This video teaches a lot about music in a very subtle way. By linking visuals to key changes in the music, you learn to train your ear to pick out the distinct parts of the music. They teach about vibrato (quick raising and lowering of pitch) by using wobbling things, portamento (gradual pitch movement) by using sliding things, and tremolo (volume variance) by using fading things. As a music maker myself, I find this to be very fascinating.
Their planet was nearing its end. Though they could not save themselves, there was still hope: Project Harmonic Voltage. By combining fiber optics with the ancient Heavy Light pyramid, they could send a distress signal throughout the universe: one last piece of music, from a dying planet of living instruments. The first part of the song told their history. The second part asked for help. But even if rescue never came, the third part was triumph, because this last song would play forever.
Curt Sly electronic music has a really bad reputation for being utter garbage most of the time, which is really sad because it doesn't have much to do with the actual genre but is treated as such. Animusic and Porter Robinson are proof that electronic music can be beautiful.
Curt Sly Slightly late, *cough* a whole year *cough* but seriously, most electronic music actually is SIGNIFICANTLY more emotional than other forms of music. Take My Heart by different heaven and eh!de for example. Although it might not sound extremely emotional when you listen to it first, if you look up a piano cover/synthesia tutorial on it, you can see just how much emotion is poured into every note. Just because instruments are different than the norm, doesn’t mean an entire genre is crap. ;) Also look up scary monsters and nice sprites by skrillex. Got it? Good. Now look up a piano cover. Even SKRILLEX and his dubstep has emotion poured into it, which I never realized until I actually started going deeper into electronic music and dubstep. Electronic - 1 Pop - 0 :)
SquiDragon when you said scary monsters and nice sprites, the first thing that came to mind was vinesauce and the amazing midi version of that song... and Thomas the Train’s face
Over 10 years ago I had my first car accident. I was blaring this song on the car stereo when I hit a snow drift and went off the road. This song made the experience E.P.I.C. Ps. slow down on snowy roads
Saw this on a late night PBS commercial 12 or more years ago. Remembered the melody and typed in “CGI robots playing instruments” and found it. I’m still looking for Animusic in 2020. It must be a classic.
Ha, what's funny is that now it's gained a whole damn fanbase. Could you imagine that? Also, I bet you didn't know that Animusic was made by THREE people on the support of their loved ones. It's whacky to hear, you'd think that this would've been made by a whole team. Plus, there's a whole lot of remakes and original concepts made for Animusic. It's insanity to see how much it went up. Only a few people knew this at first, now it's spread throughout schools and is actually a CLASSIC for most people. Sad to know that some people forget about it but still have it as a glimpse of their memories, still trying to find it to this day.
when i was little i used to imagine that this was telling a story, the purple laser and the red laser were taking turns playing with the drums but since the red music always sounded better, the red one was more fun than the purple, and the purple was trying to get as good as the red, but then a green laser interrupts and enslaves the drums and makes them play cymbals, but then the purple comes in and defeats the green laser and the red one congratulates the purple with an overly dramatic and long congratulatory song
OMG and LOL!! You sound like this is ancient history. Weren't most of these made between 5 and 8 years ago? IMO I think ALL music (except maybe most of hip-hop and gangster rap) tells a story or at least a sad or happy one without violence and foul language.
stralien51 It was made in 2001, and I was born in 2000, so I find things from the early 2000s nostalgic like this. Also, a song can have foul language and still be good. It might not tell a story, but it can be funny, like any song by Ylvis.
This song made me cry as a little girl. Back in 2008. I'm not sure why. I remember so clearly sitting on the carpeted floor in the music room with the lights off, sitting surrounded by my classmates, and just silently crying. There's something so painfully sad and lonely about this song. But so determined to keep going, or something like that. The desire to keep on living. Music really does describe feelings that language cannot.
deadmau5 does some INCREDIBLE harmonic and borderline symphonic stuff. Drop the Poptart, Imaginary Friends, Arcadia, Creep, Right This Second, I Remember, etc. Or the intro to Fn Pig... 🫨🥰

LOL!! It's probably Tesla's work that inspired this and that's been over 100 years ago. Fascinating, but unfortunately terribly sad that one of the greatest innovators of all time became an object of ridicule.
stralien51 thankfully people are starting to know his work more, shame someone wanted to destroy his lab though, maybe we would have had hovering cars by now.
