This video brings back so many good memories in 2022. I still reminisce about cycling around Melbourne and there was always someone to cycle with. Oh, they were the good old days. 😭😭😭😭
This inspires me to shave my legs, drink 5 cups of coffee, drop around to a pretentious bike shop and buy a $500 kit, take some photos of my bike against some street art, then go home for a snooze.. is Melb any good for cycling?
One from thee past: in 1971, I rode up to Sassafras, had a cuppa with a survivor from the Bridge on the River Kwai, and rode down the 1in20 - well before it had its name. What made it interesting was that my brakes failed quite quickly aqd I rode down the rest of the way, using my mate as a brake.A memorable ride. Lovely video
Everyone seems to be missing the point that Melbourne is the greatest due to its cycling culture and not necessarily the terrain. If I had to choose a city due its terrain it would be Wollongong. Glad the worlds are being held there in 2022.
If you want to learn about hills take the freeway out to Ballarat turning off at Pentland Hills stop for lunch in the Blackwood Tea House then continue to Trentham and get the V-Line country train back to Melbourne.
glenny oc could be possible. Here not too bad but I live 5 km cbd and 6km Norton summit base. The most climbed segment in Strava in Australia. In Melb this is impossible.
@@junqueirapedro he's talking about the road surface mate, they're shocking in adelaide. Melbournes roads are WAY smoother, better maintained and safer
Michael Ssnders I know what he is talking and I am talking that that distances in Melbourne for cycling is very far. If you go up I agree with him. Do not think ADELAIDE is shocking level. Most are good.
I actually prefer it that way as you get a few kms under your belt before hitting the climbs and the rides tend to be 100-200km in length which is great for fitness and endurance
Not sure on the name, but it's right at the top of the 1 in 20 on the right-hand side. It's part of the nursery. Be warned it will cause weight gain....in the best possible way.
Melbourne may have a great bike culture but it's laughable to think that it has the best cycling in Aus. Come to Canberra. Excellent, well established urban paths and bike lanes. World class single track all over the city, some of the best at Bruce Ridge less than 2km from the CBD. Solid urban road climbs from easy (Mt Stromlo) to challenging (Black Mtn, Mt Ainslie). In Canberra you are never more than about 5km from the urban fringe. Quiet country roads both tar and gravel surround the city supplying amazing riding from your front door. The hills of Namadgi and The Brindabella Range give ample opportunities to climb proper hills. I could wax lyrical all day.
For me Melbourne is a better city for cycling than Amsterdam. Melbourne has clearer rules and regulations for cyclist, whereas in Amsterdam it can be a bit chaotic.
It’s a very different kind of cycling I think. Melbourne looks to be “enthusiast” cycling. In Amsterdam (Netherlands as a whole) bicycling is more commonly just about utility/primary mode of transport for everyone from kids to grandmas 👍
It seems that the criteria for the best cycling city is made up of pretentious factors e.g. cycling culture, bike shops, coffee, whether people shave their legs and wear $500 colourful kits, street art to photo your bike.. if you’re after the best and varied terrain and views, it’s definitely not Melbourne
@@ashleymalamute depends what you want in your rides.. the Netherlands is flat as a pancake. In Brisbane there are nice bay rides, river loop, mt cootha (only a couple kms from the cbd) and nice hilly rides on the outskirts. The psychotic bogans can be a downside though.. so Netherlands wins on that front.
@@ashleymalamute Yes and no. Purely for infrastructure and lack of cars in the cities - definitely. But for awesome roads, climbs and adventurous riding, Australian cities are pretty damn good.
Ben Cureton no issues with that is there? Adelaide’s got coffee as good as anywhere in Melbourne. Yes Melbourne probably has a nicer Crit seen, and also it’s cool riding around the city, but how do you guys find the tram tracks? Pretty nasty if you get your wheel stuck in one. That’s never really been an issue in Adelaide, also where are the climbs in melbourne? I’m not talking about out of melboune, I’m talking “in” Melbourne. Adelaide’s got plenty. Whatever you want, all 5k away from the centre of the city. Want to do a flat 100k loop along the bay like you can in Melbourne? No problem. Head out along to port Adelaide and outer harbour. There’s a reason why mike Turter hosts the tour down under over here. Also who’s the world time trial champ at the moment? Pretty sure he’s from Adelaide.
Melbourne looks to be a beautiful city with a great cycling culture, and I’m sure Adelaide is too. As someone who has never visited Australia, I’d love to get the opportunity to cycle in either city someday 👍

Love this format! Definitely inspires me.
Thanks BKXC, we at CT love your channel!
Mate Adelaide's where it's at ;)

This needs at least 2 more segments, which just proves in a way how great Melbourne is for cycling.

Andys dismount at 7:12 :D
He's all class.
Refined Images 👍 but what about that bike as well? 💯👍
he's a few lovely bikes in his garage I hear. What I'm just waiting for him to release a FXYO t-shirt with #dadbod on it (5.17 )@@jugiholic4388
That coffee shop and bakery in Mt Dandenong, Prosperina, is superb.
It's just the best. Wish it was there when I lived in the area 8 years ago -Dave
Loved it Dave - with the people, real cyclists amazing city (envy when a blanket of snow in UK and your turbo is bust) 👍
I miss the Melbourne cycling culture, best 4 years of my life

The culture looks great (and I’m sure the weather helps??), love the idea of those early morning group rides, not something you see here 👍
Absolutely beautiful place!

Well we have to save something for the next trip!

Great video... great rides... where is your favourite place to cycle road bike... how about Catalunya, Gerona, Costa Brava...?
That proserpina cafe sassafras is the best.
Heck yeah. It's amazing - Dave
As a Filipino the "Imelda Marcos had shoes" killed me! hahahaha
Been to Hobart...?
"More kids than Imelda Marcos has shoes." Nice hahaha
Nice. Melb is awesome but nothing beats ADELAIDE. Please video.
Im from Adelaide and its ok but i think Vic has better roads quality wise.

Should have done The Hell Ride! Big miss that!
I've rode that before. Not my cup of tea. It's one heck of a unofficial race. - Dave

Superimposing Canberra is boring tho. Where’s your beautiful ocean views?
Melbourne is nice for biek riding if you like to ride flats or ride 30 kms for proper climbs :)
I like flats for bunch riding you get that more in Melbourne. Adelaide is better for close hills.
Hello brother
What part of Melbs did you get that accent? Footscray?
Well it is a melting pot of cultures down here in Footscray

All Australian cities are hopeless for cycling when compared to Holland.

i always thought australia was just a nation where kangaroos ruled .... i guess i was wrong .
I dont get the whole tour de france clothes......
"I think some of them don't shave their legs"
Do these amateurs actually shave because they think that'll make them better?
They may be expecting some road rash at some point.
Aerodynamics. Pros want to shave off every last bit of turbulent flow to wring out the last fraction of a second of speed.
Looks good and boy, does it ever feel sexy when you slip into bed.
All just part of the culture, relax 😊
Good Joke.......Funniest ive heard in a while.
No proper climbs!
That is missing form this great cycling city.
What about a hair cut??
i hate this guys speech impediment
