    Splendid video, all except for one thing -the music is too loud. But your narration and the shop and everything is top notch.

    I'm in the northwestern United States and just acquired an antique steam radiator nearly identical to the red one seen at 3:10 (only mine is painted white. Several sloppy layers of white) that I'd love to restore. Bought it to plumb the exhaust of my small diesel heater in my shop through so that I can scavenge some radiant heat from the exhaust. Sure wish I could have you guys do it without spending a fortune on freight! 🤣

    Gotta love the use of those cheater bars! I've used a twenty-footer to break loose a radiator bushing. Things are built like tanks!

    Nice video.
    I love my cast iron radiators.
    I'd just like to have the paint stripped off.
    100 years old and work great.

    Remember the winters with radiators in our house as a kid......would wake up un the AM listening to the ssshhh ssshh of the steam coming up.....Mom would have laid out our clothes on top of the big one in the dining room so they would be toasty....while we ate breakfast........they were painted silver with aluminum paint.....dad wouldn’t paint them any more than that ...telling us the paint would insulate the radiators......sometimes we melted our crayons while the radiators were hot......wipe them before Mom came looking for us........in school we had big long ones against the windows, with many coats of black paint..........now I work in a historic park we have radiators in the houses from the 1800s .....fancy dancy ones with scrolls and designs...with flat cast tops.......would be neat to get them back to their old glory......

    can you tell me when I have separated the runs of the radiator there , I disconnected the 4 rods and then ive used a wooden wedge to pry runs apart . Now that they are apart I have 2 collars I call them one on top and one on bottom these collars are not screwed in to bring pieces together they are compressed together when you reassemble the runs and then you re install the 4 rods and as you tighten them the runs come together and seal with the help of pipe dope ! Now my question to you is " how do I get the collars out of the radiator runs so I may clean them and then re insert them ? " and then I can reassemble the radiators .

    Does anyone what paint to use on steam radiators? Ecos paint is only good for water radiators. I used Rustoleum high heat spray can but I can’t reach the inside so I need bulk paint to use with the curved brushes. Any help appreciated. Thanks 🙏🏼

      hey, I'm just about to strip and paint my huge school radiators. from what I've read you're best bet is to get an actual spray machine and use cellulose or acrylic paint thinned for the sprayer. I've found a sprayer I just need to find the paint. I've also read that eggshell can also be used on them

  • @jmania29

    What kind of paint do you use?

    • @theloneviking9145
      @theloneviking9145 3 года назад

      I painted several of mine with regular spray paint. Contrary to popular belief you don’t need a high heat paint as the radiators only get up to 180°.
