Whitney my mentor.... You are one of a kind among the hygienist i came across in my entire school days.... In fact there are things i got to learn from you which i was not thought in school. So it's a blessing indeed having you in DH cadre... I salute ya
I had a great opportunity to be a dental assistant for a family friend's dental office. I was wondering for someone who has 0 experience whatsoever in that field is it still doable to learn the process and the procedures with no background?
It’s so cool seeing the organization of the different instruments in a dental office! In my optometry office it’s not nearly as in depth lol, but you’re dealing with 2 little organs and the skin around it so I guess it makes sense? Very cool to see how it all works though! I have a random question, how old were you when you became a RDH?
Thank you for watching!!! I love organization :) I got my bachelors first and graduated at 22 and then my dental hygiene degree after at 24. Hope that helps!
Do you do daily spore testing and what about class 5 strips in the sterilizing pouch? We also have containers with lids that we transport our instruments to and from the operatory.
Yes!!! We do spore testing and we do routine maintenance on the autoclave. The containers to transport instruments to and from the operatory is something we are now implementing!!! So great!
Hi, I wanted to ask a really quick question about flossing (I would've phoned my dentist's office but they are closed because ya know corona). When are you supposed to floss? Before or after brushing? I usually floss after I brush but I was reading a couple articles that suggest that it's better to do it before you brush. Thanks again in advance for the advice!
Totally a good question. There are articles that say both ways...so my general advice is as long as you are both brushing and flossing you are doing the right thing - the order does not matter as much. If you want to get SUPER technical...some cavity-prone-patients may benefit from brushing first (the thought is if you leave the fluoride toothpaste in your mouth after you brush - the floss or interdental aid will help the fluoride toothpaste enter the areas between the teeth). Hope this helps!
Question .. so when breaking down the room after barriers and instruments are out of the room... we have to clean and disinfect our room? So what do you use to clean the room and then afterwards what do you use to disinfect?
Hi Whitney I have a huge fear of the dentist is there anything I can do to ease my fear and also is it normal to have an extra tooth on the bottom or should I get it checked out. I am only 12 years old ❤️❤️have u got any suggestions for me ❤️❤️also some day I hope to be a hygienist like u but I think my fear has changed my mind. Amazing video as always and I love u so much ❤️❤️❤️
You need to find a dental supply company that sells quality products. There are certain perimeters that are needed to look for when purchasing autoclave pouches/bags.
Hi, I checked out your other video and learned you did schooling in chicago which is where i live and would like to stay! Can you please tell me what schools you went to for your dental hygiene portion? I have no clue where to go
First, we lubricate them and run them and then bag them and place into the autoclave. Always follow the manufacture's instructions on how to properly sterilize each individual hand piece. Hope this helps!
Oh yea. That is what we are talking Whitney!!! Amen to that!!! Peace,,,,,,, Love,,,,,, and teeth!!!! That’s dentist love babe as the song I have says in the name of dentistry!!!! Peace,,,,,,,,,, Love,,,,,,, and teeth,,,,,,, rock on sis!!!!
this video was pre-pandemic so not at that time. but now it is definitely recommended to wear all of the extra PPE and I love wearing my hair cap and face shield now :) also my loupes!
Every bag and autoclave will have different instructions. I am following the manufacture's instructions of my bags and autoclave. Different makes and models may differ as well so never assume without reading the instructions. Hope this helps :)

Hi Pauline,
You are only required to do spore testing weekly. SPS strips run in every load. *Keep your records for spore testing, 3 yrs.
I miss going to the dentist, just for a cleaning of course.
Great channel,I hope to be as good as you one day!You are awesome, this quarantine gave me the little push to start my channel 🤣

Instrument pouches are not supposed to be over lapping or else they won’t get sterile properly?
Amazing sterilization..
love watching your videos from INDIA❤️
THANK YOU so much for watching! And that's amazing I would love to visit India one day :)
I love ur energy tho 😆
Very large & spacious compared to my office!
Thank you!!
If you kept the instruments in the plastic tray used for the ultrasonic to autoclave them and never wrapped them, would you feel safe using them?
Really enjoying this series, thanks Whitney. What does "Op" mean?
Jeff Keith it’s short for operatory. It’s the room we bring patients to for their appointments.
Yep! Katie's got it! Op is short for operatory!
I just worked all day and come home and watch your videos 🤣 l guess l ❤️ my job, even after 25 years! SIU 1995👍

I just started as a sterile tech at dentistry office last week at $17/hr. Is that low pay?

Good Tuesday evening to you all from wellington Somerset in the UK
good Tuesday! happy you're here :)
how do u sterilize the ultrasound handle that goes into everyone's mouth?
Thanks for sharing! Where do you buy the sterilization pouches from?
You need to find a dental supply company that sells quality products. There are certain perimeters that are needed to look for when purchasing autoclave pouches/bags.

Do you ever rinse the ultrasonic solution off the instrument before packaging it?
yes! sorry if that wasn't shown in this video!
But you don't touch the outside of the sterilization bags with gloves because you want the outside to be clean
Totally! I always change to clean gloves before touching them! Thank you for watching :)
Wish we had a bigger sterilization area
How do you sterilize hand pieces??
First, we lubricate them and run them and then bag them and place into the autoclave. Always follow the manufacture's instructions on how to properly sterilize each individual hand piece. Hope this helps!
Unrelated: But your hair looks so healthy! Mildly distracted I was! LOL
this made me happy! haha thank you friend!
I love it
Where do the dentists store the shots?
How can I sterilize ? Or disinfect my manual toothbrush ? I hope I am asking this correct lol 😂

I believe your bagged instruments should go paper side DOWN. Check your autoclave manual
Every bag and autoclave will have different instructions. I am following the manufacture's instructions of my bags and autoclave. Different makes and models may differ as well so never assume without reading the instructions. Hope this helps :)
If someone wants to work as a sterilization tech and Is certified with their OSHA can they?
we manufacture sterilization baskets if you are interested in buying do let me know
how do you autoclave rubber and plastic materials?
depends on the individual product's instructions! but most are autoclavable on the top shelf! or they are disposable!
