The nice thing about using the Cento puree to make juice, you know exactly what's in the juice. I'd imagine store bought tomato juice has preservatives in it.
I'm going to freeze the puree in ice cube trays, then transfer to a zippy bag. Then I can add how ever many puree cubes I need for a glass of tomato juice. I like lime juice in mine. Thank for this video.
That tomato juice looks so good yes it did and I like how you just poured the rest of that lemon over in there that was good love you all a bunch thank you for all of your videos and your hard work you and your husband Jim love you guys take care and be safe see you in your next video
This idea is just wonderful! I have made tomato juice using passata , which is pureed Italian tomatoes, generally in a glass bottle. It rivals canned tomato juice in freshness of flavor, and there's no tinny taste, that I can detect in the usual. I bet those Cento tomatoes are canned in a better way, hence the success you're having... Cheers!! 🎉
I’ve been very happy with my kitchen mama can opener. We were converted to the side opening years ago-the sharp edges gone so recycling was safer. Our manual opener finally got too dull and this gadget appealed to my arthritic hands. Setting it on smaller cans is a balancing act
Hi Pam and Jim, we have a manual version of that style of can opener from oxo and ive found due to the way it opens sometimes it needs a couple of passes. That may bring you more success. Thanks for all the great information!
My goodness that is awesome! I would just imagine that adding a bit of other creative things it could be made into a sort of V-8 too. Thank you again for all the inspiring ideas you give!
I have had 2 different can openers of that type, I don’t remember the brands. They never last very long, maybe 2-3 months. I have a manual one from Pampered Chef that I really like, it also doesn’t leave sharp edges.
When I got my first dehydrator the cookbook had a recipie for dehydrating tomatoes, powdering, then adding increasing amounts of water for tomato paste, sauce or juice. So my guess is you just need to determine how much water to add.
Pam, the way the can opener works is it basically uncrimps the the lid from the can. So basically reverses the process of the "closing" crimping sealing of the can.
I LOVE THE IDEA OF USING THE PUREE INSTEAD OF BUYING ALL OF THE DIFFERENT FOODS IT WILL MAKE. ONE CANNED PRODUCT SAVES ROOM, WHEREAS SIX DIFFERENT PRODUCTS WOULD TAKE MUCH MORE ROOM WHEN PREPPING. STORAGE IS A PREMIUM IN MY HOUSE. THANK YOU THIS GREAT TIP. WHEN MY DAUGHTER AND I TALK ABOUT YOUR RUclips VIDEOS, WE JUST SAY PAM AND JIM AS IF WE KNOW YOU FOR YEARS.
Brilliant. I will use tomato juice for cooking corn beef in the crock pot and sometimes a roast. I will try this. Sometimes we add hot sauce to ours for a little pick me up.
Thank you for reminding me. I have stored my tomatos as paste and powder. The paste can be made into sauce or juice. Please remember that acidic foods like tomato can eventually burst the can. And I can promise you that you will not be able to scrub it off your paint. It took three coats of paint to cover the stain.
I just pulled tomato sauce out of the freezer dryer. Powdered super fine. Into storage as soon as I’m positive it’s perfectly dry. Thanks for another great Micro Moment Monday!
If you take a few tablespoons of your dehydrated tomato paste, add a little water and season it. You will have more than enough pizza sauce for one pizza. It’s so much easier than canning it. But if you want to do it straight from the can you just buy a little can instead of a big can. I don’t have a freeze dryer like you do but I have dehydrated tomatoes already seasoned for pizza sauce. So all I have to do is add water and put it on my pizza. I don’t have that much room for a cans unless they’re things that I absolutely can’t get in any other form.
We have that can opener. It's fine but we don't like it with tuna since you can't use the lid to push the water out. I have discovered you can turn a regular manual can opener on it's side and do something similar. I've recently used a random cheap can opener at work that was not doing anything and when I turned it on it's side I was able to open the can.
