  • I began this project in 2022 and finally finished it a year later. I challenged myself to make a Tudor style Dres for under $25 using ONLY items found at a thrift store. It was much more difficult than I had anticipated.
But, I'm not really known for thinking things through.
I had to set it aside for awhile because I became overwhelmed, so it joined my in-completed project pile and I'm learning that having such a pile is not necessarily a bad thing.
Am I happy with how it turned out?... Not so much, but I am glad that I persevered and completed it. Was I successful in staying true to the challenge? You'll have to watch to discover.

I know this challenge was a tear your hair out beast. But as a thrifter I LOVED that you used only thrifted items. That dress looks nicer than many of the costumes my friends go in.

You had me at the first 30 seconds. First you call me out, then you validate me. Yep, I'm hoooked! And I love that you used thrifted supplies.

I almost didn’t post this video, felt kinda vulnerable. I didn’t realize it could be validating to others. I’m so psyched that it was 😊

I've been sewing since the '60s, and costuming since the '70s, and many thrifted curtains have been sacrificed along the way. Your gown turned out quite nicely.

Your comments are very funny 😂.
When I think ' quick project ', 'Tudor dress ' is not the first option jumping to my mind 😅.
What an amazing find at the thrift store!
Perfect for your skin tone and beautiful dark hair ❣️

This project was more than challenge to say the least. I'm glad that you were able to finish it. Hope you learned from it.
I have some that I came back to after a long while and finished. Others I just tossed out. I think that I have learned the most from these projects. Much of it being what not to do.

Just stumbled across your channel. Awesome video, you really like to make use of all the fun filter/editing options! I too have trouble with time estimates for projects at best they take 2x as long. But usually 4-10x longer than I estimated x,x

    • @adifferentsortofduck
      @adifferentsortofduck  Год назад +2

Hi! And thank you! I do like to make use of the options. If I don't mix it up I get SO bored. YES, time estimation is not strong with all, but we who are lacking in said skill make up for it in other strengths!

😂😂😂 watching this while make the same dress from the same material. I used zip ties for my boning. I was using a bed spread in the same design and colors. I was able to eliminate numerous seams this way, making the making happen faster 🎉. I kept the piping already on the bed spread and the lining attached to it all together.
Pro tip: if it can be cut and seamed together, it can be gathered for floofier results 🎉

Socks! 🧦 That’s impressive! 😮 Socks sound challenging.

That was a beautiful video and dress! Doing it all thrifted is hard. It really depends on your area and the staff at your thrift stores. I know one of my thrift stores don't put out any craft stuff other than fabric and yarn. Fortunately the others do but you really have to have been collecting for a while to end up with all the notions you would need for this project.
I think I will go watch your back log

Thank you so much!!! And yes! You are absolutely correct, I’ve been collecting here and there for many years. My local thrift store has a good craft section, I haven’t seen many craft supplies at other thrift stores. I feel VERY fortunate. 😊

I enjoyed this video and had suggestion for what to use as boning for a thrifted challenge. The plastic strapping used to hold boxes on pallets is similar to boning and free.

Back when i was studying costume we had to do this all the time, most costumes had to be made with calico and/or thrifted fabric. We were alloewd to dye or paint the fabric, but the orginal fabric had to be second hand. Costumes made from curtains were pretty common.

considering that most of these fabrics were wool, I wonder if Europe was really that much colder or if they really sweat rivers under their clothing and sucked it up.
