Ola, tudo bem?! In this video, I teach you some words in PORTUGUESE. It's all whispered and all improved, just how most of you like it. There are also some tingley writing sounds of marker on paper for a good portion of the video.
Again, feel free my fellow portuguese and brazilian people, to correct me on any errors I made. I am just trying to get back in the groove of it and we're all learning here.

Portuguese from Portugal is like English from England: More traditional but harder to understand while Portuguese from Brazil is more like American English: not the original but more popular and easier to learn.

seriously thank you for putting the portuguese flag in the video image....as a portuguese i think many people associate portuguese languange with brazil and forget that it is originally from portugal!
There’s a difference Portugal Portuguese is Latin European and Brazilian Portuguese is Latin American
Little tip, for the word "obrigado/a", the gender of the word varies depending on the gender of whoever spoke it. Men will always say "obrigado" and women will always say "obrigada". Remember, "obrigado" is a word with a different meaning than just "thank you", it also means "obliged", or "I am obliged to return the favor". The pronoun "I" is the salient bit, and that's why it changes with the gender of the speaker.
Fun fact about the word "obrigado", it is the origin of the japanese word for "thank you", which is "arigato", which is what the word devolved into after being introduced to Japan by portuguese explorers in the 16th century.

Hi, I want to say that your Portuguese is very good. And just to clarify on how to use the word obrigado: if you consider yourself a male, you say "Obrigado", if you consider yourself a female, you say "Obrigada". Great job on your videos. I really enjoy them. Especially the Portuguese without the Brazilian accent, although I'm Brazilian.
Another thing. The differences between the porquês:
Por que (separated) it refers to a question.
Porque (together) it refers to an answer.
Por quê = it refers to a question at the end of a phrase. (Você gosta de matemática, por quê?)
Porquê = it refers to the noun.

For all wondering she is 24 from Toronto she is half portuguesa (Portugal ) and half Cape Verdian her father is around the same color as her if not a little dark her mother is white she identifies as a portuguesa but also as a mixed women as in white mixed with black I know this. Your Portuguese is pretty good, in Aruba we speak "Papiamento" which is similar to Spanish & Portuguese in a lot of ways, it makes Spanish easy as hell to learn but gets trickier when it comes to Portuguese

I work in an area of MA where it's heavily populated by Portuguese people from the islands. When I first started working there I thought about learning Portuguese but everything I looked into was Brazilian Portuguese which I was told is totally different. Found it kind of weird that finding a way to learn REAL Portuguese was as hard as it was.
Oh yesss, I've heard! I actually have some family friends living there. And yeah, I don't know why they don't offer the two. It's pretty different. Someone orally speaking to me in brazilian portuguese, very fast is like trying to understand someone who's speaking to me in spanish. Very similar but different enough to be categorized into its own. Just my opinion.
So it does make it more challenging for those who want to learn Portugal, portuguese. For sure. It's even pretty difficult finding an app that teaches portuguese other than the brazilian way (by NO means am I ripping on Brazilian portuguese, just simply shedding light on the situation haha. The brazilian dialect is oh-so beautiful! ) I totally understand where you're coming from!
Hopefully my Portuguese vids will add more exposure to this topic and help distinguish between the two. ^_^

Portuguese evolved from Vulgar Latin (meaning common speech), which was the form of Latin that was used by the common people, especially in the colonies (Iberia, Gaul). It started changing and becoming its own thing, using own pronounciations, etc.
After the Roman Latin died out, Vulgar Latin took its place, but it did not take long until Vulgar Latin split up due to different factors.
Vulgar Latin split into: Galician-Portugese, Castillian, Leonese, Aragonese, Catalan, French, Italian (and its various dialects, i.e Sicillian) and some small various Romance languages.
Not sure why I wrote all of this, but just fun facts. I was bored.
Oh, Portuguese is my favorite Romance language btw. It sounds different.
