    Regarding the Powerloader scene in the first act: the initial incredulity it isn’t about Ripley being a woman. They have plenty of badass women in their crew. It’s that the marines are grunts who look down on Burke and Gorman (and Ripley at first) because they they can’t DO anything. They are management, empty suits that make their lives harder.
    Ripley is demonstrating that she is one of the blue collar workers who can contribute to the mission instead of sitting on her hands and waiting for everyone to do the work for her. From that point on the marines look at her as an equal.

    • @miller-joel
      @miller-joel Год назад +1

      And the only reason Ripley knows how to operate the powerloader is that the Company revokes her Flight Officer license. Which forces her to take a job at the loading docks.

      Thanks for saying that. I watched a pair of women reactors on another channel who took offense at that, doing the stink-eye thing. It was like they had a chip on their shoulder. I commented there and I'll add here that I wouldn't even characterize Sergeant Apone's and Corporal Hicks' reaction as incredulity, as much as, "Well...kick ass!" Which is my reaction with any woman who is smart, capable, and talented. I instantly admire and smile when I think of that type of woman, and I think that's what their smiles connoted.

      Also, Ripley also has a class 2 rating for loaders, similar to current certification requirements to operate various classes of power lift jack (here on earth Lol 😅), having been qualified to be crew on a heavy mineral shipping vessel. Like AZ drivers here, many require at least some training on loading equipment, manual or electric. 😊

    Carrie Henn who played Newt said that the Assistant Director wanted to film the in the water scene first thing the next day. So he had the water kept heated overnight. The next morning Newt said the water was too warm. So her and the "Alien" sat on the side dangling their feet in the water till it cooled down a bit. Carrie Henn gave up acting to become a Primary School Teacher. I believe she has recently been in another role though. Nice you picked up early on the Hicks/Ripley flirting but a pity you left ot the bit where Hicks gives Ripley the Tracker and says "It doesn't mean were engaged" Carrie and Sigourney remained close friends.

    If you do decide to follow this up with Alien³, then do yourself a favour and watch the Assembly Cut which adheres more closely to the original script as the director, David Fincher, originally intended to shoot it. Then if you so desire to compare it with the Theatrical Release you can watch that afterward. In fact, why not post both? Assembly Cut first, and then the Theatrical Release with comparative commentary linked to the Assembly Cut. And then you can follow that up with Alien Resurrection.

    "Aliens": Third Officer Ripley has been found and returned to civilization with a Xenomorph-size case of PTSD. What will The Weyland-Yutani Suits make of her blowing up the "Nostromo"? You're watching the Special Edition version, with backstory and drama to spare. Aww, you skipped the best "Burn!" line in the early part of the film. 8:03 I've read that the Power Loader was so convincing that construction companies contacted the studio to find out where they'd got them! 9:10 Hamsters are too small to serve as hosts. (Just like Jones the Cat?) 10:40 In 1986, I noticed that, unlike the female Marines, Ripley is able to "get close, quickly" to Rebecca. Then I bought the Special Edition Laserdisc(!), I saw that Ripley had been a parent, as I'd suspected. 13:00 Ripley is all about The Team. 18:58 The Manual of Arms. 23:10 They went out like Klingon warriors. 24:37 Good, you kept part of the "Dwayne/Ellen" exchange. 26:05 The egg chamber. 28:12 It's not over. 30:31 That's how you create an Action movie Badass character. Along with Linda Hmilton, Sigourney Weaver set the bar for Action actors. "Jennifer Lawrence?" Who is that?;) How about a "wet and wild" game, instead? Sign on with Alterra and explore an unexplored ocean planet in "Subnautica.";)
    One final note: Sigourney Weaver has said that "Aliens" was about guns; I thought it was about Family.

