Accompanied by Keith Teepen on piano.
This is a performance from the IET (International Euphonium and Tuba Festival) at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia from June 20, 2019. Chris is playing this piece on the Eastman EBC836S CC 6/4 York-style contrabass tuba.
Chris is performing Franz Schubert's "Abendrote for Bass Baritone" on the contrabass tuba.
I wish I had been able to get a microphone closer-up, since he plays so deeply and the reverb in the hall swallows-up some of the precise playing that he does, but overall I think it turned out nice.
Chris Olka is currently the Principal Tubist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and is an Eastman artist. This tuba was not even his personal horn. It was driven out to the festival so that he would not have to travel with his own tuba.
I hope you enjoy this video!
Filmed on the Sony A9, A7iii, and A7Riii cameras, with various native Sony lenses.
Microphone used was the Sennheiser MKE 440 stereo shotgun video mic.

Sooo Glad Mr. Olka is playing in Cincinnati!!
I like very my much this Lied!
Alles scheint dem Dichter redend, Denn er hat den Sinn gefunden; Und das All ein einzig Chor, Manches Lied aus einem Munde.
Thank you for sharing!
Thank you! All of the credit to the musicians and the IET Festival! I was blessed to be there!
Bravíssimo!!!
I would love to perform this but I can’t find the sheet music for it
On IMSLP you can find the original Lied by Schubert D690: imslp.org/wiki/Abendr%C3%B6te%2C_D.690_(Schubert%2C_Franz)
