Just got a Rebel 500 yesterday and was feeling a small pang of buyer's remorse for not getting a "big bike", but your comments about the interstate and encouraging to see the side roads washed that worry away!
@TheScrubmuffin69 LOL There is not that substantial difference in cost between the 500 and a manual 1100 rebel I own both You're going to regret the 500 in less than 3 months Trust me!! The wife hates her 500!!! Tried to tell her!
I loooove my 500 for my 1st bike.. I gunned it to about 108..and I was fine.the power wasn’t to much or to little it gave me just what I needed.…I will upgrade to an Indian scout bobber soon. But overall love the bike.
For around town a small bike is just fine but, for the interstate you want a 750 at least and 1000 preferably. The heavier bike on the open road sure helps with the comfort level.
@@ridingwithmarshall Is there point of diminishing returns when buying bike and what is it? For example if I go from 500cc to 1000cc I may pay double price but get only 50% improved performance? Thats what my actual question is like where is the point of diminishing returns with bikes? Would it be better to just buy 800 or 650 ccc compared to 500cc in same price range or is there any catch to it?
@@Manti-hi9ct You ask some excellent questions, the kind I often ask myself. In my experience, you pay up to 300% more to be able to go 10 miles per hour faster. The three things to balance are: What kind of weight do I want to deal with? More engine means more weight. 2. What kind of maintenance costs are associated with this bike (*cough* BMW ) 3. What creature comforts do I really want? Cruise? Adaptive Cruise? Heated grips? Heated seat? Smooth interstate riding? If you seldom venture outside of Miami, none of those items are needed. If you live where I do, ALL of them might be desired, with Cruise and heated grips on my personal must have list. Many go "whole hog" and get that BMW or Harley, and end up with a $700/mo payment, $500/yr insurance, $400/yr registration, and a bike that scares them to ride it. Others take a $8k Kawasaki KLR650 and ride it around the planet, paid off in a couple years. Start small, pick what's most comfortable to you, and only trade up when you know what you want. I ride the interstate daily, so I need cruise and 90mph passing capability. If I didn't, then a Versys 300 would be enough!
Suck it up and get the 1100 The difference in monthly payment is minimal. Its the freight, prep and other sales gimmicks that get added to the total price. Or... Buy a used 1100 1.5yrs old, low mileage for $7500 cash!! Edit There is NOT that much difference in weight and hbe seat height is the same on the 500 and 1100 at 27" high

NY 1100 doesn't evem do 108mph

Anything in the 600 or 650cc range would be wise to look at, like a used Ninja 650 or a Versys, or a Suzuki Vstrom

the ONLY thing I don't like about my Rebel is the gas tank. I wish I had a bigger gas tank.
Yep, that kept me from buying one two years ago. I already have a bike with a 120 mile range