You took the words right out of my fingers. I was about to say the same thing. God bless you, Nikola Tesla. the world is a better place because of you and would have been even better if J.P. Morgan was not so greedy.
I wish tesla had been born perhaps thirty years later. we would benefit so much more from his genius mind and he would get the credit that he deserves, not only as a decent human being overcoming a gambling addiction from his college days, but also as a creative genius who almost harnessed the power to talk to space before space was a real concern of the world's.
Nitro Dubz Any kind of Electronic Music is fine to me. (relates to electronic music, dubstep and indie of course but a favorite artist? I guess yes) Skrillex.
My grandpa, who is gone now, showed me Animusic when I was very young probably over 20 years ago and I’ve loved them ever since. Brings back so many cherished memories 🥰😢
I guess I am not your typical 67 yo because I find this music to be just stunning. I love it. Love animation and love this kind of music. Wow. I'm blown away. A brilliant mind created these for sure. All of them. Thank you.
Well, this song is missing the typical 135-150 and 160-180 tempo ranges (it's 114 ish i think), 2-step bass and snare pattern, the bass wobble, and doesn't even have the optional dubbing of vocal samples, and was created before Dubstep was even a thing, but this was one of my first electronic songs too, and the first step towards my listening to dubtep as well. ^_^

There was a super chill comment on this video long ago that made me cry when I read it while listening to this. Something about a dying alien civilation and this was their call for help.

I'm sorry, but this song and features is just simply AMAZING!!! It gives me chills every time I see it, I watch it many times...it's just SO AMAZING!! My words can't even describe my thoughts on this. It's just PURE AMAZING!! I love it!
This might actually be one of the few laser based songs from animusic that is humanely possible to make, and have it look super similar to the animated version. Can't believe nobody has done a Tesla coil cover of this song yet.
I USED TO PLAY ALONG WITH THIS ON MY ELECTRIC KEYBOARD VIA THE DVD I LOANED FROM THE PUBLIC LIBRARY... ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER!🙏💖👍👌 THE ULTIMATE HEALING MUSIC, INDEED!
As a kid in elementary school, this was shown to my music elective in I think 2nd grade. I thought it was awesome… but because I was an idiot kid, I felt bad about the machine after the song because I thought it was doomed to float in space, never to play music again. As dumb as that sounds since it’s CGI, I truly believed it. I didn’t want that to be the case however and tried looking it up with no avail. Throughout the years, I was still trying to find this video, secretly hoping that I could see the space station play one more time - and as of yesterday, I finally found it. Currently I am about to turn 19, and even then I secretly believed that the space station was still alone in the depths of space, unreachable by any man, including myself…however I rediscovered this masterpiece and defied all odds. I will never get tired of this song, and the video will always have a special place in my heart.
This feels like a medley of three songs from a video game: one for the main menu theme, one for general gameplay, and one that's a remix of the main menu theme for the end credits.
When I was around 6 or 7, this music was my life. My older brother suffers from very extreme autism. He was very tricky to deal with, but all I can remember is that he loved this music. I never listened to it in school (I wish a had), my brother did. He loved it so much we brought him the DVD’s to help him. Now, I remember those good times me and my brother had with this music and came back here. My brother is now listening to this music once again. ❤️
Their world was ending. But all they knew was song. And so they sang. They sang to the merciless heavens. They sang to those that had forgotten them. They sang to all that were, and all that would ever be. They sang the song of their past. They sang the song of their present. And they sang the song of the future they wished they could see. And as the lights turned out As their song grew quiet Even as they knew they would never sing again They sang For they had one last song left, their final… Harmonic Voltage.
Animusic 2 was a prequel. Animusic 1 is a concert featuring the final 6 colonies of living instruments, with this song as the distress signal in case anyone came along to save them. Even though no one will find them due to their isolated location in the universe, they will never lose hope because this song was set to play forever and is probably still playing to this day!
When I was a wee nine year old, my piano teacher sat me down to watch Animusic and answer questions about key changes, major/minor, that kind of thing. I was so captivated by Harmonic Voltage that I watched it through twice. It now has a treasured spot on my "best songs" playlist.
Since the dawn of time...there has always been the Song. We know not where it comes from. Only that it powers worlds and creates life. This Power. THIS INIFINITY SONG.
