Anybody who has thought about making the trip to Oregon to see the HK-1 (originally a joint venture between Hughes Aircraft and Kaiser (Liberty Ships) shipbuilding, Kaiser pulled out when the War ernded) should know this: for $25 up to a party of four can access the flight desk (with a Docent present to keep you from messing with anything) and the icing on the cake is they ahve the hat (replica) Hughes wore in the famous photo of the day he flew it! I have a photo of me channeling Howard with my hand on the eight throttles. I swear, I could see Long Beach Harbor ahead. the roar of those engines in my ears. Best damn $25 I ever spent! PS, because of the wood and the fact that a man could stand in the wing he had a man behind each engine with a fire bottle. It's really worth the trip. Then you can drive up to Seattle and tour the Boeing plant! Thanks for the great channel!

In the late 1970s , early 1980s , the Russian Government took the Aranaplane , on a world tour .
I saw it's departure from Auckland NZ . Quite an impressive sight as it headed north east , out of the Hauraki Gulf , trailing a dark trail of exhaust fumes behind it .
Then , my limited understanding of jet engines , is that they can use pretty much anything for fuel .