The third movie has a great cast, a literate script, a dire dilemma, truly frightening sequences, an absolutely iconic moment between the xenomorph and Ripley that is emblematic for the whole franchise, a terrific performance by Sigourney and the revelation that xenomorphs exhibit the physical characteristics of their hosts! Many people love the film and consider it a fitting capstone to the trilogy even if you do not. Make your opinion known but don't dissuade the reactor who has now been robbed of a potentially rewarding experience. 28:20 Black Queen takes White Bishop, check.
    29:57 White Queen take Black Queen, checkmate.
    30:39 Carrie Henn in her first and only film role. She went to become a teacher. Her real life brother Christopher played Newt’s brother.
    As for further sequels, there is indeed a third… the process of making it was riddled with problems - changes of writers and directors etc. - and it suffered for it. It’s pretty good despite that, but most people say don’t bother carrying on after Aliens.
    There is also a fourth, it’s a silly action flick that suffers from not taking itself seriously. Still, it’s not horrendous. I’m just surprised Sigourney Weaver agreed to it.
    There are also the “prequel” entries, Prometheus and Covenant. I consider them “ok” and “meh” respectively.
    And then there are the Alien vs Predator movies. The first is really good, the second… if you turn the brightness up you might see what’s going on… and then you’ll wonder why you bothered. The directors cut version of AvP2 is better than the theatrical release, but that’s not really saying much. It’s a good story, but the acting and the execution are sub-par at best.
    Speaking of Predator, that franchise has a similar trend - the first 2 are really good (the first is the best)… the third (Predators) is decent… the fourth (The Predator) belongs in the “I want my time and money back” pile, it’s insultingly bad… the fifth (Prey), which is a prequel set some 300 years prior to the first and focuses on a Comanche tribe, is a very welcome return to form.
    As for games, Alien: Isolation is terrifying!! It’s fantastic! I love it for being so faithful to the original Alien… I also hate it for being so faithful to the original Alien 😱 I won’t say anything about the story or the main character. I stopped playing it after I think 3 or 4 levels. I couldn’t go any further, I think I would’ve had heart attacks (yes, plural). My character has most certainly died and probably decomposed in the locker I hid in 😂
    The newest Alien game (Dark Descent) is really good too. It’s scary in a different way as you are not fully in control of the action, it’s a strategy game and you are in charge of a squad of marines, and with each encounter they live through, they suffer physically and mentally. It’s a whole different mechanic. Dealing with injuries is one thing, they heal, dealing with stress is another… not only does that not heal, it’s a gateway to many other mental health issues, all of which impact your team negatively… which is made worse as you’re against the clock too.
    If you do continue your journey into the Alien (and Predator) franchise, I hope these are insightful, and I wish you good luck if you do choose to play Isolation.

    I don't think that Sgt Apone and Cpl Hicks were surprised to see 'a woman' operating a loader (there are at least two female marines), however, we have already seen them underestimate Ripley. It's funny that you questioned if Ripley using the loader was so 'fascinating', when you used that exact word when YOU saw her using it.
    Hudson didn't miss Newt because he's a 'lousy shot', Hicks jerks Hudson's gun upwards because he realises that the 'target' is human.

