  • Optus has revealed that the reason for their network outage was caused by a technical change following a routine software upgrade.
Multiple layers in the network exceeded preset safety levels on key routers which could not handle the changes and therefore a number of them disconnected from the core network to protect themselves.
The statement by Optus shows it was not a malicious attack which the government has been saying for days.
Optus’ upgrades caused a flow-on effect and they are working to prevent this from ever happening again.
“We’ve been working to understand what caused that outage on Wednesday and we now know what the cause was and have taken steps to ensure it will not happen again,” Optus said in a statement released on Monday.
“We apologise sincerely for letting customers down.”

How many days has it taken Optus to come up with that bull story. They would have known the reason within a short time of the system going down, how else would they have known what to do to rectify the problems. Just treatment the public as idiots

@frizzy60, make no mistake about it Optus was hacked and hacked once again and good. They keep coming up with crap excuses and most people believe in half their well rehearsed story lines so if you believe in their bullsh!t then you'll go on to believe the moon is made out of cheese and the planet of the apes does actually exist .

Reminds me of the time I was working at MMI (when they were being taken over by Allianz). Some electrician was working in the Comms room after hours. He backed up and pressed some emergency switch on the wall behind him. This killed all the servers in the server room. When that switch was there, I don't know. But they put a cover on it after that.

If they were hacked, they would try to hide it. It would be an embarrassment after the recent data breach.

Here’s a laugh, all the Optus technicians who rushed to rectify the fault were supplied with Optus mobiles. Which of course weren’t working. But people in the industry said they commonly keep alternate sim for just this reason.

Sounds too obvious to be believed - this is something that would almost certainly have been detected from just routine testing.

Why are internal memos about incidents ( hope they did the incident report) the compete opposite to what the public are told.

Meaning they were getting hacked again, the only way they could defend it its self, is to stop all traffic by disconnecting the system. I seriously don't think it was an upgrade issue. Properly another data leak amd just covering it up.
