Fromm is severely underrated. He was way ahead if his time. Every point he makes is strikingly relevant. Thanks for posting this!!

Fromm is decades ahead of his time . Where are our Fromms now? Can anyone imagine programming like this on US television now? I fear we have indeed become absolutely insane.

We do have good philosophers these days, they just don't often get features on tv. Zizek and Byung Chul Han are fantastic.

No wonder Dr Erich Fromm has been dropped from modern psychology studies. He clearly and courageously wrote and spoke about the most the urgent and relevant subjects affecting us in the world today. His books should be text books at psychology and psychiatry departments everywhere.

Amazing that psychiatry has not advanced a modicum since the date of this interview. Psychiatry should perish from the earth for failure of its mission.

Does anyone know who is Dr Switzer, Dr Fromm refers to as being an example of a sane person?

Albert Schweitzer. He was a famous humanitarian, theologian, and physician. He lived from 1875-1965. He worked as a missionary doctor in Africa. He won the Nobel peace prize. I know him best by his book The Quest of the Historical Jesus. I read the book when I was a child. I basically remember it as the first account I ever read that questioned what anyone can know historically about Jesus and found that is precious little. He was still a believer, but he was one of the individuals at the time engaging in German historical biblical criticism. I remember that I was fascinated by the book. There was a time when everyone in America knew who Schweitzer was (probably everyone in the Western world). That's how famous he was.

His autobiography is "Out of My Life and Thought". Very readable. Along with all positive aspects, today might be viewed as seeking escape from European sexual and religious oppression, while internalized with the attitudes of the time: colonial paternalism and racism.