    10:32 Actually, Drake was an excellent shot, not that one needs to be with the M56 smartgun -- its targeting computer continually boresights the weapon after each shot, allowing for extremely precise shotgrouping, even during movement, which says quite a bit since the M56 is a fully-automatic machine gun. The thing was that Hicks noticed Newt first and recognised that she was not a target, and he moved the smartgun out of the way by lifting it with his pulse rifle.
    12:49 That was the M41A ammo cooking off, that's why it blew up. And Gorman's order was to lay down suppressive fire with the M256 incinerators and fall back by squads to the APC. Too bad Apone didn't hear it over the smartgun fire.
    13:34 To put it in perspective, the strongest acid in existence is Hydrofluoroantimonic Acid, a superacid that doesn't even rate on the pH scale -- it's just too strong. You can't contain it in anything that isn't lined with Teflon, as that's the only thing it won't burn through. The acid blood from a Xenomorph (Species XX121, also known as _Linguafoeda Acheronsis_ ) is maybe ten to twenty times stronger. Drake was drenched in that shit. It's not even possible to imagine the pain he endured before he eventually died.
    19:31 There was kind of a hint of a relationship between Drake and Vasquez, if you noticed their interaction prior to deployment.
    21:21 Considering the strength of those facehuggers, it's not surprising that it took two fully trained Marines to unwrap that tail from Ripley's neck. What did surprise me was that itty bitty Newt was able to push a desk against a wall and a facehugger's tail and lean into it hard enough to keep that facehugger from freeing its tail and infecting her.
    22:50 That wasn't even the end for that asshole Burke. He lived, but not for much longer, and he wished every moment thereafter that he has simply been killed. Link to deleted footage to follow....
    Here it is -- ruclips.net/video/9AbWOL7muys/видео.html
    27:35 That's what makes the Queen so much more terrifying than her progeny -- she's their governing intelligence, and she can deduce and reason, but it all serves her overarching goal of propagating the hive and serving their nature. They are anathema to all other life.
    30:54 Carrie Henn. That was her only acting role. Now she's a third grade schoolteacher in one of the border states (Arizona, I think, but I could be wrong) and she couldn't be happier. She still loves interacting with her castmates from the film from time to time, especially Sigourney Weaver, and her students know she was Newt. I wonder if the kids ever tell her "Aye-firmative, Ms Newt"...

You see them coming and they do not care to be shoot down as bombastic music is going in backround. This is perfect movie and everybody should take a note how to cheat audience and rob it from experience yet audience still cheer up. Imagine alien from first movie is here. They are pick up one by one and could do nothing about it, hence it always reads the situation and is one step ahead. Also last stand out. Queen just pull Ridley out of suit and have late dinner then throw skeleton away. Tadaaaaa. Clap, clappy, clap… dark bleak and desperate. Mlem 😛
    *also i want to see alien absorb technology in it same like it do with organic life. That could be very cool to see. Hence alien is biomechanoid. 😊 one day, but not everyday 😊 maybe

    Alien 3 is relatively bad and you do not want to see it due to some very upsetting choices it makes. Alien 4 is ok more a more standard monster movie. Alien vs Predator is pretty good, I like AvP 2 more but it was too meanspirited for most other people. Promethius is an Alien Prequel basically without the Alien, and Alien: Covenant is contentious but I thought was good despite issues. I saw Alien when I was 3 and my first video game was Alien3 for the NES, so I've had the series in my life for a very long time. Alien: Isolation is a great game worth a try. Aliens: Fireteam gets kinda repetitive but its fun while it lasts

