I gave up on riding jackets. Neck always choking me out. So I just wear a mesh revit protective upper dirt bike style jacket w all the best protection, and then just wear that w a revit AA rated mesh slip on shirt in summer and then just wear my winter jacket in winter lol… I mean it’s same protection and I get CE2 and AA-AAA skid protection and it layers so easy to mix it up for summer/fall/rain/winter and costs $400 total. Takes 1 min longer to put on then a jacket, but it’s the “best of all worlds”. I put a Florencent ultra light rain jacket in my riding rear tail luggage and whenever I feel I need more visibility I pop that on (night time or rain or ghetto city areas).

The protective quality of the multihued surface is undeniable, but it is unfortunate that the mage who crafted these items was colorblind." ps. and - yes - all Klim equip prices are pure madness...
I wear mine late fall thru early spring....so heavy and gets hot quick....but long hauls and you want one piece for everything....pretty hard to beat!!!
Great review, thanks. I recently went down the road (first time in 50 yrs of riding) in a pair of Marrakesh pants, and they saved me. So, I am a convert to Klim...!
I have the AA version the badlands pro, I personally love the roomy fit as the stuff that counts the armour can be pulled tight against your body with adjusters and the kidney belt makes the weight disappear, the additional room allows warm base layers when cold and in hotter weather allows the air to circulate. I live in Scotland where it’s mostly cold and it rains a lot, I can vouch for the waterproofing just remember which pocket your keys are in
If this combo had the same tailored cut as Alpinestars pants and jacket, I'd own a set in a heartbeat. Or if I was 100pounds heavier I'd own this set. I noticed how the A3 stuff fit a rider at a rally 4months ago. He was a good 250-275, and the pants were not super tight. I'm not hatin' though. I'm glad a company makes a quality piece of kit for people of that size.....and Klim....hire A*'s designer to mock up your A3 kit, and you'd have 1 more sale than you do now
I happen to think it looks wicked. I have the Carlsbad jacket and love it. I have their pants as well and they are brilliant. It the heat you just get hot and there’s not much you can do about it.
I have last years Badlands Pro A3 jacket. It has a hidden kidney belt built in. Also the pants seem to pop open when snugged up, remendy .... I had put suspenders on them. Otherwise they are great!
You should look at the Dainese D-Explorer 2 system, especially for hot weather riding. However, for slow and hot as you mentioned, no Adv Gear will do anything for you.
The Badlands is for a very specific rider who needs a very tactical suit. I’d recommend considering the Klim Carlsbad as an alternative, it’s much lighter and cheaper.
I love everything about that jacket except no removable sleeves. Especially with the bulk that built in armour adds, because it’s far to big to remove and attach to the back of smaller bikes.
I can't see past my rukka to spend the same money on an unknown quantity. I tend to stick to rukka alpinestars and dainese. Personal preference of course
I’ll keep my Motoport Cordura as even 105F in Houston was even tolerable in stop n go…. On the outskirts of tornados in pouring rain, yup dry with the liner in…
On the jacket part, I went Klim, but with a Marrakesh. I upgraded the armor to CE2 and added a Klim Forecast GoreTex outer shell. I get the same protection as this Badlands, but I only blew about $650 on all of it. I can ride it in any weather and I don’t look like a clown. Not as many pockets, but I can somehow muddle through.
excellent product, but as a European doesn't fit nicely for me ..... but I give Klim gold metal for finding the most hideous colors on the planet, what a hell is name of that "puked mustard" color......not everyone wants ride in boring black, who knows if KLIM team know there are out there other machines than KTM!!!! Great review as always, agreed with everything you said, cheers V!
My understanding is that the standard Badlands Pro is on a newer chassis compared to the A3 version, although just from images and videos it's hard for me to tell. Despite the Vectran, are you able to tell the difference in overall cut between the A3 and the regular version? Though this medium size looks like a pretty good fit for you. For the price of the A3, I think Klim needs to include a full L1 chest protector. Kind of egregious that they're just putting foam in there.
Hey Ian, I’m considering the Carlsbad but I’ve heard the knee guards don’t line-up with a riders knees correctly, I’m wondering I’d you’ve noticed this with either the Badlands or the Carlsbad?
A question on the side note: Is it possible to connect the badland jacket to a Carlsbad pant by zipper? (Have a Carlsbad suit, but thinking of getting a badlands jacket)
The difference in cost between the regular Badlands and the A3 Badlands is what I spent on my Alpinestars jacket haha. I like my Klim stuff too but $2500 for a suit is daft.
Klim never again! I bought a brand new Badlands" jacket for a rally. I took the jacket out of my suitcase, took the tags off and started to put it on. When I zipped the front zipper up, 5 teeth came off the zipper at chest level. I was now screwed because the zipper would not go down. Called Klim and they told me it was caused by ABUSE and they would not warranty the jacket. If their gear and attitude is such crap, I don't want it. I argued with them more after my trip and they won't stand behind anything. I took a video of me, after removing the armor, lighting it on fire and tossing it in a dumpster. Luckily I had brought backup for my trip. They should change the name of their company to "Fal". Klim is just another "Hyped" brand of the day.
That is disgusting behaviour from Klim and disrespectful, not as if they are short of cash. If I was you I would have taken it back to the store and refused it. Here in the uk we have the right to do it under a law of faulty purchased goods.
@@Drewstheboy I bought direct from Klim. Here in the US I now only by from local shops or my local Cycle Gear store. Cycle Gear has a no questions asked 2-3 year warranty on everything they sell. Lesson learned. Ride SAFE!
It may be a good jacket but im sorry i wouldnt be seen dead in that and the pants are way too baggy. Cant imagine the armor stays put in a crash with those pants. Im a traveller and want to be able to walk around town without looking like an idiot.
Not in a league of its own - DriRider suits are a fraction of the price and just as good! OK, I'm a bit partisan as DriRider is an Australian manufacturer, but their jackets are extremely robust, fully waterproof and don't break the bank. I can affortd to buy a new one every 5yrs no problem should I need to. In reality they last a lot longer.
All you need is armored shirt with a tough shell. You can get an astars enduro jacket, moose meash upper body armor all for about $270. If you get hot off road zip sleeves off. If hotter take jacket off and lash down and then slip on a moto jersey. These "adv" jackets are overpriced, heavy, and pointless.
Just the strangest fitting jacket I’ve ever owned. Tight around my arms but baggy enough around the middle for someone seriously obese. Arms too long even though I’ve got long arms But the quality is superb
Klim is a scam. I own a Badlands Pro…great StarBucks jacket…or maybe in California that jacket works. But as an all weather touring jacket it’s a fail. Klim does not warranty the zippers as waterproof. They refer to the zippers has “highly water resistant”. I’m got over 50km+ on my jacket and it leaks repeatedly on both arm and chest vent zippers. For those who need proof I will gladly provide the Klim warranty case # where they specifically state zippers are NOT waterproof. An overpriced and underperforming options for a all weather ADV jacket.
