If this game was after Week 2 or 3, I would be very cinfident Miami would take this. However, with a new QB and so much new personnel, I am afraid they will not be in week 1 what they will be.
If Miami is in a good program state, there's no reason why they can't win 9-10 games this season. In comparison to UF's schedule its a cakewalk. But I feel like that puts much more pressure on the Canes to perform and being in the Swamp will be the edge that Gators need to win this thing. Napier has his people, and its time to show the world.

This could go either way but Cam Ward is playing his first game with a new team while Mertz is seasoned and has full control of the offense. Both have talent. Both coaches are in year 3 and while a single game doesn't a season make, the loser will be on the "fan hotseat". Both defenses will be better. Most things being equal, Florida plays in the Swamp which will be rocking with a stable and experienced QB. Unless Florida gets a penalty for having 2 players with the same number on the field, Florida wins.
Sure hope so, would love to see the Gators take this one !

I think the turning point for Florida is week-3 against aTm in Gainesville. I think they matchup really well against aTm and I actually have them winning convincingly that week and likely changing the narrative around Napier.
Miami is huge no doubt but I think w/ Florida’s tough schedule they have more opportunities to change the national perception even if they lose to Miami.

It’s an experience like no other. It’s going to make going back to your rent-a-stadium even more depressing when you see 20k compared to 90k the week before.
I’m a die hard Nole fan, but I’ve been to the swamp many a time in the past decade and a half. It is truly unique, and one of the most electric atmospheres in college football. That being said, both these teams are garbage, and I look forward to seeing who will be second and then third in the state of FL. Go Noles, respect (and hate for the gators), Miami is trash 🗑️ just like every other year.

Miami fan here and Week 1 in the Swamp scares me,,, UF has beaten Utah and Tennessee last couple seasons in the Swamp and then lost games to lesser teams at home and away ,, Gators in the Swamp can beat anyone in 1 Big Game so if Miami wins I will be Pleasantly Surprised!!;Go Canes

Everyone is predicting this game based on Cam Ward and whether or not he does well in the swamp.
If things get tough, all he has to do is get the count right and hand it off to Damien Martinez. That will open up everything and slow down the game. Plus, if Fletcher is available for that game… that’s a wrap!
Over half of Miami's roster are new faces. With it being game one in the Swamp, it's gonna matter. Miami's had better ranked classes in the last three years, but not by much. Miami is not likely to win this game.

Ummm, 14 transfers of the 85 scholarships. Now, the 14 transfers are most likely starting week one, but nowhere near 1/2 the roster.
@mickeyn.5059 Freshmen count as new faces. I thought in total there was 45 between freshmen and transfers, but I just looked, and it says there are 42. So, just about half.

Miami's trenches do not exceed Florida's to the extent needed to dominate the game simply because Florida has home field advantage and a lot more talent in the perimeter. @@WalkerSportsLounge I’m not certain it is just a cash grab. From the stuff I’ve heard on it, the reason for the delay in filing was because ncaa was doing there own investigation. Some of the messages from that booster seemed fishy and if Billy did indeed call Rashada and tell him to sign the NLI and that they would find the money, is a bad look to say the least. Especially if they did all this knowing they weren’t going to be able to pay the kid.
Nothing to do with on field. I just find it embarrassing. I’m not one who actually assumes a W for Miami. I think Gators have some dudes. I think it’ll come down to the trenches and I believe Miami has the edge there. That and Mertz doesn’t wow me. His was mid in WI and hasn’t improved much.
@@tlobrill1 It doesn't matter if Billy did call Rashada. Rashada will never be able to prove it. If one of the two parties in a recorded call in the State of Florida did not agree to be recorded, the call is not admissible in court. That recording will never see the light of day if it exists. Which for the record, I do think Napier did it. But, it doesn't matter what I think. It only matters what you can prove.

I’m a Miami fan, for the record, I don’t poop on Billy the way many do. I’d argue more patience should be given. Mertz was a band aide. Lagway is legit. Gators got a bunch of players I was hoping we’d get. Although the way recruiting ended was bad. I wonder if the Rashada thing impacted with negative recruiting that led to some of those flips.

I think you forget cam Ward is very familiar with Dawsons scheme and he has no problem delivering the football to his receivers all across the field

I don’t think Miami is scared of the swamp at all. They have better players and better coaching. The trenches will be won by Miami especially with their defensive line. Mertz is gonna have way less time to deliver the ball and his baby passes aren’t gonna cut it against the linebackers and the DB’s don’t have to do as much since they stay in coverage for less time. Cam Ward is behind an offensive line that’s ranked easily in the top 20 or 15 even, and playing in a scheme that is 100% tailored to his strengths and weaknesses. For all the Florida fans who don’t keep up, EVERYONE is behind cam Ward and he’s bringing the culture and the mindset to the next level. Too many athletes and playmakers for Florida to handle in my opinion

I know Florida isnt used to playing good teams week one but either way this one goes the loser will be fine if they win out. Maybe they can lose one more game but any team can recover from a week one loss especially with an expanded playoff. The weight of early games just don't match a late season loss which imo is kinda crappy.

I don't think Florida has a chance. I am an SEC homer, but I can be unbiased in situations like this. The U loaded up and UF's roster doesn't stack up. It would take Miami playing their absolute worst game and Florida playing out of their mind to keep it a one-score game. With the trajectory of UF, I'd be surprised if Napier is there at the end of the season - I hate it because I like the guy and he was put in a near-impossible situation, but UF's expectations are SEC title game, not 2.5 O/U wins.

We're overdue for a shockingly successful opener like we had against UM in the early eighties (82?). They went on to win the NC with the worst opening game loss in CFB history after UF whipped them 28-3. We've thunked 'em on the noggin before as a prelude to a season of rebirth for the program. It's time to do it again.

The schedule comparison tells the tale. Miami is no better than the fourth or fifth best team on UF's schedule - at best. They can stumble at the Swamp and still win nine or ten games. If UF loses at home, they better be impressive in defeat and UM better be more formidable than I expect them to be, or Billy could be in real trouble. I expect a Gator victory.