    Hey, Lipps! This is one of the best sequels ever made!
    Thankfully, you saw the superior SPECIAL EDITION version which has the Amanda Ripley scene, the functioning colony scene, Newt's family's discovery of the derelict ship scene, the automated gun scene, the Hudson speculation about queen ants scene and the name exchange scene. This is the version both James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver prefer.
    The future Ripley inhabits is implied to be a dystopic corporatocracy. The most pervasive and powerful corporate entity is the Weyland-Yutani Company, a 22nd-century version of the British East India Company of the 17th- to 19th-centuries. It is a multinational conglomerate involved in robotics, interstellar transport and terraforming with a stake in every colony world. The Company is the TRUE VILLAIN of the Alien universe. Ash and Burke were following a secret corporate mandate to obtain a xenomorph specimen in order to profit from research and weaponization.
    The colonists who venture beyond the compound like Newt's parents are prospectors who can lay a claim to any discovery they make. The Company would get a large percentage of the find but the colonist would own a piece. A valuable ore would mean a fortune! After Burke heard Ripley's story, he contacted the colony boss to dispatch someone to the coordinates Ripley had indicated in her report with no warning of danger. He must have done a little digging and found out about the Company Directive to investigate any possible sign of intelligent life and to bring back a specimen. He sent Newt's family straight to the derelict ship.
    Neither Hicks nor Apone were treating Ripley in a sexist manner when she offered to help prep. They regarded her as a civilian. They were both accustomed to females in their unit such as medic Dietrich, pilot Ferro and heavy-gunner Vasquez. When she demonstrates her proficiency with the loader, they were laughing good-naturedly at her bravado and their own underestimation of her abilities.
    Some trivia:
    The picture of Ripley's elderly daughter in the Special Edition is actually Sigourney Weaver's real-life mother!
    The late Al Matthews, who played Sgt. Apone, was a true-blue Marine who was the first black man to be promoted to Sergeant in the Corps during his service in Vietnam!
    The knife-trick scene was originally supposed to be performed by Lance Henriksen alone but he convinced director James Cameron to surprise Bill Paxton by involving him as they shot the scene! Paxton's wide-eyed terror is completely real!
    Fan favorite Vasquez is played by non-Hispanic Jenette Goldstein! She goes out like a warrior and enables Gorman to reclaim his honor.
    Ms. Goldstein now is the proprietress of a Los Angeles-based boutique that specializes in bespoke large-size bras! The motto of her company is, "At Jenette's, the alphabet begins with 'D'."!
    Bishop's programming to not harm humans or allow them to come to harm through inaction is ripped straight from Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics!
    Carrie Henn, who played Newt, never acted again but became a schoolteacher. She still maintains a correspondence relationship with Sigourney Weaver thirty-four years later.
    The late Bill Paxton, who has the distinction of being attacked on screen by an Alien, a Terminator and a Predator, will NEVER be forgotten for his reading of the line, "Why don't you put HER in charge?", referring to little Newt in her oversized helmet. Lol.
    "ALIEN 3: ASSEMBLY CUT" is a DIVISIVE film but it's an EXCELLENT entry in the series. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU SEE IT!!! Many will try to dissuade you but it is ESSENTIAL VIEWING! It's directed by David Fincher and features Charles Dance and Charles Dutton. It's brutal, fast-paced, has a solid cast, has some extraordinary scares, provides new insight into the creature, presents a fascinating dilemma and concludes the trilogy elegantly. I strongly encourage you NOT TO SKIP IT! Make sure you see the ASSEMBLY CUT (Special Edition with longer runtime). It is available on Redbox and right here on YT. "Alien Resurrection" is the optional one because it's a hot mess except for one cool aquatic sequence. The ambitious prequels, "Prometheus" and "Covenant", mark director Ridley Scott's return to the series but they are mostly good JUST for Michael Fassbender's performances. Scott demystifies the creature and unsatisfyingly attempts to address who the elephant-headed pilot of the derelict spacecraft was.

    The idea that the company wouldn't know about what happened to the crew of the Nostromo, seems odd to me because wasn't it the company that sent Ash with them for the purpose of investigating that planet and collecting any specimens to be returned to Earth? So they would already know what happened. Now this doesn't explain why when they colonized the planet with the "Shake n Bake" colony, to make the atmosphere livable, wouldn't they have also sent the colonist much earlier to investigate the signal and the alien ship? So unless the whole thing with the Nostromo was only known by the highest in the company and for some reason the whole incident was never told to anyone and it died with them. So there are some questions that need answering.

    • @ardvan
      @ardvan Год назад

      The answers are that In the end it's just a movie and the script writers make mistakes because they probably didn't think of a sequel at that time. It's all invented and doesn't exist therefore it doesn't have to make any sense at all. The best you can hope for by watching a movie is that the plot holes are small.

    • @jeremybr2020
      @jeremybr2020 Год назад

      @@ardvan Yes, we all are aware that it is a movie. But does that mean that we can't critique movies for realism? Obviously, the big movie makers go to great lengths attempting to make their movies as realistic as possible. They take huge steps in actually showing the "science" for things that don't even exist. But they sure do a good job making it sound as if it does. Don't get me wrong, I know exactly what your saying. I've said the same exact thing many times before in other conversations. But it's amusing to point out these little plot holes or inconsistencies. It keeps the movie makers on their toes, striving to keep those plot holes at a bare minimum. So in many respects, our critiquing, results in better movies being made.
