You could also use the Joker instead of a Blank, and then give it the "fun"-spin where you pretend that getting the Joker instead of their actual card is a perfectly valid outcome for a card trick, before you grundingly agree to get their card, since they insist.

For a guy that calls himself a card mechanic, that was the sloppiest false cut I've ever seen, from then on was pretty easy to understand the trick... you need to work on your technique before you start calling yourself a card mechanic
