It came out great, but if you are considering using this paint booth for lacquer and solvent based paints, applied with spray guns, then please remember that you will be creating large amounts of potentially flammable fumes in the air. I worry that your light switches, light fixtures, electrical outlets and most importantly, the old exhaust blower fan and the close-by air conditioner are not EX (explosion) proof electrical equipment and that could pose a substantial fire danger. I worry mostly about the squirrel exhaust fan which uses the air it sucks to cool the motor and brushes and sucking lacquer based fumes through that fan and the sparking brush motor can be a substantial risk of fire and/or explosion. The paper filter you have in front of it will not be sufficient to catch the airborne fumes and over time it will only get coated and blocked by the airborne vapor. This is why most higher end spray booth systems use water curtain filters to absorb solvent vapor droplets from the air, before the air is exhausted. Spray guns create a lot of super fine airborne fume particles, so please take some time to look into this for everyone's safety. Thanks!
Man I gotta say, I'm just amazed at where you took this. When I first saw photos a couple weeks back. I thought you built an addition! But seriously!? Before and After? WOW! Congrats
May wanna think about having a slightly positive pressure booth, with all that negative pressure it’s gonna suck all the dust on to what your painting. Have a bigger fan pushing air in thru a filter as well.
Yes! Best to put the flters in the air intakes and make it a positive pressure boooth. The fumes and over spray will be pushed away thru the outlets anyway. It works best for keeping the trash out.
@@BudgetBuildz check out the paint booth @fingerprintsworkshop did for his fiero respray. Defeinetly important to do positive pressure - harsh lessons learned!
One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about your videos was that you did your work with the help of your dad, and now for the garage face lift, you had your entire family helping out!!! That’s awesome!!! It looks great and can’t wait to see what else you and the family bring back to life!!! The Porsche is what dragged me but you and your family is what has kept me here!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!
A great paint booth idea! You really should install long lights along both sides against the ceiling at a 45° angle facing towards the center of the room... a must to see imperfections, runs, and spray patterns
Very cool. In the past I use to make static plastic barriers in the garage. If you hang some thin plastic on the walls it will pull dust and overspray away from the car. What a transformation!! I would still hose the floor down before you spray. Cheers!
Incredible what you accomplished with the resources you have. Don’t quit. But consider throwing a coat of paint or staple some siding outside. Looks very weathered.
This is absolutely the right thing to have done; I don't get all these car-related channels going through their 'garage rebuilds'' (it's the current trend), some of them pretty large, but don't include a paint booth. Instead, they paint outside wearing flip flops and t-shirts... On that note, do get a plastic suit, they're inexpensive and there is little point in having a paint booth but wear dusty t-shirts while painting.
It looks awesome!!! One thing i would do different is to velcro the two barriers in!! That way your fan don't suck them in to the room.... Well done gent's!!!!!
Hey Michael, you could improve the cleanness of the air in your paint boot by using the fan to blown in (filtered) air, instead of extracting it. By extracting the air, your boot will have an underpressure to the environment, and will suck in dust through the remaining gaps/leaks. When you blow in the air (through the filters), the boot has an overpressure to the environment, and will leak cleaned air through the gaps instead of sucking in dust.
The first time I watched this channel you were working on that truck with no bed. In later episodes I began to notice this garage. This is what I've been wanting to do. Thanks for saving me the trip.
So jealous! Its a booth and I wish I had it. Only concern would be fan motor contained within the blower and risk of spark during painting. Keep your eyes out for a fan motor with an external motor driving fan with a belt but hell I use to use a pair of small window fans as exhaust. Good for you!
I just watch this and wish my dad and family were with me right now doing a project like this. Cherish what you got, great work guys! Looking good. It is not trashy at all, that barrier idea is awesome. I may steal it,
Dear Budget Buildz 👍👌👏 Well done again (video and work). To build a paint booth was a really good idea! As I saw your pal spray painting the Porsche parts in his normal work shop, I could only shake my head. Without good lighting and dust removal, no decent spray paint job is possible. At least not one worthy a Porsche in which you already put sooo much effort and love in. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all of you.
I think you will find there will be a lot of airborne paint. Anything that isn't a downdraft booth just allows to much paint to stay in the air. Good luck.
When I built my garage it was all about utilizing the light to my advantage. Also, lots of windows on the west side which gets the most sun. Helps out so much. I love what you did with the garage. It sure does not look like the same place AND it looks bigger!
You need to put a steel mesh screen underneath your squirrel fan so the squirrels/mice don't nest up in there. PS, More Girl Cousin in the vids along with Super Dad. Love the vids no matter the content. Thank you!
Great family involvement .looks great .just a suggestion .make, buy some tubs on casters with lids yo wheel in and out of the spray booth .as we both know they are dumping grounds dead areas .so when you do spray in there you wheel out the storage tubs Great your making the work environment a better place Simply jobs like making the concrete hard standing outside the garage level and painted are jobs which give you better work area 👍
Looks pretty good. I think I would have put dry wall on the ceiling to clean it up some, but I can understand why you didn't. Hanging drywall on a ceiling is a PITA, even if you have a lift.
Your going to need a desiccant air filtering system for you paint jobs ! And LED lights show the paint different then fluorescent lights so choose your lights well ! And a heat source for drying is always helpful ! Plumb out your air lines , at least 2 per wall and a gun rack along with a paint station . Are you using 2 part paint ? Or single stage ?
Nice transformation guys!! You may want to put a speed control on the fan so it can be adjusted. You’re gonna have a lot of flow through there. It’s gonna pull a lot of dust with it. Keep up the nice work! Thanks guys!
You are giving your heart and soul in this project, that's awesome you can do this, I'm a big fan. Being following the 911 from the scrap yard and think you're doing a Fantastic job. Very well done to the whole family 👍
That's a lot of spray booth for little money... Well done ! One word of caution though, it might be wise to install explosion-free lighting. There might be inflammable fumes especially during spraying clearcoat. They are hardly more expensive than regular light tubes. The same goes for the ventilation...
Great turnout! I'll be making a collapsible paint booth for our space, but the venting concept is key! Hopefully it helps keep your paint jobs clean and trash-free!

It's looks great as a budget buildz garage. It's not perfect, but the channel is about doing what you can on a budget and you guys did just that.
Fantastic transformation gents
You have to do a vid too ,showing your HQ
Came for the Porsche rebuilt, staying here for all the great stories and your passionate work together with your dad. Stay safe and healthy, Michael😃

Will do! Thanks!

Not bad for home brew, not bad at all.
Well done fellas.
Ready to send my mgb gt over for a spray. Garage looks great. Well worth upgrading. Takes your build studio to the next level.

Time to finish the garage to keep dirt out of the booth. Nice job!

Love your careful words about the paint job on the car. The end is in sight!
Wow looks like a huge transformation, good job.
Great job. I didn't realize your garage was this deep.
Enjoyed watching you work with your Pa, reminds me of back in the day with my old man, happy days!

I am currently watching the video, but I really enjoy home diy stuff that is specifically car related. I would love more content like this.
