Years ago, I went into a DM store, bought a pair of boots. The girl took my picture to upload onto the DM Facebook. But because my shirt said “skinhead reggae” they never uploaded it. Doc martens has gone way south.
now this is what I WANT TO SEE... NOT a bunch of hipsters wearing docs.... Oi! Oi! Oi! to all the SKINS, PUNX and WORKING CLASS PEOPLE!
Shoes are shoes, people of different walks of life and subcultures wear Docs. Punks, Skins, goths, hipsters and several other groups. People have their own style and docs come in all shapes, sizes, colors and patterns.
Athalia lol you have all the best response's, these people swear they own this shoe,these shoes started as working boots!! They weren't made for skinheads or punks! I'm not a hipster,punk,skinhead,NOTHING, I am simply a person who wears what I want and happen to own about 7 pairs of docs, ahhh the freedom of the USA to own what I want,lol

In the early 1970`s we didn't have Docs ..... we wore 18 hole Bombadiers, army boots or steel toe capped work boots ..... still jeans and stay press tho.

I’ve been punk since the 80’s. My first pair was 1984, I’ve never worn any other docs than the 1490’s with white or yellow laces.

i'm no historian but if skinhead culture and fashion were started by lower class Jamaican immigrants how does Dr. Martens (as for the matter other expensive brands too) truly represent the skinhead culture?
skinhead began in the 60's, which had a very strong class system, much of which was identified by clothing. skinheads, (like teds before them) wore expensive, stylish, cutting edge clothing, to be, a class above, they didnt just wear the same as everyone else. Italian style suits, made of English mohair, the latest airwear boots, high quality hand made british brogues, american style button down shirts. listening to the latest imported music, ska and soul. Later on with punk, the image changed to become an aggressive statement, music styles changed, to raw , basic oi. the politics of the british working classes, interlinked, football hooliganism, its evolved, in many directions. too todays ebay skins, and a worldwide connection. but all are part. Some people get stuck in their little part, but for the 100's of 10000's of skinheads, over the years, its often been the best part of their lives, growing up, with the best music, style, friendships and experiences. that's what the skinhead reunion is about

people saved money for months to buy one piece of clothing. my first crombie cost £25. at the time i earned 90p per day, so i saved whatever i could, for that coat, and it made me feel a million dollars wearing it, :)

+Kee Hyun An Because many working class job's involve manual labor. If you are working in a factory floor or something labor intensive you need comfortable, durable, and protective shoes that are going to last a long time.
Spending that kind of money on Doc's or Grinder's makes perfect sense because it is much more expensive to constantly have to replace your shoes. Doc's used to be made in England and were very durable and comfortable.
