My biggest issue with split 3 is that the LCS 4th/5th seeds get completely eliminated from worlds without a single BO5. How can we have a format where this year's Cloud9 gets eliminated from worlds without a single BO5. People would be beyond furious in that example
What pisses me off is the fact that the south automatically take a slot from us. Let them atleast bang it out versus NA's 3rd seed... Imagine if NA 4th seed beats South americas first seed but they still get to go to worlds.. Its fucking outrageous.... You wanna play with the big boys, well beat them if you want to go to worlds.. People would scream murder if NA stole a spot from Korea that way.
In split 3 you need to see the league as a 16 teams league so in terms of qualification the 4th seed cloud 9 of this year is not the same equivalent as been 4th in the North conference. But I get your point on the BO5
Bro idk why they didn't start off the year by having SA conference vs NA conference to actually play for the spots. I'm sure it's at least partially due to teams wanting out of the league, but I would have loved to see all the teams battle for the spots and see who was relegated. Maybe at that point we can introduce the NACL teams to compete at the bottom end, like the old LCK format. My fear is that the old NA orgs with money will slowly accrue all the SA talent anyways, like the OCS talent acquisitions. Idk how to prevent it entirely, but teams having their own identity is huge, and the more that is erased the less enjoyable it is to follow specific teams.
Riot has forced trash formats since they took control of the circuit and kicked out all other TOs who actually ran high quality tournaments with good formats

To then watch them battle it out among themselves in week 4-5-6 ? There is absolutely no upside to this format - for viewers , org and player Wanna make this interesting ? It's the kind of situation where it so obviously reeks of the suits using only data to make this. I personally love split one (I am in NA after all). Having just a big tournament for seeding and cross conference play is so sick. Spring and Summer are just so fucking terrible
I hate bo1’s with a passion. I am not a fan of the LTA’s split structures. Split 3 seems so convoluted it’s insane. I may bypass viewing the Americas this year.
they try to make everything really exciting in all three leagues but I'm so confused now..as a casual viewer of domestic LCK I tune into LEC to check up on a few teams sometimes every other month tuning into LCS or watch their playoffs...now I wont even know the format they're playing, they way draft works (fearless or not), what team is LCS/relegation/selling slots, will I be watching a Bo1 or Bo3, what is the playoff format...theres a good reason to align formats in the same sport between leagues and that is so people know wtf is going on at each point in time when they tune in.. I might have to just tune in casually to the LCK this year depending on the teams I like and watch the MSI, worlds and maybe that first international...no more casual tuning into LCS and LEC I guess
I have no idea if the 3rd split format will be a success or not, but I'm pretty sure the dynamic they're hoping for is that the team that is choosing their opponent will sometimes choose a team that they think they match up well against, or that they think was lucky to have won some of their games, rather than automatically choosing the lowest seed available. This (they're hoping) leads the team that was chosen to feel disrespected: "Wait, we're #1 in the standings with a 2-0 record going 2-0 in both BO3s, and you chose us instead of the #4 team in the standings which is 2-0, who won both of their BO3s with 2-1 scores and needing a big comeback in game 3 of round 2 in order to squeak by? You really think you match up that well against us?" I have no idea if this will actually work. If it doesn't actually work, I don't know if they'll be able to coax enough quotes and tweets out of the teams to have their PR machine make it look like it worked. I can say that I have played in miniatures and wargame campaigns where the players chose their opponents in reverse order of the standings, and sometimes the person who was chosen did genuinely feel like they had something to prove, since the standings would have indicated that other players should have been easier opponents. TL;DR I think their hope for the 3rd split is that it creates team rivalries, which they can build on from year to year. I have no prediction about whether it will work or not.
it could possibly make sense if the split was longer with worse team selection thing once records deviate more but when every record is within a single win of each other it makes no sense. But as it stands chaos theory prevents any actual power ranking over a total of 8 matches. Makes no sense.
for the 3rd split, I may be wrong but I think the order of choice of opponents is based on spring rankings. So considering all favorites win in the 1st round, the 5th placed team has the 1st choice so that team goes for the 3rd placed team (cant play against 4th since repeat matchups arent allowed), the 6th placed team picks the 4th best, this leaves the 7th placed team with 1st place and similarly its 8th vs 2nd. If the top 2 teams win but the 3rd and 4th placed team lose, this puts 1 and 2nd in 2-0,; 7 and 8th in 0-2; and 3,4,5,6th placed teams in 1-1. At this point, there cannot be any possible matchup for 2-0 vs 0-2 and only 1 possible scenario for the 1-1 teams. Can anyone point out if I am missing something here?
The south v north in split one is for sure getting changed right? Bro imagine, its in Brazil and after 1 round ALL south teams are eliminated, thatd be so fkn awkward. Single elim AND all teams have to play a north team. I can see it happening too...
Them not clarifying the glaring obvious confusion of who gets the pick in what order for the pick and play is crazy. And yea the picking just overall seems weird, like cool lets make everything more confusing, so when I try to explain it to my friends Im trying to convince to get into the sport, have a harder time understanding it. Cool lol.
3:17 100T has wanted out for a while. Id assume because they went to worlds they didnt have time to find a buyer. 100T instead of owning their slot is now renting it basically, and will probably leave the league for real by the end of the year
For a video titled breakdown, there's far too much pauses and looking at a twitch chat that isn't even visible. Maybe a bit of editing? Or just change the title to "reaction to the new LTA format"
The “pick” group gotta be the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard why instead of watching the best teams play against each other we are forced to watch bad teams that are incentivized to purposely pick bad teams to play against. The top 4 teams can literally go the entire split without playing each other
LEC is not as competitive as NA the last two years, but once again, we have another year where NA can rock bo1 at worlds and then instantly fly(quest) home. What a trash system. Not one season looks good.
Why are we pretending that the "LTA North" Teams aren't WAY better than the "LTA South" teams? This makes no sense. The 4th and 5th seed north teams will 100% be better than the 2nd and 3rd seeds from the south. But all the formats are fucking terrible.
I think they are trying to make spring split matter by making the summer split so lobsided in favor of too seeds. I think they succeeded in making spring matter but the result is a trash format that if you lose your first game in summer you are giga doomed.
I think seed 8 would just pick seed 7 and all the way up to seed 2 vs seed 1. Then seed 8 if they lost would pick the next lowest that they haven't played. So you would have bottom teams playing each other and top teams playing each other early. So 8th would play 7 6 and 5 unless they suddenly think they would beat the top seed and like wise 1st would play 2 3 4. Unlike LCK with the legends and rising teams there would be more space for players personality to show through which I think they made it this way since LCS has been playing catchup viewership wise. It might change now since fly pushed gen g to 5 and if NA see more success than G2 cos Lec is a one team region there would persumadly bring in an influx of viewer ship and then they can hook more viewers with the player personalities. I won't be surprised if they asked them to talk a little shit when they are on stage picking.
