This song and this music video have been an important experience for me. Since the first time I watched it in maybe 2014, this song has helped me feel melancholy, ghostly sonder. It much reminds me of when I used to look at the Bay Area from a hill near my home. All these people living out their lives, and they are probably not even aware that I'm watching from my dark hill. I am the lonely ghost who haunts the people of the Bay Area from my dark hill. We, the audience, are the future ghosts who haunt these people from 1970-most of whom are over 70 years old or dead by now.
I don’t know why but I still keep coming back to video. The favourite part is the breakdown with the young lady rocking while playing piano. I don’t why but that part just sticks out to me and always did, it’s a mixture of the musics impression and the visual of the video they just have a strong aesthetic to them for me. I see and hear things differently then most and can experience a large reaction to something very simple yet it is so powerful to me.
