*** About Living Traditions Homestead ***
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

Thanks for this tip, no more running out of water.
The water level in the pan prevents the pan fill hole in the bucket from taking in air. The air in the bucket creates a vacuum.
Thank you, I've learned so much. I'm a first time chicken lady 🤣
F R E E Z E R S ? ? ?
How many birds in each?
How many needed per cycle of birds?
How much is the electric bill increase per month?
How much isulation modificatio to improve thermal efficiency of the storage room have you done?
What was the cost of the insulation improvements?
Nice project!
Will be interested to keep up with your results over time!
Thanks For Sharing!!!
So much fun watching the chicks grow up and learn about the process of raising them!
The chicks are getting big and looking good! This is a manageable equipment list which is just what I needed. I've been taking notes but I won't start till next year. Thanks for the information and stay safe.
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying the series. - Kevin
Thanks for the tips on the feeders and waterers!
Thanks for the video!
I would use two layers of shadecloth with a piece of plastic between them instead of a blue tarp. The shadecloth won't deteriorate nearly as fast.
Awesome update on the chickens, can't believe how big they are for 3weeks old !! Great chicken tractors !! Great feed and water buckets !! Thanks for sharing
+50 shades of green Thanks for the continued encouragement!
Wow! You have a whole lot of great tricks up your sleeve Kevin. I'm right with you on the water feeder. I hove no clue either. All that matters is that it works. The fact that it probably costs less than 10 bucks to make is an added bonus. Thanks for the brilliant tips. I haven't seen your first two videos on the hens but I am heading to watch them now.
I like to keep things simple...I learned long ago that overthinking things just makes life harder!
Luv the door hinged at the bottom idea.. thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
It's hard to believe how much they grow in a week. Looking forward to next week's video.
That is so great with the water and feed pans, great stuff. Sue xx
Thanks for sharing this great video adventure, I'm enjoying watching and learning more about raising chickens. Thanks and have a great day.
Hi, Dayne here again have a look at Justin Rhodes Chicken coop, I'm looking at about 4 lots of homestead. Speak to him and you both may be able to help each other. O by the way i live in Kent England UK.
hey Kevin... which direction is that opening facing? Thanks for all the great information. Now to convince my husband lol
Great video Kevin. They are getting big. The only problem I would have is south the tractor doors. I can't hardly lift a bucket of water so to try straddling the gate and turning the bucket upside down, I would end up in side on the ground. Haha I'm not as young as you. Lol
They look awesome!
+Cindy Thomas yes, the buckets can get heavy when full. The nice thing about the door opening down is that you can actually stand on it and set the bucket on it. Then you can just kind of roll the bucket into the pan. I also know you can get 2.5 gallon buckets but you would just have to fill them more often.
My chickens are 3 weeks old and out on pasture. Currently have 50 in a 8x10 chicken tractor. How much should they be eating. I have a 3 foot feeder and I fill it at 6am and come out at 4 pm and it's empty. Is there a lbs per week they should be eating?
Hi. I just started watching your C
5:12 / 10:32
Raising Cornish Cross Chickens For Meat. Cant figure if you said you take the food away 12 hours at 5 days old or 3 weeks. please let me know when i should start the 12 hour schedule please.
In the tractors what prevents predators ?
Or do you have any predator issues?
Great video as always👍 and excellent advice😁
+Yankees Outdoor Adventures Thanks Yankee!
I want to process my cornish hens @ 3.5/4 weeks so that they are at 2.5 to 3lbs - personal sized meal. I have not found any blogs or videos addressing this, does one just process the same as you would at 8 weeks?
We are raising our first batch but plan on getting some more in the autumn. I live in the Kansas City area. How do I keep the dry in the chicken tractor (inspired by Salatin style but not exact) or do I need to be concerned about that? Spring and fall are definitely rainy seasons around here.
We built this tractor and will be putting our chickens in tomorrow. Can you tell us what kind of hinges you use on the door?
This is a great series! We got 25 birds because of it and take tons of notes! Thank you!