I THINK THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG EVER GUYS THIS WAS MY ENTIRE CHILDHOOD, COMING BACK AFTER MY MUSICAL TASTE HAS GROWN AND WOAHHHHHHH ANIMUSIC IS STILL THE BEST OF ALL TIME
This video is literally so powerful it makes me feel emotions that are unable to be conveyed in human language like I literlaly STILL lose my mind every single time
Goodbye animusic. I never had any childhood memories about you, but you definitely made lots of memories for other people. Also if I went to a dimension where everything was opposites we would definitely have Animusic 3.
WoW! I love your music or animusic. I was just reading comments below. I'm 64 and I think they must be very young. They remind me of myself and my friends when we were young. So different today but yet the same also. It's all good. Young people are so smart and quick! I like that.
God this came out in 2009 and when I was in elementary school we would have days during music classes when our teacher would give us a break and either put on the sound of music or Animusic and everyone chose animusic. Those were the days I miss. When we didn’t have projectors and we had those big TVs we could watch them on. *sigh*
i remember seeing / hearing this for the first time around 2005, and wishing i could play it on guitar... in the mean time, i picked up learning guitar, in my mid 20's, as a hobbyist, i remember also my attempt at playing it back then, didn't go too smooth and forgot about it for a long time; now it's time to go back at it, and yes, with a decade+ extra gained comfort for taking on this ol' challenge :)
showed these to my girlfriend, who had never seen them. she was blown away. I played her this song, and we shared our first dance to it. this one will always have a special place in my heart.
At 13 years old, this video changed my life forever and drew me into the world of music and producing and my life has never been the same since! Thank you Animusic!
I remember being in kindergarten just amazed at this. I used to think this was real lol, I would wake up at 4 in the morning just to catch this on PBS. This is the only Animusic song I can still hum to this day.
Blew my mind years ago when I had a music teacher show us Fiber Bundles in class, Then Starship Groove. My dad showed me this one sometime later. Magnificent and worthy of the title *Art* .
Put this in my playlist after rediscovering it and rode the nostalgia high. Went to bed with my playlist on my headphones and sometime in the night the opening harmony stirred up my consciousness. I then experienced this song in a transformative way where I saw and felt the sounds. It was as if I was in the deep space, each note had a stream of light of different colors. As I was barely conscious, the concept of time was beyond me and each harmonic bend of the lasers felt like hours. I felt so happy and motivated but as the bars came to an end, I desperately wanted to start the song over again but alas it faded. One magnificent piece of art in a whole different reality was nothing more than a fleeting experience
i still watch this... even in 2019 i still love hearing this same type of music... too bad that the team broke up. Imma make sure i go into animation and music to revive this franchise :(
Holy Swiss! I just noticed that if you look, the drumsticks are casting two shadows on the drums! One pink, one blue! It's such a tiny detail, but those details are exactly what make Animusic so awesome. Both this piece in particular, and all their music in general.
When i was young i used to think that the lasers were alive. The blue laser at the beginning was killed (not in a morbid way) by the purple laser, and the pink lasers were mutations of the purple laser. I always though the green laser was "evil" and when it came down in 3:49 it was going to kill the drums. When the video ended and an actual drum set was introduced i thought that there was an actual drum set on the scene and it was just hidden. Ah, the memories.
I loved these in elementary school so much, every year we would watch them again, I especially liked this one just because it feels like it has a story to it. I'm so happy to find this on here, I forgot how amazing it was
I absolutely love this one, it sorta starts off upbeat and determined and gets more purposesful as it goes on. Look at 5:12 and tell me if you think "Triumphant" fits, cos it sure does for me!! :D
Started playing around with midi sequencing, and the first tune that came to mind was this. No clue what I'm doing so far, but it'll be fun learning! 🙂
This song sounds like the rise of an inter-galactic conquerer from another galaxy and his journey to absolute power, and how with that power he eventually became corrupt.
I didn't know my endorfin button could still be pushed in this way. But wow... If you have creativity, musicality and technical prowess combined in videos like this, who needs drugs? Orgasmic bliss, nothing less.