Thank you.l have to have low salt, now l can make my òwn,you are awesome. Love your videos.l used to drink large amounts of tomato juice but it contained tons of salt and the salt substitute that is in the lower sodium type had too much potassium,l had to give it up after it landed me in the hospital with fluid in my lungs and congestive heart failure, now l can have this and control the salt ,lm excited.!!! I'm glad to see you and Jim cutting down on salt,it tastes so good but it can mess one up,too and nearly everything processed is just full of sodium. This summer,lm going to can some from fresh summer tomatoes.
Im like you Pam. I must have a variety of tomato productd on hand. I dont can anymore but always pickup some each time i shop. I find the large cans of tomato juice is a great substitute for sauce as in chili.❤
I have one of those can openers. I've had no problems with mine I got mine on qvc. it works well with all my cans. be sure you have batteries on hand because if the batteries run out of power, you can't get the opener off with out replacing batteries.
I had an accidental fall a few years ago where I sprained my wrist, elbow and shoulder. I thought, "No problem. I have plenty of canned goods." Turns out a sprained wrist keeps one from being able to operate a manual can opener. A years supply with no way to get to it. My neighbor came to my aid. But I suddenly realized how vulnerable we all can be. We need electric, battery, manual and family and friends.
I fell and broke 2 ribs a year ago. Everything was painful, just breathing. I couldn't even crochet as I couldn't get comfortable. 6 weeks before I felt I was beginning to recover. 6 months is what it took in total. I'm sending you positive thoughts!❤
@@katydidiy Thank you. I am writing this by the light of my Hybridlight. I've injured my knee and am learning about all the things I did not prep.An electric extension cord long enough so I can recharge my phone next to the chair where I need to sit. An adjustable length cane. A knee brace. A non-compresable knee pad to put on the chair to elevate me to a height where I can stand, an elevated toilet seat ( again, so I can stand up). Thank goodness my tub/shower has grab bars on three sides so I can hold on to bathe. You do not need to be old, just injured, to need these things. They will be harder to purchase after a natural disaster where many are injured.
I make pizza sauce with my tomato powder. I just season it to my liking. If I'd like, I also add freeze dried chunks for a more hearty pizza sauce. Thanks for sharing you tomato juice method. Looks delicious.
Thank you for another great video. I was wondering about the spaghetti sauce without meat in the USDA canning book and comparing it to the Lasagne recipe in the Betty Crocker cookbook. Could a person can the sauce part of Lasagna recipe using the Cento product add basil and leave out the celery? Another question I have is USDA doesn't say anything about adding bottled lemon juice to this recipe. I use the Betty Crocker recipe for Lasagna, spaghetti and pizza sauce would be nice to have some canned and ready to use.
Hmm. I think what your commenter who suggested opening and seasoning a can of tomatoes meant literally one or two cans. That way you have a very small batch of pizza sauce instead of too much to use before it went bad.

At 3:25, you said 4 parts of puree and 3 parts of water. Then you explained 1/4 cup of puree and 3/4 cups water. It is simpler and less confusing to say 1 can of puree to 3 cans of water. Thank you.
Where is the ground can metal from the can? If its ground smoothe?? When I use a regular can opener I dip a spoon around the inside edge and throw away and take papertowel and wipe alittle. I guess I dont like cans. With watery liquid I dump out alittle and throw away before I dump it out. And if I open canned peaches I do B this the dump in a bowl and imagine missed 'can' now on the bottom and dont use the bottom of the juice, and metal settling to bottom. I guess you need a magnifying glass??? How healthy is can material???

Both are acidic and the lemon brightens the flavor. Lemon also preserves the color. I always add it. 😍

WOW! So simple. My grandfather loved tomato juice. Since he was born in 1921, he'd probably really enjoy this. Heck, I'm craving some now too!! 😉👍
We hope you enjoy it when you make it. Let us know the results. Jim

Just a tad as she slowly adds lemon, then dumps in the rest! I can relate

Those types of can openers are pretty good with most cans, but there are definitely several cans (like tuna cans), that it makes more of a mess
