【HD】1998 🇨🇳 China vs Russia 🇷🇺 🏐 Women Volleyball 🏐 FIVB World Championship

1998 World Championship held in Japan. 16 teams split by 4 pools (A to D) and then combined two pools (AD & BC) by round-robin. Each combined pool top 2 rank go semi final. Top 8 teams played 8 matches in total until tournament ended.
1998 was Lang Ping last year of head coach during 95-98 cycle. China team journey in this tournament was full of excitement. Lost to South Korea made them almost cannot enter final 4. But since Korea lost to Bulgaria unexpectedly, it made China rank the 2nd place and go to the semi-final.
Post-Match Commentary :
China entered into semi-final was no one expected. Mentally speaking, players were without any pressure as they thought this not supposed to happen. In the meantime, China won twice to Russia and lost 2:3 in WGP that year before this match. China was very familiar with Russian playing style.
Lang Ping described in her book about this game in very details. She said the new players in Russia side didn’t have any semi-final championship experience, mainly referred to #5 Sokolova (21yo, 1.9m) and #6 Godina (21yo, 1.94m) and it was their weakness. Also, the setter always pass the ball to #9 Tishcenko (23yo, 1.9m) in the first point. All the post-match preparation made Chinese led two sets by 15:4. In the first 2 sets, Chinese crazy defense made #5 and #6 suddenly didn’t know how to spike. Russian coach Kippo didn't yell at that game (very rare such happen) as he felt there's no hope to win against China. In the 3rd set, the remaining attack point #8 Artamonova (23yo, 1.9m) fight hardly against China. The score were getting closer and solely because of #8 high success attack rate. But Chinese still carefully look after #5 and 6. China won the 3rd set and entered the gold medal match. After this match, all players including Lang Ping cried as the road of this tournament was too dramatic.
