- The cornish cross chicks are 1 week old and starting to get some of their wing feathers. In this video we show how they have already outgrown the small feeders that we started them with and talk about some of the problems that have occurred this week.

Commented 2.4.23 It is amazing to me how quickly they go from adorable little yellow puff balls to white chicken babies. I've been raising cornish cross for, well, this will be third year, my chicks ship 2.13.23. Yay.

Great video. I processed 5 barnyard crosses today and the plucking definitely took the longest. Great idea about the lights - being able to adjust the height. I have Brinsea Eco-glow brooders but they only fit a small number of birds under them. Just regarding pasty-butt. I also add polenta to their food for the first few weeks as well. I think it's the extra fibre/roughage that helps. Also apparently variation in temps can contribute to pasty-butt and mine got it this time 'round as it was very cold and the Eco-glow wasn't warming them enough. I added the polenta (ran out when they hatched), and put them in the lounge room near the fire. Thanks again for a great series. :)

I remember my grandfather had chicks. I did not know there was so much to it then, but all we wanted was to hold the tiny birdies. I love the videos that you and Sarah put out. I learn something from each one. Yall seem like you would be great neighbors.

Here's a pro tip.. Poop dissolver enzymes (like poop-off) are nontoxic and can be applied directly to the chick to get the poop off.

can not find the heat pans like you have so am cutting mineral tubs and using the bottom
to hold their water...have a 1 quart pan i got for a quarter at a yard sale for my feed scoop. LOL

I would start them after you know it's not going to freeze anymore but plan it so they are finished before it get hot and humid in the summer! This year we started our in the middle of march and they did great. I think you guys are a little colder than us though.
I got 4 Cornish chicks and I'm a newbie. I also have 6 ISA Browns and 16 Beilfenders. I lost 1 ISA Brown. Any advice?

Kevin , what do you think of raising dual purpose chickens ? We want to have some eggs but more meat birds. We'd rather stick to one breed to start with. Can you recommend a breed you have had experience with please.
What do you do with the dead chicks? is composting them okay?
have seen them eat bees and die! But only when small.
Can you make a vid on disposal of dead chicks/rabbits the sick/mystery death ones?
Honestly, there isn't really a videos worth of information. All we do is take them far back in the woods and let the wild animals eat them.
Oriana Spiderowl - dig a hole in the ground. Place the body inside the hole. Cover the body with soil (dirt, earth , whatever you call it). Move on with your life.

I'm going to ask a dumb question if you didn't process them do they lay eggs ? I know don't laugh lol. If they do could you let some of the chicks hatch them so you would not have to buy them all the time?
I am not 100% sure about if they would lay or not. Since these are a cross of several different chickens, I am almost positive even if they did lay eggs, they would not be fertile. - Kevin
