Feels more like a summary of the browser tool than a review tbh. I’d actually be really keen to get your opinion on this software versus other available options, if you’d ever consider doing it!

An important and extremely useful feature for the Team's integration with Microsoft Project Web is that all of your tenant users have read-only access to the Project info, so by putting the project in a Tab of your team, you can share your plan across your tenant if you want, without additional licensing implications (if you want someone to be able to update the plan, they will need a license).

Excellent video Matt! I liked how well you laid out the distinctions between the legacy Project Web App and newer Project offering in O365. Thank you for such a clear explanation.

thanks for the video - really helpful - I dont suppose you know how you can add in a numbering system - so every new Bucket /job has a number at the front ? 001 New job.... new bucket/job automatically adds the next number - 0002 Another Job. So users cannot add in a job without it having a specific number that cannot be duplicated ? hope that makes sense !

How does one change the default calendar in the projects info/details tab? allowing tasks to run into weekends, 7 day work week instead of 5 day...

Really useful video. Do the others you share a Project with also need a license or can you just have a license and they can see information?

These plans have a 'view only' option:
      Microsoft 365 F3 and Office 365 F3
      Office 365 E1
      Microsoft 365 for business
      Microsoft E3 and Office 365 E3
      Microsoft E5 and Office 365 E5
So if you have this already, you can view the projects and the roadmaps but not update them, without the need to buy a Project license.

Yes - but... this is only valid for internal Users within the tenant that the project plan is stored. You cannot share a Project-plan e.g. in a Team with external Users / Customers. You can‘t assign licenses to them so they can‘t even view the plans :(

Great explanation. The way I experienced project for web is similar to Planner and not more. Knowing the legacy project online, I don't understand how this could replace it. It is lacking almost all features that pwa had. Do you know what is the roadmap of this product and if there is any intention to provide it with more functionality?

@Collaboration Coach what would you recommend for resource management. For example looking the allocation of team members across different projects, does MS offer any tool for this?
I am not sure if a top-down solution is necessary but might be good in the future if the project office and project managers are interested.
For now a bottom-up solution would be sufficient, where individual tasks are summed up in respect to working hours (40h/week)/task duration/allocation. Heat map showing over-allocated resources would be a minimum. Dashboard for individual resources would be nice, as well as individual taks view or filtration per individual, but maybe not necessary.
I saw the Smartsheet a new feature called 10,000ft that seems promising, however something from MS would be preferable hence the question. Integration into Teams would also be welcomed.
    Thanks in advance!

No not really. They have the legacy Microsoft Project product but it's old and expensive.

Hey Matt! Thank you for the great video! I showed your video to my superiors and they seem to like the app, I only have to show them now, how can we be better with it. My only problem with the app, is that you cannot really comment, add files or remarks as you can do it in planner. Do you know any options if one can connect the task created in Projects to Planner so we can continue add files and remarks to the tasks?
    Thank you in advance!

Planner / Project integration is something that lots of people want but unfortunately it's not available yet.

The usage patterns are exactly like Planner, but with Gantt and dependency features.

For my projects, I actually use both Project Web and Planner at the same time (and wish they would integrate better). I put the overall plan and high level tasks in Microsoft Project, and manage that plan myself, as I am the only one on the team with the license. Other team members can see plan status and where we are overall though, since Microsoft gives everyone in the tenant view-only/read-only access. Then for lower level tasks that I want to assign to individual team member, I do that in Planner so they can update the status themselves. Through Planner task naming convention, I tie those tasks to one of the Project Web higher level tasks. Then on a daily or weekly basis, I can review the Planner task status, and use that to update the % complete on the higher level Project Level tasks. Like I said, I wish there was better integration built in so the Planner task updates could automatically flow into the % complete of the Project Web tasks, but the setup I have works well for our environment for the time being.

There is a planned integration for Project Sensors into Power Automate which could give the possibility to „sync“ Planner / Project tasks against. Some got it working for Project Online so far, since this has a „native“ Planner integration.

why microsoft creates so similiar apps, each having own advantages and disadvantages, when they can create just one Porject tool, with different levels of features depending on the type of licence you have, so it's all synced and in one system. I can't imagine all the works we are doing without Microsoft apps, but at the same time, all their apps comes with some ridiculous limitations which for me are just due company's fault, and not lack of technology. Why in hell you can't create a task that would repeat itself in PLanner when in TO DO you can do it easily. At the same time, why can't I comment in TO DO or Project Web, when in Planner you can. If MS copied Trello to make Planner, at least copy all the features and add extra , so at least you add something of your own.

It doesn’t seem like Microsoft project has financial management/modules? Or i might have just missed it? If it doesn’t, do you know any other pm software or integrations that we could use? Our projects are over $us1m in size so financial management, on top of task management are quite important. Thank you

    • @CollaborationCoach

The legacy version of Project, known as Project Online still has the financial management features and is still available. The new version known as 'Project' doesn't.

    • @CollaborationCoach
      @CollaborationCoach  3 года назад +1

Anyone can open the Project and view it in Teams. If you want them to make changes they must have a Project license. And when they have a Project license they can update the tasks and change things like % complete.
