  • In this Weekly Grocery Haul I’m trying a New Strategy to Beat Inflation. I’m also pulling out my Nesco American Harvest vacuum sealer to repack some of the meat I purchased. I’m breaking it down from family size to smaller portions. This grocery haul came from Kroger with a few things from Aldi.

    When I buy ground meat, I flash freeze it in measured, made up burgers. 1/2 cup of meat is approximately 1/4 pound. That way, I can grab however many I need for recipes, choosing 4 for one pound, 2 for 1/2 pound etc. They thaw out so easily when frozen in small amounts. Flash freeze on wax paper lined cookie sheet, and when frozen, place in freezer bags.

      @EverydayNesbitt 2 года назад

      @@homemakingwithdenise I've tried that but I don't know why it's so hard to stay the course. Right now, the plan is to write down every penny spent. I need to see exactly where the money is going. Now I am considering finding a produce co-op to start buying local fruits and veggies. When doing that, I will start physically going inside the grocery store (and stop with the drive up orders) once or twice a week.

    We’ve been having some meatless meals to save a little money. Mostly involves pasta (broccoli or spinach Alfredo) or eggs in like a veggie frittata. Kroger breakfast sausage is pretty good. We can get it for $2.79 this week. (Must have gone on sale). I freeze the patties right in the package and sometimes separate them in twos. I defrost (30% power) for about 30 seconds for 1-2 pieces before frying up. It makes good gravy for biscuits too, a little lean so I add a little butter or bacon fat. 😁 Thanks for sharing.

      Heather…I like that idea re: the breakfast sausage. When I go to the store next week, if the price is good I’ll get two more and separate as you suggest. I haven’t made sausage gravy in a while but this will be a good way to try it.

    We buy monthly it's just my husband and I. Our budget is 250 to 300 a month. By summer it will be half of that. We are planning to grow a huge vegetable garden. Im a Homemaker with no kids yet so I have the time. To take care of a garden. We also have 11 chickens we won't have to worry about eggs soon. The cost of bread is rising up so I have been making my own bagels and French bread. At the end of the harvest we will be preserving all of our food.

    I have a family if 4 (myself, the hubster and 2 sons 14&12) and when it comes to beef I started buying that Sam's Club 90% tube. Last time I bought it in mid February it was $35.82 and it yielded about 10-1lb packs. I break it up, weigh it, put it in freezer bags and stack in my freezer and the only time I buy more is if I run across an Aldi managers sale where it's half off...then I'll grab it up too. I do the same for chicken too. If you watch the dates on packages in the stores you can pretty much get managers specials alot. It's all about timing 😉

But there are also many vegetable and fruit stands. We can buy bok choy, field peas, carrots, ginger, bananas and the list goes on. Right now it is strawberry season. @@homemakingwithdenise I have found that if you go to country markets or butcher shops, the savings is very noticeable. I have many near me and I pass up Kroger and other large retailers for fresher, more economical options.

      First, tell me your name. I like to know who I am talking to. Next, how old is your child and where are you located. Do you work outside the home or are you a stay at home homemaker. What grocery stores are located in your area? Do you have your own transportation or do you take the bus? Let me know.

      @@homemakingwithdenise I live in Montreal, Canada. I have three different grocery stores near me, but they tend to have to same proteins on sale. I do have the same rules as you though, I only shop one day a week. I plan out every meal but having enough variety is hard.

    Dear me, Denise, look at all the meat in your shopping haul. A plant-based high fiber low protein diet, is healthiest for humans, and it is also a lot less costly than what you are buying.