8:50 lol the chicken shidded XDDDDD
What size holes did you drill for the feeder and what are your thoughts about using plastic corrugated roofing
Can we raise cornish cross meat birds if we don't have pasture. We live in southern ca and our lot it total dirt.
What temperature are the 3 weekers tolerant to? Im in western Washington and put my cornish outside at 3.5 weeks and it hailed today and will be upper 30s tonight. There's a heat lamp but I think it'll only be warm right by the lamp and I'm worried they'll get cold with the loss of heat lost out the coop vents... I hope they're alive in the morning
How’d it go? I’m in Western WA too. Thinking about putting ours out tomorrow, they’ll be exactly three weeks.... but contemplating waiting until 4 weeks. Hmmm.
@@jamieroulstone163 with or without a heat lamp? The cornish variety are much more developed at this time stage than their egg laying cousins. It went well and so did the harvest! Now I have 5 layers (2 younger still inside) and out of my 9 total chickens haven't lost any to health/early death and I use non-medicated feed. I do supplement their diet with bugs and worms that I dig up for them on occasion as well as kitchen scraps
You'll be ok at this time of year at that age as long as you have a heat lamp they can get within a foot/ foot and a half of
Awesome videos! I am in sw Missouri and bout to order my first set of birds so I guess I am just a little nervous of predators. Do you have any problems with them digging under the tractor?
GOD BLESS.
Are you still adding the organic apple cider vinegar at this point to water?
What is the top or bottom when turn over of the waterer? Does it come off and on easy enough to fill again with water?
hey Kevin I am enjoying your videos , I got a question about feed . Cornish Cross only eat commercial feed or can they eat other foods as well ? like Earth Worms , Meal Worms , Maggots , Veggies , Grass ? thanx so keep up the good work on the Homestead !
Where do you get your rubber pans please?
Hey guys! i got a litle question: do you have fox where you are? Cause i've seen you got no chicken wire on the floor of your chicken tractors. Did you ever see a predator digging to go inside of the tractors?
Ps: sorry for the mistakes english is not my mother tongue.
Excellent information, now that your watering with 5 gal, do you add 5 spoons of apple cider?
What temperature is it at night when you put them out at 3 weeks old?
Could you please tell me where you found the large plastic pan for the waterer? I can't find anything like that ANYWHERE. The closest I could find was only 2" deep.
I wonder if a garden supply store might have what you need.
@@sharonmorton6734 Nope, looked 😊. I did finally find them on Amazon. Thanks, though!
Awesome
How much floor space is recommended for 50 chicks?
Do you still use this style of feeder and waterer ?
Could you let me know if you said 5 days or three weeks to start taking food away for 12 hours? Thank You!
He said starting "today" which is at 3 weeks. 0850 on the video. That's the reason I was watching it again also.
How cold can the temp be outside before they need heat in the tractor at 3 weeks old?
I’m wondering this too!
What kind of hinges on the door did you use?
I see those geese behind you, are they for meat? Do you need to contain them or they wont leave and predators ignore them?
We have actually gotten rid of the geese. They were too aggressive.
I'm just starting out with meat birds, and it looks like I'll have at least $10 in each bird. How in the world am I going to sell any when the store sells them at half that??
What are the dimensions of the tractor and what length do you cut the cattle panels too?
+Elle Mietitore They are 5 ft X 8 ft. You can see me building them here... ruclips.net/video/CmSlPJg6FSw/видео.html
+Elle Mietitore Yes the cattle panels are cut in half. Most cattle panels are 16 ft long to start with
Awesome I wanted to do something like this but couldn't figure out what to do for the ends and how long to cut the panels.
Can't you just feed in the morning, then once they eat it all, just leave the feeder empty?
Have u ever had a problem with givers getting the chicks?
How many birds per tractor?
Kevin stated 25 birds per tractor in the video.
@@backtobasicstipswithtomrib19 thanks.
I've never killed anything ,this is the issue I would have ,ive dressed out many animals but of course they were already dead
Why do you take away their food?
These birds don't stop eating. If their feed isn't given at 12 on and 12 off they will eat too much and get too heavy. Their legs give out and they can't walk. Kevin is making sure they live a good and humane life.
