SYSA is without a doubt the best. I did my training there and I am still in contact with some of my instructors and they are so willing to go out of their way to help you with any questions you have. Couldn’t recommend them any higher 👍
Whatsup Jared! I recently finished my training through SYSA and can honestly say they are a cut above the rest. Extremely informative and they go to the utmost extents to prepare you for this career path and go so far as to stay in contact even once you’ve found a job! I highly recommend them. Love the vids btw. Keep it up!
Technically all you need for a deckhand are basic safeties (PSSR, Elementary First Aid, Fire Prevention, Personal Survival techniques), valid passport and a valid medical ENG1, and you are qualified for Yacht Rating on the Minimum Safe Manning Certificate.
5 1/2 years down the line & one of the best reasons for a foreigner to do the course in Cape Town, is the exchange rate. In March of this year, I met a 20 year old instructor from SYSA at the Oceana Power Boat Club where you filmed this video. She told me that she'd already had over 200 students by then & a large percentage were from outside the country.
Hey, Jared! Another great video. Had a question for you. There is an academy in my country that provides a course for people who want to get a job as a super yacht crew . It's called the PYA (Professional Yachting Association) GUEST program? Have you ever heard about this association or this program? Is it any good?
I have been attending MTP in Fort Lauderdale and do recomend them for outside SA people, especially being in the center of the yachting hub. I also think Bluewater yachting in the area too
Hello, I'm new to your channel, so far you are making me still wanting to work on super yachts or cruise liners. I have 2 questions to ask: -What happens if you get ill on a super yacht as a crew? And in your opinion, what do you think of cruise liners and super yachts?
Hi Jared. Nice videos thank you. Do you know if there are places which deliver courses in English? For us South Africans who are all ready in Europe...
Hi I just watch your video I know it is 4 years ago but can I still use the Promo code in 2023? I am sending my daughter on the course and can need all the help I can get
Hey Jared, Loving your videos man, super insightful. I have a few questions: If you don't mind could you tell me what the total amount you spent from day 1 - starting your courses to landing your first job. What you spent on courses, visa, airfare, accommodation, food transport, etc. I'm thinking of heading to Antibes around May 2019 to dock walk, I found a common crew digs called "Debbie crew house". Its quite pricey around R48000!!! and thats if I stay there for 3 months. I'm from Johannesburg and working out what everything would cost me. so far its amounting to +- R120K including everything I'd love your insight on this. Any tips and pointers would be amazing Thanks Bro
Tymon Smith go to a crew house first, stay a week. Meet some people there, move to an apartment with a few of those people and save heaps of money. Crew houses are rip offs, but until you get to know people that you can potentially share with. It’s your best bet. Make sure you have the STCW, ENG1, powerboat level 2 and PWC if you can. That’s all. I managed back in 2014 with only R10k.
Tymon Smith got my first job in France, but did day work pretty much everywhere. Just get to know the routes and visit every marina everyday with cvs in hand. If you try hard enough for long enough, you’ll get something. Day work will keep you afloat in between. Also, pro tip. Don’t be like everyone else and spend every cent at the Hopstore.
@@sa3kes620 Thanks for the info and protip ;) are you still in the industry? How long did it take you to find a job? I'll be going over with a schengen and b1b2 visa so I'm limited in my time in France
Tymon Smith having both is a big advantage, most people are limited to Europe. My first permanent took a few months, but day work didn’t take too long. Yeah mate, still in the industry.
If someone was looking at purchasing a large yacht/super yacht, and wasn't looking to hire crew, just to pilot it themselves (since its a smaller country and I'd really only be sailing between it and the next country over) should I go to a training place like this or are there other places suited for someone like that
Jason Hunter did my first SuperyachtingSA course and did my pboatII and jetski with oceanstar academy but think ocean star is slack overexpensive and just shit school from my personal experience. Stick to and with Jason at superyachtingSA
@C Johnson and you are the perfect example of why people should stay at school..read what I said more carefully. As for the rest well everyone has the right to express themselves...if you don't like it tough luck.
Whatsup man. Guess my attempts at saying “hope this comes across as being informative more than an ad” didn’t help. Yes - fine, it’s an ad for a company that I believe in and wasn’t payed to say... “if you looking to be trained properly, this is the place”. Kind of like saying. “If you want a good drone, buy DJI”. Or “if you looking for someone’s comments that takes the worst parts of helpful videos and highlights them, read Smeggy’s”.
@@jaredwatney Wow are you really that far up your own arse?? You spent the entire video advertising for this company and I pointed it out simple.
