  • We visit Presidio La Bahia in Goliad to explore the grounds where men died fighting for Texas Independence from Mexico. You can even stay the night at La Bahia, just as long as you aren’t afraid of what goes bump in the night! It’s a place that every Texan needs to visit, and hear the battle cry of Texas in soft South Texas breeze - Remember Goliad!

My 7th grade Texas history class always portrayed my Spanish and Mexican heritage as the "enemy".....yet all sites considered historical, like this one, were originally settled, built, and managed by Spanish and Mexicans...actually....I see that Texas (south Texas' at least) way of life (ranching, horses, the concept of the cowboy, roping, etc) is 100% because of the Spanish/Mexican culture having been in place for about 200 years before colonists from the young USA were allowed by the Mexican government to enter into the Mexican territory of Texas....the rest, is history. Fyi....the idea of the "american cowboy" isn't necessarily true as it was a way of life adopted by the colonists from my Spanish/Mexican ancestors.....but my Texas history didn't mention any of this. Instead, it basically starts at the Alamo where my ancestors are portrayed as enemies and bad people (not all obviously) when in fact Texas has its origins in my Spanish and Mexican heritage much before 1836

that 7th grade teacher was too lazy to look at historical archives, instead was traumatized by disney the alamo tv series.