This sucker punched me in the nostalgia so hard I flew back into the body of my seven-year-old self for five minutes. God damn this was refreshing. Animusic forever

I'm so thankful I was exposed to these at a young age. I'm a music producer now, and I always picture synth solos as lasers lmao
@netunof great observation, I never knew about the logarithmic bit!
The lead synth's laser is also shaped like an oscilloscope readout that would match that sound

I'm 12. i LOVE this stuff! :D
There was a super chill comment on this video long ago that made me cry when I read it while listening to this. Something about a dying alien civilation and this was their call for help.
(there it is :D)
That's sweeeeeeeet
i was looking for it for the past 15 minutes hope i made yer day :D
cuz literally this is the most touching comment i have ever read so far
Mr. Bigshot You did indeed make my day :)
I just wish the jam that started right at the end would continue for a couple more minutes
Same here
+mikosoft If you watch the entire CD that jam goes on for like 3 more minutes.
Logan812 has a remake that does just that.
I have the DVD and it continues while the credits roll
@@redskeletonart238 I have it to
Did anyone else watch these in elementary school? I was always super happy to watch these haha
my teacher said we would finish it.
but we never did.
That's sad ;n;
these were my favorite days in music class!
Yes! They were such a treat
This is why I liked music class XD
Watching the purple rays start wiggling was so hypnotic. This is incredible, both visually and musically!
I'm sorry, but this song and features is just simply AMAZING!!! It gives me chills every time I see it, I watch it many times...it's just SO AMAZING!! My words can't even describe my thoughts on this. It's just PURE AMAZING!! I love it!
Gah. This still gives me goose bumps, every time!
Tied for my favorite... along with Heavy Light
Ha, Me too. :)
We're on the exact same page, but I think this one slightly edges out Heavy Light for #1 IMO. The cry of that laser/guitar/thing...
Alis Lutrell SAAAAMMEE!!!!!!!
R
Me too! But with Future Retro and Fiber Bundles as an addition.
I haven't seen this since I was 5 years old and I'm 22 now! ITS EXACTLY HOW I REMEMBERED IT!!!
This might actually be one of the few laser based songs from animusic that is humanely possible to make, and have it look super similar to the animated version. Can't believe nobody has done a Tesla coil cover of this song yet.
the lasers and light stuff are all fine and dandy but how do we make drumsticks float
This was the masterpiece that introduced me to AniMusic.
This feels like a medley of three songs from a video game: one for the main menu theme, one for general gameplay, and one that's a remix of the main menu theme for the end credits.
It feels like the sonic genesis games. Has around the same soundfont too
Harmonic Voltage is the song that made me fall in love with Animusic! Keep your chin up Wayne and never give up on Animusic 3, the world needs it!!
Everybody is talking about how 2:58 is the best part but actually 4:05 is the best part
True! And even more the end part from 5:14 😍
All these years later, and it still brings me to wonderful glorious tears of joy. Thank you. So much.
And as the lights turned out
As their song grew quiet
Even as they knew they would never sing again
They sang
For they had one last song left, their final…
Harmonic Voltage.
This is how the Avengers undo what Thanos did.
I THINK THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG EVER GUYS THIS WAS MY ENTIRE CHILDHOOD, COMING BACK AFTER MY MUSICAL TASTE HAS GROWN AND WOAHHHHHHH
ANIMUSIC IS STILL THE BEST OF ALL TIME
YESSS ME TOO I JUST REMEMBERED THESE
WoW ! 2024 and after all these years still #1!
Mere words cannot describe the emotions that come out listening 🎉
I used to get scared when I was little at 3:48 but now this is one of my absolute favorites, with stick figures and heavy light
i hope they come back, after almost 15 years…
Even putting aside whole visual stuff - i truly love this song, ,such a nice synth wibe
This made me an electronic music fan and producer. Thank you.
This video is literally so powerful it makes me feel emotions that are unable to be conveyed in human language like I literlaly STILL lose my mind every single time
still goes crazy
Goodbye animusic. I never had any childhood memories about you, but you definitely made lots of memories for other people. Also if I went to a dimension where everything was opposites we would definitely have Animusic 3.
I Saw this 12 years ago with around 200 views, crazy thinking about those times vs now.....
WoW! I love your music or animusic. I was just reading comments below. I'm 64 and I think they must be very young. They remind me of myself and my friends when we were young. So different today but yet the same also. It's all good. Young people are so smart and quick! I like that.
