Seeing this in person was amazing and getting to “see” it with a mello cam being a mello myself makes me so happy and inspires me to try out eventually once I’m out of high school
Im a senior in high school and i marched drum corps for the first time this summer. You dont need to wait until your out of high school. Dont let time stop you from acomplishing your dreams.
I really wish I could do it sooner but my parents don't want me to. I'm working on trying to convince them to let me lol. Plus my school gets out really late so it would probably work out best for me to wait sadly
my director won’t let us bc our band program is super competitive and missing any band camp means we’re missing drill so i have to wait until my senior year, but luckily it is my senior year :)
Honestly I don't know if any show has taken me on a journey like this one has, even more so from the perspective of a performer. I really want to see more into whatever dystopian cyberpunk world Babylon takes place in because that shit could be a movie. Kudos to the design team for thinking up such a coherent product and to the corps for bringing it to life with such emotion.
Now imagine, just for a moment, an orchestra played this ballad ok, and when the hit comes, 12 French horns are standing in the back, facing the side with bells up playing the mello part... it's a truly glorious thought and needs to become reality.
This whole thing is so athletic and enthralling. Full of challenges and risks (you're on the platform with "diver gal" in the opener, sweet!). You guys are in olympian shape near the end of the season (new closer drill) and yet, you're winded. Just shows how very hard this was. Thanks sincerely for posting.
@@lbLevii have you seen some videos at finals? They are having the most fun of the entire season. They practice so much they are just having fun at that point. But also they had been at many shows before finals so they expect it and are just having fun.
Silly question from a drummer: why no gloves for rehearsal? Back when I marched (when dinosaurs walked the earth), the hornline always wore rehearsal gloves so sweat didn't damage the horns. We used horns for more than one year, though.
Good question! Since our uniform didn't have gloves and we wanted to make sure there was as little difference as possible between performing and rehearsing, we ditched the gloves. Also we didn't want visible glove tans.
@@zackslay2938 point is invalid, have you ever watched a rehearsal video ever? Short shorts and sports bras other corps in other years still have those gloves on.
I love this im a tuba from Camdenton Missouri prolly haven't heard of us but I love you guys so much keep it up! Especially the contras our director told us we weren't disciplined enough for contras lol
how do you manage your breathing so well during these full runs? it seems like you never have to take an extended break from playing from being out of breath.
Honestly, the breathing during this run isn't exactly my perfect example, but we practice mindful breathing throughout the whole run. There are specific chunks when we don't play where we meter our breathing to the music. Other times we slow our heart rates by taking slow deep inhales and slower exhales. This helps when we have to play because our bodies don't feel the stress as much from all the breathing prep. I wasn't always great at this and it took a lot of mindful practice to get it right. We also have specific breathing counts for every player, so having the same breathing plan every phrase really helps.
Did the props have to be welded every time you needed yo use them? I came to a rehearsal (which was awesome) and I noticed the props were being welded to be put on field
Take the clip, count how many frames the fall is. If the playback is 12 fps, take 1÷12 to determine the length of a frame. Multiply the amount of frames by how long 1 frame is and you will have a time. Square the time and multiply by 16. And that's the height. You still with me?
I love when the corps that wins is the only corps without trumpet cameras
still waiting...
#MellosAreBetter
theres a trumpet who i think is wearing a headcam on the right 5:36 but given this was a year ago, poor guy probably didnt have it recorded

They said: "trumpets, don't mess things up this year. We love you, but you're too much" lol
The mello line for SCV this year was God tier. And the music definitely used that throughout the show.
Go back and listen to some of the lines when there were only 4 Mello's. They didn't have 15 other guys to hide behind if you were caught lackin'.

This show takes me through a trip down memory lane from when I was sux watching my elder brothers performing in uil marching comp
I’d never finished watching and my jaw was flapping open on the floor before
What was your first impression when you saw that huge mello sustain at the end of the show on the sheet music?

The horn snap during the ballad is just so satisfying!
I love the season when the goproz come out...❤💚. These are so fun to watch!
It still gives me chills
I liked how that rifle toss was just as high as you were towards the beginning. It just showed up and left.

Bad. Ass. Babylon is my all time favorite show and it was fun watching from the inside. Thanks Stone...well done.
I’m so happy to be recommended mello stuff... I feel like we are getting represented more and more :)
Real talk how did you control yourself and not smile during finals when everyone lost it at the snap up at 8:40

Everything about this show is literally godly. I can’t even imagine marching this.

Haha I found you. I was at your Utah rehearsal and lot, and you kept on making weird faces at me. And kept laughing.
Are you sure that wasn't just me being weird in general? Hope you enjoyed the lot, though!

Justyce M hi justyce i know you!
Jesus, what kind of valve oil do y'all use? My horn would lodge a complaint if I tried to play anything that fast.
Siyual they have new horns so that’s why
John Johnson Yamaha’s synthetic valve oil is the shit. Inarguably better than 95% of everything on the market
I know I am late but if you want a cheap halfway decent valve oil try Blue Juice

I forget that these incredible performers are my age
How hot did those props get in the sun? Looks like they would burn you when you sat on them
They got pretty hot at times! But it's okay, we would be smart with them when they got too hot. It was never a huge issue.
