I respect Achebe very well because of the respect he brought to us. I attended Ibeku High School, Umuahia which is a Sister school to Government College. Both schools were owned by the Anglican Church. May they continue to live in our minds.
Achebe embodied the 'middle ground' approach. He had this quiet dignity in the way he offered up his opinions. He had deep respect for cultures and people from all places. It was a great honour to have grown up reading Achebe's work.
His interviewer is also like that, although not quite as towering. But Appiah is too lucky, interviewing the greatest writers like Achebe then Nuruddin Farah...