Animusic is the visualization of what my brain cells do all day.
This is how I heard synth sci-fi music in the 70's-80's. Good. Powerful. Unique, and it gives you an atmosphere that words cannot explain.
God this came out in 2009 and when I was in elementary school we would have days during music classes when our teacher would give us a break and either put on the sound of music or Animusic and everyone chose animusic. Those were the days I miss. When we didn’t have projectors and we had those big TVs we could watch them on. *sigh*
The soundtrack for this animation was made in 1995 it was constantly remade and remixed but this animation along with dvd came out in 2001
I love how I can see with my own eyes each sound being made it's so soothing to listen to and watch at the same time one of my favorites
Musically speaking one of their best pieces. I wish I could get the single.
anyone else remember that people thought this was the future of music back then?
This is my favorite animusic video of all time. It makes me cry every single time, no matter what. It's utterly perfect.
Watched this over 10 years ago. 2020 still awesome as ever!
I watched this 5 years ago
Watching these again gives me such a sense of nostalgia. I absolutely love it.
i remember seeing / hearing this for the first time around 2005, and wishing i could play it on guitar... in the mean time, i picked up learning guitar, in my mid 20's, as a hobbyist, i remember also my attempt at playing it back then, didn't go too smooth and forgot about it for a long time; now it's time to go back at it, and yes, with a decade+ extra gained comfort for taking on this ol' challenge :)
They need to make albums for iTunes and not just podcasts.
Definitely.
*high fives*
I would buy that album so fast!
PikachuJackskeling94 I agree!
The Sound of Twelve is on iTunes, though.
God, I miss my elementary choir days where we would watch these. I pity those who never knew the beauty of Harmonic Voltage.
showed these to my girlfriend, who had never seen them. she was blown away. I played her this song, and we shared our first dance to it. this one will always have a special place in my heart.
I have forgotten everything from my elemtary school days. But this I will remember forever. Damn its so good!
Listening to this 6 years after, i started crying because of all the nostalgia
At 13 years old, this video changed my life forever and drew me into the world of music and producing and my life has never been the same since! Thank you Animusic!
This is one of my childhood relics.... much nostalgic feelings and memories come pouring out more as I write this comment.
I remember singing this song back before I played in band, and this is what taught me breath control before even realizing what that was.
How this didn’t blow up Is beyond me
I remember being in kindergarten just amazed at this. I used to think this was real lol, I would wake up at 4 in the morning just to catch this on PBS. This is the only Animusic song I can still hum to this day.
me too
The fact that these on disk 1 were made in 2001 and still hold up 2021. I will know how to play Aclustic Curves on piano!
Animusic has been my music before I doscvovered oldies at 12... I still love this music... so much memories!
Did anyone else watch these in music class on school? Or was that just my school? ;~;
Yes. I loved it!!
+Analeigh Rose me too
+Allan Pearl me, about 10 years ago it feels like. :)
Us too ;(
yes i did but i saw pipe dream
My childhood right here. This is nostalgia in a single video.
Imma make sure i go into animation and music to revive this franchise :(
this song bring so much memories
Isn't it just wonderful I love animusic I really thank those who made it it just kicks butt I love it.
this is my favorite one out of all of them. I just wish it was longer
Its 2020...im still listening to this...wonderful
Same almost 2021!
Heya Andy B, this is you from the future. Triumphant definitely fits, it's awesome. You'll keep enjoying this.
PS: Hang in there, buddy.
Started playing around with midi sequencing, and the first tune that came to mind was this. No clue what I'm doing so far, but it'll be fun learning! 🙂
This song sounds like the rise of an inter-galactic conquerer from another galaxy and his journey to absolute power, and how with that power he eventually became corrupt.
somehow i think you are right..
yea lol I immediately thought of Starcraft after hearing this
2:58 sounds like some sort of prison or punishment chamber with the dark guitar solo lol
I didn't know my endorfin button could still be pushed in this way. But wow... If you have creativity, musicality and technical prowess combined in videos like this, who needs drugs? Orgasmic bliss, nothing less.
this is amazing who ever disliked it has no soul
This is something that Jenny the teenage robot would build if she has insomnia
Always come back to this for the nostalgia and the sound, almost makes me tear up. Things felt a lot simpler back then.
Owl city been real quiet since this one..
