they have these days. I'm with you on that I stay in my music from back then .take care memory are precious.
